Payment for evening dog sitting - how much?

Friend's DC (18) is looking after our dog while we all go out. DDog can cope with about 3 hours max on his own, but we'll probably be gone for about 5 hours. He'll be fed and walked before we go, but friend's DC will be in the house and give him a quick walk to do his business before his bedtime. Friend's DC will be provided with the usual snacks, wifi password, access to Netflix etc etc. How much would you pay them?

I have only used once and dropped around 3pm and then picked up midday.

I pay a babysitter per hour much more than cost of a child minder per hour

I pay Dog walker £16, completely average in Kent, for an hour’s walk. She picks up, walks, and drops back.

I didn’t come to mumsnet and ask what would be ok to pay and then express horror when some suggested what they have paid

If she comes to my house to sit for an evening … then it’s around same cost per hour as dog walk.

So if she comes to stay in your house she charges £16 an hour, £384 for 24 hours?! But if the dog goes to hers she charges £55 for the same period?!

I’d give £25 and that’s fair , he really is only doing the same as he’d be doing in his own home , relaxing , gaming , TV and food .

My rate was much fairer.

this is very normal for a dog walker dog sitter to charge more than boarding

Your dog walker is not a teen earning a bit of pocket money. Your dog walker is self employed paying tax, insurance, NI, petrol and so on. At least, she should be.

If you want to pay a teen between £64-80 for a few hours to watch your TV while your dog sleeps then go right ahead - doesn't bother me in the slightest.

And the idea that it would somehow be a treat for the 18 year old to watch Netflix in peace with snacks is a bit silly

that is basically what most 18 year olds do in the family home in the evening…. A lot 😆

And meanwhile, when they're out of the house they're doing that and getting paid - in this case, an amount they were happy with that was in line with overnight boarding and what others on here also said they'd pay.
