If they’re removed they’ll be put in private rentals and then there will be no houses to rent. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Which will surely be worse.

Do you know what the French do? Give them a sleeping bag and a tent. Funny how they don't want to stay in France.

The ignorance on all these threads is shocking. I hope you never have to go through what they’ve been through. How lucky you are to have been born in one of the wealthiest countries on the planet.

Exactly, I can't begin to imagine having to up and leave with small kids, it was a struggle getting up and out to go into town/to the local shops some days with them! Can you imagine having to leave everything you know and love behind and trek hundreds, possibly thousands of miles with them and take perilous sea journeys as well?

What a surprise that those are your thoughts despite your OP being so vague.

This is wrong. Let op give her thoughts without any fear of judgement.

Excellent post 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

There was a protesting man being interviewed, he was supposedly hoping to protect people from Iraqi laws, he couldn’t name any Iraqi laws, he was also hoping to protect people from Muslimia, he also had concerns about asylum seekers using muslimia rayguns.

And they all seem to be young men

There is a hotel for asylum seekers in my town. There was protest outside it a few days ago. The protesters were posting on social media that they were doing it to protect our girls and women . Many police went there.

Later on the council (Conservative) put a post on social media that the hotel was housing mainly women and children and there were no single men.

I am aware though that there are more young men in total.

I don’t understand why I am being attacked . I asked for people’s views. I gave mine and I have said nothing negative about anyone’s else’s

You are being attacked because you are questioning the arrival of boatloads of people on the beaches. You are only allowed one pov on this on mumsnet. It is the snide snappy posts that prevent any discussion and send people who do have concerns and questions to the right wing parties.

Bambamhoohoo · 24/08/2025 11:38

“They’re living in luxury hotels while our veterans are on the street.”

”veterans” is an American term used by MAGA because ex military are highly respected in the us, and treated poorly by government, particularly when they’re not white. As a direct result of policy there is a significant population of jobless veterans.

in the uk reality is no one gives a thought for professional soldiers who chose to join the military as a job.

they also have no more reason than anyone else to be homeless, and plenty of support through the government and charitable sector.

This “flex” is Nearly as pathetic as the “why don’t they live in your house” mantra.

Because you posted a factually incorrect and inflammatory title with a completely content free OP.

You haven’t really given a coherent view, just some silly generalisations which you see every day on social media.

Piggywaspushed · 24/08/2025 11:39

My local mayor is supportive of taking steps to challenge our one local migrant hotel. Let's play SM Bingo!

It's in a disadvantaged, overlooked area where the middle class don't have to see it? Ermm, no. It's in one of the most affluent villages in the region.

It houses only young men? Again, no . Over 80% are women and children.

The hotel is luxurious . Whoops, no , was on its knees after a number of failed ventures to diversify. Hosted a few school proms but was increasingly careworn.

Still, let's not have facts get in the way of a rabble rousing opportunity.

bigyellowtractorface · 24/08/2025 11:39

Jesus Christ the hotel owners are absolutely raking it in. Those who are dumbing that down on this thread are doing no favours for credibility of the rest of their argument if you deny that fact. It’s publicly available information.

Hendil · 24/08/2025 11:39

It would probably be better if they were put in rented houses so that they are not all together in one place

ohdelay · 24/08/2025 11:40

I don't understand how we went from illegal migrants coming in and hiding from the authorities because of fear of deportation to hotels. This is what is mind blowing as entering illegally seems to get a welcome package and a duty of care we don't afford to our own citizens. It's showing off and playing bountiful to the world when we can't afford it.
Illegal migration is literally illegal and the focus should be processing and deportation asap except in very exceptional circumstances. If they put the effort and money they have used for accommodation and spendy money into detention centres and daily deportation flights the problem wouldn't be getting worse.

Catterbat · 24/08/2025 11:40

Roosch · 24/08/2025 11:29

Agree - it’s quite pathetic that these young men don’t stay home to sort out heir own country. They need to go back to their own country.

I am happy for legal migrants who come via proper channels.

Can you tell us a bit more about these ‘proper channels’ and how an asylum seeker not currently in the UK would go about claiming asylum here? Since you’re knowledgeable enough about this issue to be sharing your views publicly?

YesterdaysFuture · 24/08/2025 11:40

We seriously need a similar scheme to the Homes for Ukraine for all of these other refugees.

We see a lot of support for refugees with the counter protests, so there is definitely a lot of support from people to offer a room in their own home to house them.

ragdollyanna1974 · 24/08/2025 11:40

I live very closely to one of these hotels, in a small seaside town. It is one of the ones where there are protests being held outside. There are normally a few people with flags most of the time. Generally middle aged, shaven headed men, driving stupidly big, old. souped up cars.
The hotel currently houses families: women and children. The lovely children attend the local schools and are settled. We have had no trouble, they live quietly and everyone gets on. They are being packed up and relocated 150 miles away in order to accommodate a large number of young males.

I don’t get this at all.

Radisson hotels are expensive. Surely temporary housing can be found rurally that would stick less in the eye on people.

The problem is nobody wants them as a neighbour. You can have empathy with their struggles but they come from cultures where the misogynie is blatant and western women seen as prostitutes because we don't cover up. I have been on the receiving end from groups of migrants intimidating me and luckily someone intervened but I was very afraid and do not trust the majority of them, especially not in groups.

They shouldn’t be entitled to radison luxury.

the government were quick enough for provide those nightingale hospitals during covid. Why not do it now? Put them in them

Winter2020 · 24/08/2025 11:41

WhenYouSayNothingAtAll · 24/08/2025 11:11

Were there no homeless people here before asylum seekers got put in hotels? Where was your concern and sadness then?

I suppose we assumed that the country couldn't afford to put homeless into hotels and give them bed and board- that their keep depended on charity - the general public giving hats and gloves and a monthly donation to "Shelter" and the Salvation Army at Christmas. Now we know we can afford it - as long as they are not British.

But then people would complain that there's no houses available and that British citizens are being bumped down social housing lists, which would be fair and worse than things are now.
Plus many people don't want asylum seekers living amongst them.in the community anyway.

I think this is a good idea.

Spidey66 · 24/08/2025 11:41

I doubt they’re staying at the Ritz. At most it will be the likes of Travelodge. I don’t mind Travelodge for a couple of nights but wouldn’t like to live there for any length of time.

They may get basic meals but while their asylum claim is being processed, they get extremely small amounts of money. I’m not sure how much but don’t think it’s more than about £20, so barely enough for bus fares/phone calls and they’re not allowed to work.

Being an asylum seeker is no fun.

Liverpool2025 · 24/08/2025 11:41

And they all seem to be young men

I work with lovely girls who travelled here on their own.

It's rather as even males can be horrifically sexually assaulted en route and for females it happens to nearly all of them.

They are humans, the same as our sons and daughters.

They don't have great lives here or where they escape from.

Yes let's mock the working class. Ultimately the man was right and the country was plagued by r*pe gangs. You stood by and ignored him because he wasn't articulate. Do you feel better about yourself?
