Are there English flags out near you?

Left the North East this morning and saw a few, lots on the motorway bridges and our local fb page is full of them.

There are some England flags down a local dual carriageway to me, they are proper flags and look decent. However I went to visit family earlier in the week and there are lots of (poorly) painted mini roundabouts. They don’t look so good. I’d love to believe it’s for the sports or patriotism, but unfortunately it would appear they are part of the anti immigration protests.

ClassicalQueen · 27/08/2025 18:07

Oh neither of these are anywhere near council estates, in fact they are both sleepy “naice” areas.

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 27/08/2025 18:45

I went to Blackpool today and there were loads of union jacks rather than England flags. They must have gone up over the weekend as they weren’t there last week but I did see a couple walking 2 French (ironically) bulldogs and each (of the dogs) was wearing a single piece of England flag bunting as a sort of cape 😂🙈.

IllBeLookingAtTheMoon · 28/08/2025 08:19

The day I have feelings about the pattern on a passing bulldog's bandana is the day I give myself a bit of a mental slap tbh

How many people with Phds are flying these flags?

Are you naïve enough to believe that a ph.d is a sign of intelligence these days? Really?!!

It's somehow become a controversial thing to fly our own flag and people want to reclaim it as a positive thing.

In that case, their timing couldn't be worse! People will associate England's flag with the anti-migrant protests outside hotels, perpetuating the notion that it's flown mainly by the far-right.

You do realise that even some on the left are not happy with sex attacks by migrants on their underage girls? It's not the preserve of the right wing to think that such attacks are unnecessary and an abomination. You are right though it is those on the right that protest most about allowing immigrants that carry out 40% more sex attacks than native Brits into the country. It's odd how the left are so welcoming of those that do such attacks.

Yes, quite a few ( London suburb )

jaundicedoutlook · 28/08/2025 18:28

Not seen any around Tunbridge Wells or Sevenoaks, thank goodness.

Mollybarbaracom · 06/09/2025 08:13

I am appalled that these flags have been put up around my town, and lots of them too. Starmer stop these bullying thugs from ruining our area. I do not want to see this and am a proud, white woman who does not want to be associated with these uneducated crowds. Leave our flag alone!

Girasoli · 06/09/2025 08:49

The council removed the ones in town.
I've seen one or two England flags hanging out of windows and one house with Union jack bunting - it could also be rugby related though as there are lots of posters about.

whatohwhattodo · 06/09/2025 08:56

Loads went up near me, think the council have taken most down. There was also a big hoohaa as a local music / community venue invited people to bring all nations flags and put them up. Loads of people supported it but loads kicked off. BBC News has a story about it.

today will be interesting….there are two marches planned. One a stand up to rasicm one and the other a ‘family friendly patriotic march’ both due to end at said music / community venue……

MayaPinion · 06/09/2025 09:01

There’s just one on our street. Mind you, she’s also posting Tommy Robinson (or whatever his name is) crap on Facebook and getting increasingly unhinged.

exasperatedflatmate · 07/09/2025 15:20

An online ‘friend’ is posting increasing unhinged AI generated videos showing boats full of brown faces and a little girl armed with a knife and axe smiling on the beach to greet them. Same video also oddly features lots of men in bowler hats. I’m pushing 60, but even I can’t remember seeing bowler hatted gents on the streets. It’s like an AI fever dream and actually quite scary in its imagery,
designed to appeal quickly and simply. Awash with flags obvs because you know, patriotism.

Piggywaspushed · 07/09/2025 15:28

Given a girl was just arrested for attacking someone whilst armed with an axe and a machete, it seems quite a deliberate image too. Chilling.

Wasn't that girl defending herself from someone who followed her and repeatedly tried to touch her and her friend?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 07/09/2025 17:53

I’m in the north west and none on any houses or roundabouts or roads locally, I did travelled on the motorway last week though and there was one on pretty much every bridge.

BratOuttaHell · 07/09/2025 17:57

Nope.

London suburb. Diverse. Big Turkish, Persian, various Asian communities, a big Jewish community. I’ve got a Jewish family to my right, a Pakistani family to my left and British Indians opposite. We are Jamaican/Irish Londoners in my house.

I can’t see the George Cross appearing round here anytime before the World Cup, thank fuck.

No, and police have warned people not to spread misinformation such as what you are suggesting: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3r40gylxpwo

Yes on every lamppost

afianceeatlast · 07/09/2025 20:44

Loads around York

Arran2024 · 08/09/2025 09:58

We have none. I would be surprised to see one tbh. Even during the football it's not really a thing.

Cantstopthenoise · 08/09/2025 10:14

Yes, there is a Union Jack on a lamppost in my street and whenever I go out I see England flags or Union Jacks all over.
