If you live in England and are not white are you considering leaving the country?

I'm really starting to worry about our future here now that anti immigration / nationalistic feelings are running so high. Our town is full of flags, reform is on the rise (and is pushing everyone, including the other parties further and further to the right) and every day there is news of some sort of anti immigration / anti asylum seekers / stop the boats protest. Dh has said for the first time ever that he doesn't feel safe anymore when out and about. I worry about the kids' future. They were born here and consider themselves British but what if a large proportion of the population doesn't? I feel it's just going to get worse.

I don't really want to leave. I have lived here for more than 20 years. I feel at home here. My kids are at home here. We have a massive mortgage and I don't really fancy starting all over again now that I'm in my mid forties. Also, not sure where we could go as the whole world seems to be becoming more right wing and intolerant and more importantly we obviously both would need to find new jobs first.

Is anyone else worried? Is anyone else considering emigrating? At what point would you say that we (as in anyone visibly not ethnic English or Anglo saxons or whatever, ie not white) need to get out?

The next time someone posts saying " If you celebrate Xmas, please give me Xmas gifts ideas" I am going to respond " Hey, I am so lucky I don't celebrate Xmas". Because this is an open forum where anybody can respond, even if the responses are plain stupid.

Your ridiculous comparison has absolutely no weight whatsoever. It's laughable.

Here's a better one :

"Short people are all horrible. I only want to hear from other people that have been bullied by short people "

Person who hasn't been bullied by short people but happens to be short "actually, I'm not sure short people are bullies. I'm sorry for your experience. But actually I think it's far more nuanced than that..."

Saying the UK is racist and replying as someone who lives in the UK- isn't the equivalent of commenting on Christmas when you don't celebrate.

Holluschickie · 30/08/2025 22:11

Ok.

I haven't said the UK is racist because I dont believe it is. But I am not fucking interested- as swearing is allowed- in hearing from white people saying " Ooh I have never experienced racism myself but let me talk about X and Y and Z and lecture you on why I will vote Reform anf love my Indian neighbour and...."
The thread has been completely derailed from the original question posed by the OP.

You'll find I have done absolutely NONE of those things (my posting history on this thread is still there to view )

Your assumptions are bigoted.

White opinions are not a monolith you know ?

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 30/08/2025 22:23

I’ve experienced racism but I wouldn’t move. I’ve been to many other countries and find the uk much more tolerant and accepting than anywhere else.

I still don’t like the flag stuff though. Makes me uneasy.

Yes, you have gone on and on about illegal immigration. Irrelevant because OP is not illegal. Derailing.

You've willfully misinterpreted my posts.

You don't get to bully me off here by virtue of my skin colour.

Holluschickie · 30/08/2025 22:38

Pointing out the derailing posts on this thread is not bullying. As OP appears to have gone silent.

There were posts by pp who have experienced actual racist attacks. Not me, mind you, as I am insulated by virtue of being in London. Buried completely under the avalanche of derailing.

SquishedMallow · 30/08/2025 22:39

SquishedMallow · 29/08/2025 22:41

That's awful.

I'm sorry you have experienced that abuse.
Those people behave like that because they are indeed racists.

People like that do not represent white people of the UK . They represent: racism.

Please be assured that people like me have concerns with mass illegal immigration. Colour of skin plays no part. (We have a big problem with alcoholism/homelessness/drug addiction and dealing ) From low skill and unemployed Eastern European migrants. The concern is not limited to skin colour. The frustration is the inability to talk openly about it and express this without being shut down.

Unfortunately the liberal left will often try to shut people like me down by calling "racist".

Please be assured that people like yourselves are not targeted by people that are concerned about illegal mass immigration. You're targeted by : racists. Pure and simple.

I'm sorry your Britishness was clearly not recognised by virtue of your skin colour. That's racists for you.

Most of us with concerns on here, want nor desire any part in racism.

I hope you report any future incidents to the police. (I know thats a difficult thing to do sometimes)

For @Holluschickie

To quash her accusations

SquishedMallow · 30/08/2025 22:40

SquishedMallow · 29/08/2025 09:58

That's racism.

You do realise that most people , yes most, that are concerned about illegal immigrants and the damage that is being caused to the economy and our way of life are not racist thugs.

For @Holluschickie

SquishedMallow · 30/08/2025 22:40

SquishedMallow · 29/08/2025 10:30

To be fair: it's not black and brown people that are the frustration here !

It's liberal lefties that cannot find a balance and come out with all the hyperbole of "we absolutely welcome asylum seekers. There is no problem. It's just the vile abhorrent white fat thick bigoted gammons that should be deported"

I don't support racism. I'm against it.
I support legal migration. In fact. I welcome it.
I don't support mass numbers of illegal immigrants in hotels under the guise of "asylum seeking" who are actually economic migrants.

I acknowledge growing trends of nefarious behaviour sexually from certain groups.
I acknowledge the many concerns from the right.

I disagree with violent protests. I also acknowledge how they've come about.

The liberal lefts view seems to be "because I'm not racist, I support everything to do with immigrants, both legal and illegal and will especially shout nasty words at anyone with any legitimate concerns over the boat people. There's no middle ground. To be non racist automatically means welcoming in illegal economic migrants"

Rather patronising to black and brown people, no ?

But they're the "correct" ones, so.....

For @Holluschickie

SquishedMallow · 30/08/2025 22:42

Need I go on ?

Or have I proved your assumptions and accusations wrong enough yet ?

You're posts towards me are bigoted and full of assumptions based on my skin colour. That's prejudiced as well as racist.

You have made the entire thread about you. Here is what I think about this and that. I acknowledge this and that. Not what the OP asked.

There are a million threads on asylum seekers to debate illegal immigration. No need to drag them into every post that a person of colour makes. But I will leave you to your soapbox lecturing.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 30/08/2025 22:49

But I’m still not sure why you want to post on this thread?

it’s asking for opinions from non white people who because of their experiences may feel unsafe.

Personally, I am a Muslim and I believe that the Qur'an is the divine, true word of God. I believe that it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad as the Final Testament through the Angel Jibrael and that it is authentic and free of error to this day.

However, all Hadith are infalliable and should be critiqued - they are not the word of God. Some are downright ridiculous and go against all historical evidence!

Unfortunately not all Muslims are as capable of critical thought, I don't believe you are typical. Most seem to believe the Hadiths without question

PollyPaintsFlowers · 01/09/2025 18:46

FatCyclist · 30/08/2025 12:45

White person here. Those of you who claim that people are "just concerned about mass immigration" and are not racist are being incredibly naive.

I am a migrant. Because I'm white and I've lived here long enough to no longer have a foreign accent, many people assume I'm British and whinge away about migrants. When I tell them I'm a migrant too, they immediately say "oh but we don't mean people like you!" People like what, exactly? The only difference between me and a "bad" migrant in many people's eyes is the colour of my skin. So please don't pretend that anti-migrant sentiment is not racist.

It's not about the colour of a person's skin for those who are concerned, for the racists yes, but not all those who are concerned. The vast majority couldn't care less about the colour of an immigrant's skin

It's not about race. It's about overloading an already crumbling system and importing cultures that resist assimilating and don't care about free speech, women's rights etc

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 01/09/2025 18:50

Like British expats in Spain assimilate

Do they force teachers to go into hiding? Murder their daughters for becoming too Spanish? etc etc

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 01/09/2025 19:04

The culture has changed. But I guess that’s ok?

You are quoting extreme examples. These exist in all sectors of society. Most people just want to make a good life for themselves and their families.

No they really don't, they are particular to the Muslim community. How British does Bradford (city not county) look? Or Oldham? Name me another community that murders their women for becoming too British. How well has a community assimilated when so many don't speak the language or still wear foreign style clothes?

Perhaps British people are happy with their culture and don't want it to change? Perhaps they don't want parts of their country looking like downtown Islamabad

This is what I don’t get. Genuinely.

Is anyone making you wear “foreign clothes” or speak another language?

I can’t imagine a world where I’m impacted by the way someone else dresses, or what they speak with people they know.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 01/09/2025 19:26

Do you know how long the waiting list is to learn English?
are you aware that the previous government slashed funding for English classes?

Maybe that has had an impact?

If you have experienced racism then of course you’ll congregate together.

I always remember a story I was told of an Asian family moving into north Liverpool. The residents proudly told me they intimidated the new residents enough to move. (“Oh but of course, you’re alright”)

This isn’t a simple issue. It’s multi faceted. A global problem. When countries like Pakistan and Turkey asked the international community for funds to help with their numbers of asylum seekers the response wasn’t positive.

But do you think some of the behaviour described is right, wear what you like but the controlling abuse is not good

also I think there is a fear that Islam will eventually take over the UK and our freedoms will be taken away.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 01/09/2025 19:40

Just aswell I was talking about poor assimilation instead of personal impact then
