Only just caught up with you all. I am really sad about Angela going even though I understand why. I honestly believe it wasn’t purposeful. However, she knows in her position the press are bothered enough to take photos of her going about day to day life ( in order to belittle her- mostly) then of course they will be looking at anything and everything. She should have had double belt and braces over this.
She could have stayed DL. (?)
Also who is leader of the house now? Lucy Powells statement was a bit odd somehow

Any horse tax @countrygirl99 ?

I'll see if I can take a photo tomorrow. Today was mostly shopping for horse and dog requisites (stud muffins a must😆).

visited Badminton and Blenheim a few times - love dressage day and the shopping! Are you marshalling on XC course? Fence judged quite a bit at BE events.

I don't know what my job will be but it's usually a XC crossing. I used to do XC collecting ring at Keysoe a lot. Was known for being bossy but efficient 😂.
Even told Piggy March off for not having her hat tagged.

Also had the email for PLP a bit confused (realise I have form for this) is David Lammy an interim DL until a vote or is he confirmed as DL?

BestIsWest · 05/09/2025 19:25

@dontcallmelen I was also confused until it was kindly explained to me on here.
Lammy is Deputy PM chosen by Starmer
Members vote for Deputy Leader.

Rayner held both positions but they could be held by two different people.

As AR had 3 roles and she resigned from them all now -

Lammy is confirmed deputy PM
Steve Reed is Housing minister
The ballot/email is for the deputy leader of the Labour Party

I think that's right - I'm also easily confused!

Efacsen · 05/09/2025 19:32

sorry x-post

dontcallmelen · 05/09/2025 19:42

Thank you both much clearer now💐

I bet I can guess who said that.

I’ve seen it more than once. Different posters. And on social media. Madness.

Deafnotdumb · 05/09/2025 19:46

The optics for Rayner were shit and that's why she resigned. Otherwise, its something that would be dragged out every time she made a statement.

It's double standards, misogynist and a press that that think Farage craps roses. I'm looking forward to him going down in a swirl of his own effluents.

With any luck, Rayner will be back. It was a cock-up with less than ideal judgement and if she were a male tory MP, I doubt it would have had more than a shrug.

I really hope that is what happens.

I am feeling so despondent and so sorry for Rayner.

We have to await the decision from the NEC. Which could be a few weeks from now. There's a conference to go to.

Not sure what you mean by this - given that the LP conference isn't until end Sept/ beginning Oct are you saying that the date for the ballot won't be announced until early October?

That's nearly a month away and seems a long time to me - or am I misunderstanding you?

It says in the email that the NEC will meet soon to discuss the matter and decide a date. Did you not get an email?

Thanks - so date will probably be announced before Oct. No email - not been a member for quite sometime

placemats · 06/09/2025 08:52

Only members can vote and you have to be a member for three months in order to qualify.

Spandauer · 06/09/2025 09:06

Labour Party Deputy Leader - The party’s national executive committee decide the timetable and procedure of the internal contest.
Under the current rules, candidates must receive a nomination to stand from 20% (80) of their fellow Labour MPs. This must be followed by a nomination from 5% of local Labour party branches, known as constituency Labour parties, as well as three affiliates of the party, at least two of which must be trade unions.
Once candidates have secured these nominations, a ballot is held in which Labour members and affiliates can vote. The ballot is preferential, and voters will mark in order of preference their favoured candidate to succeed Rayner.

MiniPantherOwner · 06/09/2025 09:13

I normally enjoy reading, but don't post. I'm curious what will happen if the deputy leader isn't David Lammy. I understand that deputy leader and deputy prime minister are separate roles, but would it look like a bit of a snub if Starmer didn't make the deputy leader his deputy prime minister since they are chosen by the party members?

I'm very disappointed that Angela Rayner had to go, although it was inevitable under the circumstances. I have a lot of respect for her.

placemats · 06/09/2025 09:39

Louise Haigh was suggested last night on Newsnight as one of the nominees.

Deputy leader requires a member vote. Lammy could well put his name forward for election.

DuncinToffee · 06/09/2025 09:42

All I know is that you have to be an MP and be nominated to be standing for election and then members vote.

Must be nominated by 20% of MPs, 5% of constituency groups and 3 affiliated bodies, 2 of which must be trade unions.
I very much want it to be a woman.

Me too

BIossomtoes · 06/09/2025 10:18

I think it has to be a woman but who? Louise Haigh would be a good shout but the mainstream media would resurrect the lost phone business and it would constantly distract. Maybe Lisa Nandy?

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2025 10:23

Ed Miliband would get my vote but they seem to want to tuck him away. He is highly principled, loads of integrity, intelligent and sincere.
