Can we talk about Taylor Swift's engagement ring?

I love it!

Is it an elongated cushion cut?
Do I see a very delicate halo?
Thoughts on the chunky gold band?
Gold prongs holding the diamond in place? I would have expected platinum for a white diamond. Can still have yellow gold band. (Advice from Flik, royal jeweller on Tiktok)
And the size of the stone!
What sort of wedding band would go? Fitted? Or will a straight band sit flush?

A close up of the ring is showing small diamonds on the shoulders and a very delicate halo.

I can’t make the ring out. I can’t see the diamond, the angle of the picture is not great.

We need UHD resolution!

CactusFan · 26/08/2025 21:23

Looks like the prongs are gold and there is visible gold on the halo.

I’m fully convinced they’re the beards 🙊

We can dream... 😉

seven201 · 26/08/2025 21:24

I’ve not seen it until this thread and it’s just a tiny photo on my phone and I honestly thought it was lots of mini diamonds in the shape of a skull. I’ve zoomed in and it’s clearly just shadows! It wouldn’t be for me but I do love it. I love the gold band.

It’s not a vintage ring. See my pp re: the designer.

It may be a vintage stone but we don’t know.

Oh, is it not. Am just going by eye/looking at the ring from an image on Mumsnet. Am not examining it in person with a loupe. To my eye, the styling, the cut, the band, everything tbh is based on ring settings, not to mention diamond cuts from yesteryear. There's nothing modern about it. To my mind, this is a great thing as am not a fan of many of the current ring styles. I wonder if we're starting to see a shift back to more traditional designs.

As an aside, really doubt TS gives one shiny fuck what any of us think about her ring! 😂

CactusFan · 26/08/2025 21:24

In terms of "rectangular" e-rings, I liked Kylie Minogue's although perhaps a little too blingy.

It wouldn't be something I'd wear, but everyone is different.

AngryBird6122 · 26/08/2025 21:26

I wouldnt like it for me but I think it suits her

doublec · 26/08/2025 21:28

CactusFan · 26/08/2025 21:14

@doublec given your technical knowledge, can you give us your thoughts on the halo (?) and the colour of the prongs?

Technical knowledge is shaky at best these days thanks to chemo brain. In order to give proper thoughts, would far prefer to see the ring in person under a loupe. My eyesight, even with bifocals is terrible, another thing chemo wrecked 🤦🏻‍♀️

All I will say is that again, while not to my taste, I think the ring is surprisingly pretty. Tasteful even, which is hard to do with that many carats. Mostly though, it's different and very much TS. That's the most important thing with engagement rings. She's picked something to please herself, no-one else.

Who cares what a random stranger wears?

I agree and love the vintage vibe of it and for that to come back into fashion (though in my mind it never went out of fashion!).

Would love to see a better picture of it.

It does look vintage in its entirety but apparently not.

Do you think it’s a vintage stone? I thought it may be but not an expert.

rockstarshoes · 26/08/2025 21:40

How long before there’s a reasonable copy on the High Street do we think? 😀 Asking for a friend!

Thanks @doublec and best wishes for your health!

I'm guessing vintage, too. I hope it is - more ethical than supporting diamond mining. Not that I'd care, but TS has Big Ethics and I think I would, too, if I had her finances.

CactusFan · 26/08/2025 21:45

@rockstarshoes perhaps not long! I got my copy of Kate Middleton's wedding earrings at M&S within weeks! (And there were copies of her e-ring everywhere eg M&S, Next).

Not my style but it’s not my ring so who cares right? It’s lovely news, I will be honest and say I thought it was a showmance (I love Taylor Swift, it just felt too public for her) but seems I was wrong.

GarlicLitre · 26/08/2025 21:49

"Taylor Swift was proposed to with a stunning elongated antique cushion-cut diamond that is approximately eight carats, F color, and VS1 clarity," Estate Diamond Jewelry’s Benjamin Khordipour told wedding site Brides. "The ring was handcrafted in 18k yellow gold and the center diamond is set with needle point prongs that perfectly match the antique style. Smaller diamonds and hand-engravings adorn the shoulders of her setting."

"We estimate the price of her ring to be $550,000," Khordipour estimated to Brides.

It reminds me of distinctive famous jewels of the past - like Richard Burton’s gifts to Elizabeth Taylor for example. It’s fabulous.

Pedallleur · 26/08/2025 21:55

I am reminded of the story of Elizabeth Taylor who famously had the enormous diamond given to her by Richard Burton. The diamond was in a ring and Princess Margaret saw it and remarked she had never seen anything so vulgar. Taylor let her try it on and remarked it wasn't so vulgar now!!

Denim4ever · 26/08/2025 21:57

I love it, but think wedding ring to go with is tricky. I'd like it as a dress ring

DavAtTheCampaignForMoreBankHolidays · 26/08/2025 21:59

Im not generally a fan of flashy (big) diamond rings but there is something I really like about this one.

I think I read it was an old diamond which I took to mean vintage rather than old cut?

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 26/08/2025 22:01

I love it! And them!!

That’s a good point. I wonder if there’s space under it for a thin ring to sit.
