Why are people putting out flags?

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/08/2025 13:58

Yes in our road and someone painted red cross in the zebra crossing. No idea why, there are so many reasons.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 24/08/2025 13:59

Yes I drove down the m6 and there was loads but I don’t know why

Jitterbuggs · 24/08/2025 14:00

Nope.

SedentaryCat · 24/08/2025 14:00

Haven't seen any flags, but someone has painted the mini roundabouts. Not sure why.

Why are people putting out flags?

It started due to the anti- asylum hotels protest. I've seen flags out today- we don't even have any hotels locally! Just people jumping on the bandwagon. Mind you, we know have a Reform council...

Letthesunblaze · 24/08/2025 14:02

I spent 6 months in the USA and people put the American flag EVERYWHERE. National pride is a good thing

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/08/2025 14:02

No, none. In Devon

olderandnonthewiser · 24/08/2025 14:03

Why are people putting out flags?

A lot of people will say 'racism'.

And I think thats exactly why. We've been told for so long that being British is something tonbe ashamed of, it's not something to celebrate. You celebrate other cultures, not ours. It's somehow become a controversial thing to fly our own flag and people want to reclaim it as a positive thing.

Most every country I've ever visited flies it's own flag proudly and it's common to see the flag, but not here.

I think its also a rebellion, not against 'immigrants ' but against the Government, our leadership that has let us down, again and again, iver decades. It's a sign that people love their country. It shouldn't feel controversial to say that.

Nitgel · 24/08/2025 14:06

few here in neighbouring towns, look fecking awful,

Nitgel · 24/08/2025 14:09

Manx flags are everywhere on the Isle of Man as well.

(The red flag with the three legs.) 🇮🇲

It’s usually sport with England flags isn’t it? And the Union flags? Although a few will be making a political point about freedom of expression and the scale of the influx of asylum seekers, perhaps.

330ml · 24/08/2025 14:11

I haven’t noticed any. I am in Wales though.

NoRomeo · 24/08/2025 14:11

Came on here to ask exactly that question. Painted on all the mini roundabouts in my village and local town. On some of them they've been driven over whilst the paint is wet and it looks really terrible - almost like blood on the road.

I can't help but feel that the motives are questionable. Actual material flags I'm sort of OK with if done with genuine patriotism and without racist undertones. Vandalising stuff with paint isn't.

I agree that seeing the US flag is always seen as patriotic. Sadly, I get Confederate flag vibes with the George Cross is everywhere in this manner. If it were the Union Jack I'd think it was more about patriotism but I guess the kind of people that want to daub paint on mini roundabouts aren't going to be arsed to put the effort into doing a full UJ.

Think it is an absolute pain... we normally hang the flag out the window for big sporting events - World Cup, Olympics etc and the kids wanted to hang it out for the women's rugby.

But no... we won't be.

And then I think why not, and then I think because I'm scared to be lumped in with the racists, I don't want people to think I am... why the fuck should I be scared to fly my nation's flag in support of a sport team.

But I am.

Kneeslikethese · 24/08/2025 14:20

Yes both St George's Cross and the union flag (some upside down )
And the mini roundabouts and zebra crossings have developed badly spray painted red crosses.

Living in the US I would say the flag, these days, is often an indicator of a Trump supporter and it looks as though sadly the St George and Union flag are going a similar way.

SayItLikeItIsLetsKeepItReal · 24/08/2025 14:21
