I did my research I got on a bus and went to college that's called ambition I wanted to work. I don't think I am rude I am being diplomatic and don't I don't suffer fools gladly.

Or people with no teeth, who eat processed food, don't work and are overweight apparently......

Under International law it’s classed as legal, but not under UK law….

That was just because the Tories thought they could circumvent the 1951 convention. Their law would not have stood up in an international court - and they knew it. So in absolutely practical terms, UK law is irrelevant here, because the UK is a signatory to the 1951 Convention. It's not hard to understand.

TottyMaude · 24/08/2025 18:21

HerLivingontheHill · 24/08/2025 14:16

They have arrived via France.

There is no threat to them in France.

Asylum means you take refuge in the first country you arrive in.

That's not the UK.

If the law was that all asylum seekers in the world had to claim it in the first country they came to (it isn't), then the UK wouldn't take a single one because we're an island. And then we would be the world's pariah, you wouldn't be able to go on holiday anywhere other than North Korea without having cabbages thrown at you and your children dunked in the pool. I love going on holiday - I don't want the locals to think I'm a massive twat when I get there.

PS: this is a simple explanation of 'International relations'. We have historically legislated to treat people well when they come here, for whatever reason, to ensure we are treated well abroad. It is how the world is intended to work.

I can’t read the Telegraph @Thedevilhasfinallycaughtupwithhim

But you and I are talking about two different things. I said that a majority of sexual assaults are carried out by Brits. That’s is true. You are talking about proportionality, which isn’t what was talking about. I cannot see your statistics but I believe that we are both correct.

So you genuinely believe that no British men commit rapes and sexual assaults? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

The NHS is not fit for purpose because people are walking around with a soft pallet. It's migrants who are working in our NHS that can help our people with their soft pallet.

oh lordy, that lot and the others that they have inspired who post their semi-articulate nonsense on YouTube. My city has a couple of locals who seem to spend most of their time (guess they don't have paid employment!) in the city centre filming people with obvious mental health problems, asking passersby leading and racist questions. If they don't engage they are berated as being "woke" and not caring about Our women and girls" . The comments all hail them as "true patriots" who will save us all. The lack of nuanced and critical thinking is concerning

They are infuriating with their utter bullshit however Dje has started knocking about with someone that sneaks into the hotels which are full of families dispelling the myth that they are full of men.

She's laughing her head off at your posts. She said nothing changes in this country. Back in the 60's when my partner's mother was a nurse and white people told her to keep her black hands off them. She was there to treat and help them get better. Back then there was a lot of hate being stirred in this country and people were fearing for their lives. All you want to do is stir hatred I feel sorry for you.

Aye okay, I'll tell my boss tonight when I get into work that incident we dealt with last month was completely made up cause a nurse who works in the hospital and has no idea what happens in the front line has said it didn't happen. I don't want to stir hate at all, that's not who I am as a person and tbh I don't have a strong feeling either way regarding them, however you're so fixated on proving your opinion is right and everyone else who thinks differently or even doesn't a line with your thoughts process is racist. Im just telling the truth. I'm just saying I have to deal with on a daily basis when it comes to this subject. You not believing it happens makes no odds to me. Unfortunately when I go in at 12 tonight for my back shift I'll be dealing with these calls, whether you believe these occur or not.

Would you be happy for these tents to be pitched on your street??

No, absolutely not. They should be contained in an area away from residential areas.

TheYanster · 24/08/2025 18:25

Livelovebehappy · 24/08/2025 17:27

The NHS wouldn’t be ‘decimated’ if the government had voted in Starmer’s proposed review of the Welfare/disability system. We need to get people living in this country back to work. There are far too many not wanting to work. Why should we have to depend on immigrants when we have enough people already here to do the work? It’s madness.

You're not saying anything. We shouldn't be dependent on migrant workers, but we are. That's just the reality.

There are currently 32,000 asylum seekers in the UK awaiting decision on their status. We are a nation of 69 million. This is what it's being used by the likes of Farage to terrify a population of 69 million! This is all it takes to gaslight a nation

poetryandwine · 24/08/2025 18:26

WilfredsPies · 24/08/2025 16:09

You’re wrong. Entering the UK illegally is a prosecutable offence under the immigration laws. It was an offence way before the last Act was passed. It has been an offence, to my knowledge, since at least the 70s, and possibly further back than that.

Us having signed up to the Convention doesn’t mean that it’s no longer an offence. The Convention simply means that we recognise that there’s no lawful way of claiming asylum in the UK so we don’t prosecute anyone for it. Instead, we deal with it administratively.

It is stronger than this. International law trumps national law. To prosecute people for entering the UK without permission for the purpose of claiming asylum would violate the 1951 Treaty signed by the British government.

Others who enter without permission are a different matter, of course.

Your claim is disingenuous.

Most crimes are committed by British people because British people make up 91% of the population.

This is not a true reflection of the proclivity or propensity for crime though. When we specifically talk about sex crimes, 23 % are committed by non-British people. Which means they are over twice as likely to commit sex crimes.

Obviously, we are talking about the male non-British people. Female non-British people are less likely to commit any crime than British females.

Which is another reason we should not be allowing undocumented men to walk our streets freely.

We should prioritise women and children asylum and start making real deterrents for males attempting it. The women and children stuck in refugee camps are being raped by these men. These men make their camps unsafe, yet use the danger of the camps as a reason to come here and leave the women and children to rot.

It’s beyond ridiculous.

My family works in our capital city of London talk to them. That's what they told me. I think all areas of our country are suffering with soft pallet and it's only the migrants who work in the NHS from top to bottom who will help to install dentures in their mouth.

CunningLinguist2 · 24/08/2025 18:05

And you’ve done a poll, interviewed them all and that’s their profile??? 🙄🙄🙄

Jesus. Obviously not. I can understand simple numbers, though. Of course, there may be a few doctors, nurses and engineers among the thousands of people coming on small boats but let's be honest, if you have actual skills to contribute, why would you be ripping up your passport and giving your money to criminal gangs. Most likely you'll have better options.

Perhaps the way forward is to place these immigrants/seekers in the homes of those happy to support them. I mean, more than most on here would be happy to have one in their homes surely?

This argument is complete bollocks. People should stop trotting it out. It makes them sound like simpletons.

moanamovie · 24/08/2025 18:33

They are not all young men. My family member backs onto a hotel that is being used - it is 80% women and children, and she says the noise and rowdiness since they’ve moved in has been so much less than when it was used as a hotel!! She has no bother, they are absolutely no trouble. The only time it gets loud is when people stand outside shouting and protesting and pulling local police forces out to them because they are annoyed and causing trouble…. It’s the protestors who are the problem!

poetryandwine · 24/08/2025 18:33

wuminzo · 24/08/2025 14:22

Apply for a visa or use a UN regulated program for refugees.

Otherwise they would appear to be economic migrants using asylum as a cover. Same everywhere.

The UN itself acknowledges that they can help only a very small fraction of deserving asylum seekers.

How do you propose that those lacking the skilled worker jobs needed by the UK acquire a residence visa? Or is that the idea?

How can a human possibly be illegal? That’s my thought.

That's not a thought. That's a slogan.

When you actually think about it, the term "illegal migrant" refers to the method of immigration. But then when you think about it some more, you realise, well yes, of course a person can be illegal, if they are somewhere it's not legal for them to be.

Except my point was that two thirds are committed by Brits. Which is correct. Yes I get your points about proportionality, but there are still two thirds being committed by Brits. That was my point and it’s correct.

I agree about the women. There are lots of women fleeing horrific sexual abuse that end up being further abused. But whilst this is all very interesting, it doesn’t change what I fucking said which is correct. You’re picking at the wrong damned points. The people who witter on about how they should leave purely based on sexual assault don’t actually care about the victims. It’s just an excuse. If they did care about victims then there would be a lot more to the discussion of sexual assault and its roots, including the serious rise I sexual assault in our young men. Young British men. And they wouldn’t be objecting to women fleeing countries where rape is common place either. But they do neither, instead they just use the one line as a reason, like the post I responded to in the first place.
So bugger off and write your own post, love.

Yes I really do fund raising for various charities. On my own!

Goldengirl isn’t because I think I am golden but because I am in my golden years

I made a mistake saying illegal immigranrs instead of asylum seekers. I do apologise

I have no problem with the Ukrainian women & children coming over as they have come over legally. Nothing to do with race or religion

You need to research how people claim asylum.

To claim asylum, you have to enter the country first. Therefore, noone claiming asylum is here illegally, regardless of how they got here.

I think a bigger issue is why the UK opened its borders to Ukraine but not citizens from any other country fleeing war. You have no issue with Ukrainians but did you not question why the government couldn't pay for people to house the homeless for them or prioritise the homeless?

There are a lot of White British UK citizens living in hotels, as they are also used as temporary accommodation. There is plenty of help for those that are homeless (its not great but you dont need to be on the streets), but as many PP have mentioned, the issue is those on the streets usually have addictions that prevent them getting housing, or they have been deemed to have made themselves intentionally homeless.

Why is it bollocks?
If people want them, why shouldn't they live in THEIR homes?
Reasonable suggestion, I would have thought.
