Payment for evening dog sitting - how much?

Friend's DC (18) is looking after our dog while we all go out. DDog can cope with about 3 hours max on his own, but we'll probably be gone for about 5 hours. He'll be fed and walked before we go, but friend's DC will be in the house and give him a quick walk to do his business before his bedtime. Friend's DC will be provided with the usual snacks, wifi password, access to Netflix etc etc. How much would you pay them?

Same as if babysitting

My dog walker charges £16 an hour

£20? But I don’t know anything about this, I only know a couple of people with dogs and both will leave the dog for an evening.
one of them will ask her mum to come round for anything over about 4 hours but obviously they don’t pay her mum!

If you treasure your dog the way I treasure ours, you’ll pay that. You get what you pay for.

If your dog would be fine for 3 hours could you get her to go in at the 3 hour mark and take the dog for a 1 hour walk? Then dog should be fine until you get home.

I think she's quite looking forward to an evening out of her own house and earning a bit of pocket money, and I'm quite happy to pay her that pocket money.

I think you should ask the person doing the dog sitting. You can’t guess what they have in mind. It’s unfair to not work this out before they arrive.

Minimum wage for an 18 year old is £10ph. £10ph would be very reasonable but I think there is scope to offer less. I know it’s easy work but they will still be working.

You can’t give them a discounted rate because of Netflix and snacks 😅.

Our dog walker charges £15/hour when she pet sits for us occasionally and I’m happy to pay it, because I love my dogs and value her time. If you already know what you’re willing to pay then don’t waste people’s time asking for their experiences/opinions and then acting like they’re ridiculous.
