Millie Bobbie Brown adopts

Millie Bobbie Brown and her husband have adopted a baby. It’s so refreshing to hear of a celebrity adopting rather than using a surrogate. Especially as we heard of another celeb using surrogacy yet again this week.

I did wonder how and where they’ve been approved for this. They are both so young. I like her a lot but I’m not sure I really think this should have happened so soon. Adopting a child and all the possible implications of that is such a huge thing.

naomisno1fan · 21/08/2025 22:19

Well if she’s infertile it’s slightly better than surrogacy but still not wise.

I was looking for a thread on this. I mean, what the hell? I don't really believe it. Is this a child made to order? What normal social workers in their right minds would hand over a child in foster care to such a young couple in the spotlight? I just don't believe the authenticity of this. I know adoption personally from many sides and this arrangement is batshit and not likely to be in the best interests of the child.

I do have to agree and whilst the sentiment is great they want to adopt, they are barely out their own childhood and that’s not being patronising. I realise kids in the spotlight can grow up faster but that often has its own challenges that materialise a little later down the line. I’m sure they’re both intelligent enough and will no doubt have masses of practical support but how can they have developed much emotional intelligence yet?! Let alone parent in such an exposed and judgmental gossipy environment.

I really hope there is no alterior motive and they don’t open up a baby line or something, I dunno just seems strange decision making re a child’s welfare.

How much did they pay?

Branleuse · 21/08/2025 22:27

At 21. Wow

It smacks of socially acceptable surrogacy. They've only been married 5 minutes .

This.

I admit that I have limited knowledge of adoption in the US but it never entered my head that money would change hands. If that's the case then it's absolutely surrogacy but under a name they find acceptable to their conscience.

No that child has a family. The family could have been supported by other families, not their child taken away

Do your realise that an adopted person gets a new birth certificate as well. How fucked is that

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 21/08/2025 22:32

I'd also like to know what chances the average 21 year old has of adopting a baby in the US. Something tells me their chances are way less.

SaltAirAndTheRust · 21/08/2025 22:32

This is so sad. She’s 21. She has been pushed into being a breadwinner for her family at a young age, and now she’s married and a mother. Such a shame.

PeonyPatch · 21/08/2025 22:33

This feels too young for me.

Ellmau · 21/08/2025 22:33

Why? It's because the adoption is meant to make the child legally in the same position they would be if they were the adoptive parents' biological child.

It seems insane to me for 21- and 23-year-olds who’ve been married a year to be approved as adoptive parents. It’s nothing against them personally, but it’s incredibly young to be entrusted with the raising of a child who will, almost by definition, have significantly higher emotional needs (and quite possibly medical needs) than a baby they conceived themselves.

Yes, I wonder if its a private adoption, ie. someone they know who signed the papers quickly. Lets hope its all above board and in the best interest of the child.

Hunny they just pay for a baby in the us. Absolutely no concern is given to the child or mother’s welfare. You pay a lot of money and it all goes on the agency.

This. ^ They're far too young, and should never have been allowed. Money talks eh?!

Because it’s a bloody legal document and the mother gave birth to that child, not the person with the checkbook, which also includes two males. You can have parental rights without being on THE BIRTH certificate. The adopted parents dudnt give birth to the child.

OchreCrab · 21/08/2025 22:38

So a 21 year old can get pregnant but can’t buy a buy.

right ok

Yeah, I'm not sure I would describe a 21 year old celebrity adopting as refreshing.......

Nor me. It's bloody weird. I can't imagine any 21 year old non-celebrity being allowed to adopt a child.

TheFateNdoftheWedge · 21/08/2025 22:50

Very nobel but agree 21 Very very young to adopt

reetsreet · 21/08/2025 22:50

it’s an incredibly young age to become a parent. I wonder if she’s processing unresolved childhood trauma? It’s so different adopting in the US. Here, adopted children invariably come with wounds of neglect; abuse, attachment disorder. In America, where abortion is so taboo, you can adopt a day old baby from a nice family where the teenage daughter got pregnant by mistake and obviously wouldn’t abort because religion.

Zov · 21/08/2025 22:51

Adopting is no different to surrogacy.

Well it is because it’s your your dna and that child isn’t from your dna. They have a mother who wasn’t supported to keep her child. Everyone failed that mum.
