This argument is complete bollocks. People should stop trotting it out. It makes them sound like simpletons.

It was an effective strategy for people from Ukraine.

I think it's a very effective argument because it makes even the wokest of woke people consider why they might be happy to share their home with a woman and child from Ukraine but not an unknown young man from (enter name of country that in all liklihood is not known for it's tolerance, peace or respect for women). You don't want to risk a young male asylum seeker in your home but are very happy to risk thousands of them in our country.

So you are saying there are no safeguards at all because UK intelligence are focused on right wingers (despite Islamic terrorists being the biggest recognised terrorist risk)?

It is also rather concerning that you state an instrument of the state is concerned with those who sit on the political right, not even far right. Democracy anyone?

You’re basic with that antagonistic tone
Enough whitabootery.
Currently right wingers such as Farage and Yakley lennon incite unrest . Right wingers are a clear and present threat, acknowledged by uk intelligence

This is true.
But telling them their concerns are unfounded won’t work. There are many people who wouldn’t dream of committing acts of violence who are also concerned about the implications of the current system.

We need effective leadership and fresh policies.

Political tribalism needs to end. Calling people stupid bigots or woke snowflakes isn’t helping. It’s fuelling.

You are incredibly naive if you think there is no need to protect the UK against agents from antagonistic regimes using the asylum system to enter the UK regardless of your whataboutery concerning UK political parties and elected MPs.

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 24/08/2025 22:49

Nah, you see antagonism only works if you can elicit a response
Still basic. still obv

I'd happily house an asylum seeker for a fee per month, totally not an issue.

Get in touch I'm sure they'll be delighted.

Not a fucking chance of me having a male of unknown history come to live with me and my kids but good luck!

And are the other 50% deported?

Who knows?

Winter2020 · 24/08/2025 23:48

4% of people arriving on small boats since 2018 have been returned - mostly to Albania.

We might as well have saved the money on all the case workers for a welcome party for all the good they do. The system is a complete waste of time and money.

I have been in multiple hotels that accommodate refugees and asylum seekers
They are basic. Very. Small room. No cooking faculties. Some have Small microwaves bolted to wall.

Regards finances Asylum seeker get £49 pw on a prepaid ASPEN card if in self catered accommodation eg no meal provision . £49 for all your food, toiletries, travel, clothing, phone

Catered accommodation eg If meals are provided they get £9.4 pw on ASPEN card for all your ,travel, clothing, phone. The Home Office provides asylum seekers with:

  • accommodation eg hostel, b&b ,hotel
  • 3 meals a day
  • allowance of £9.40 per week
  • change of bed linen once per week
  • laundry once per week

To be clear it’s basic, no frills

If you are a single British adult under 25 out of work you'll be entitled to £79 each week Universal Credit but have to pay your utility bills, (water/electric/heating) and pay for your own laundry so I don't think it sounds any worse in comparison. You should be able to claim housing benefit if you rent but if it costs more than your housing allowance you'll have to pay the extra out of your £79 quid.

Mental on here innit?

Anyway, I think the GoldenGirl123 who started this has gone to bed. Sort of lit the touch paper and run off.

Please say they'll be a second thread - I want to know more about the soft pallet and dentist burning.

Get it right, if you’re going to get all ain’t much difference.
UC rate:single and under 25 £316.98 pm single and 25 or over £400.14 pm
considerably less than £49 flat rate paid to asylum seeker

Get it right. Using your figures;

317 times twelve (and then divided by 52 to give a weekly equivalent) is 73.

Seventy three pounds is more than forty nine pounds.

The amount paid to over 25s (£92 - I've rounded it to the nearest pound to make the sums easier) is even more.

Yes. The clue was pm right there in the text. BOOM
Even if you take off your shoes & socks off AND add number of YakleyLennon convictions and/or name changes😉 you’re still not going to make the basic amounts an asylum seeker gets more than basic UC amount

No- one said an asylum seeker gets more than someone on universal credit.

I simply said for the extra £30 a week a single under 25 year old would get they would need to pay their utility bills and do their own washing so there probably isn't much difference in it.

pointythings · 24/08/2025 20:59

It's 'palate', and your obsession with it is concerning.

I take a lot of pride in my teeth and appearance. If I look rough people won't hire me and I won't be able to pay my taxes and into the economy. Most immigrants I meet have the same principle they look after their appearance and teeth. They don't touch ultra processed foods that is sold to us in this country. You call it an obsession I and many other normal people call it pride.

Do they get money for cigarettes? I see a fair amount smoking.

No, you are NOT entitled to benefit if you are seeking asylum.

Having £49 a week with all bills covered means you’re much better off (financially) than someone on £79 per week who has to pay for their own food, bills etc.

The way forward in this situation is NOT pretending we don’t understand simple maths or statistics per capita or arguing about legal lexis.

Come on. Let’s stop deflecting and let’s have an honest conversation about this.

My HONEST opinion of this is that they’re BOTH pitiful amounts. They result in male asylum seekers seeking out illegal means of earning extra money. Yet another reason we don’t need more undocumented men here. We need a better deterrent for adult male asylum seekers entering the country while making entrance much easier for women and children.

BlankBlankBlank14 · 25/08/2025 07:10

Terrribletwos · 25/08/2025 05:54

Do they get money for cigarettes? I see a fair amount smoking.

You’re the sort of person that buys a homeless person a sandwich of your choice, because then yYou can be virtuous and say “I bought them something healthy “ and then expect them to stop drinking/smoking/ taking drugs because you got them a fucking tuna wrap. It takes a lot more than that to get people to make good lifestyle choices, funny enough.

They don’t get money for cigarettes, they get money to live on, if their addictions make them spend more on cigarettes than food then they have less food.

I volunteer for a homeless charity that makes hot meals and the amount of people that are shocked that we offer a choice of meals, like meat, vege and coeliac tolerant choices and various things each week is amazing. They’re like well surely they can just give homeless people whatever and they should be grateful. Like being homeless stops you having choice of food you do, don’t like, stops you being gluten intolerant.

Do you actually thing they designate money they have to spend on cigarettes? No, you don’t, you’re just pushing your view it’s a waste of money. Which will be followed by “I’d rather buy falafel wraps with broccoli and carrot battons than cigarettes’, well off you go and do that, that’s your very cosy life but not the life of some.

Imagine someone looking through your shopping trolley and telling you have you can do better.

Terrribletwos · 25/08/2025 07:25

I smoke myself so am not bothered if they smoke. I was just curious as cigarettes are expensive.

“I’m just curious”’

Yeah they give them money designated purely for cigarettes! You’re right they are expensive, so they ask all the smokers to go to line A for extra money.

I just thought your post was goady, of course it’s not, silly me!

But you’re actually thinking it’s true, because they’re expensive, that’s what they do?

Imagine being so stupid to think that!

BTW, if responding to a post, it’s worth quoting it, otherwise I may have missed this and not been able to acknowledge your thoughts.
