Ageing neck - what do you use?

Sussexswain · 20/08/2025 16:58

I recently turned 40 and from about 39 I started noticing that my neck was ageing faster than anywhere else on my body. For a year I have been using the following and see no difference

  • this works - perfect cleavage and neck serum
  • beauty pie - uber youth neck and chest serum
  • elevate collagen - for three months bow

any other products that people have found that really work?

I honestly don’t know why people post like this on mumsnet. If it doesn’t bother you that’s great - I’m really happy for you. Read and move on. It does really bother me - I hate it. Do you think I should be ashamed of this?

I hate those replies too, just completely unhelpful.

Summerhut2025 · 21/08/2025 23:29

Try a Nefertiti neck lift (Botox) mine isn’t perfect but def better than it was! Creams are rubbish don’t waste your money.

Lolajane80 · 22/08/2025 00:26

No cream or serum that's just applied to the top of your skin is going to do anything ! Aging skin is inevitable and rate at which your skin ages is mostly due to genetics and to some degree sun exposure .
All those expensive creams are a complete waste of money !

DearDenimEagle · 22/08/2025 00:48

I don’t think there’s much you can do. Necks have always been the giveaway when people have facelifts. Necks and hands. Cover up or accept it. Aging is good, as the alternative is worse

BlueFlowers5 · 22/08/2025 05:53

Same cream as face, Elizabeth Arden.

What supplements please?

You mean everything I take? It’s a LOT. The ones I listed in my post are the ones that are most likely to benefit skin but if you want the whole list, let me know.

Keep the area well moisturised, exfoliate, keep well hydrated, stay away from booze and take collagen peptides. Mine was ageing a few years ago, but looks tight again at 46 nearly 47 after taking collagen and doing all of the above. I notice when I drink alcohol it looks more crepey. Fancy creams don’t really work. Lifestyle, diet and certain supplements do, as do cosmetic procedures probably but don’t have the cash or inclination to go down that road. Eventually it will just look crepey as you can’t halt ageing and genetics, you can only pay a plastic/cosmetic surgeon to reverse it.

I agree with this. I think some people are prone to a crepey neck as they age, and sugar and alcohol definitely make it worse (sadly). I do think you can make small changes through lifestyle, skincare, exercise, posture and I have certainly noticed a difference from taking bovine collagen though of course you have to keep it up. I don’t think there is a magic skincare product, just find one that suits you and keeps the area moisturised.

Genetics is the major part and then lifestyle and skincare. Mine is pretty good at 54, no HRT.

Revolutionary!

anon666 · 22/08/2025 08:18

Scarves and recently those neck bands. 🤣

Nomoredamnmats · 22/08/2025 08:38

Haven’t read full thread but just bought the pria cream- there’s a 30% bank holiday discount !

Nagyandi · 22/08/2025 08:57

Sorry OP, but none of these products will help simply because all they will do is hydrate a dry skin. Have you tried something more substantial like a hydrofacial series? Or CACI? Or the plasma treatment? Those MIGHT work. Otherwise you should avoid sun, alcohol and cigarettes especially, make sure you drink enough water and eat healthily. Good luck!

Magnoliasunrise · 22/08/2025 09:08

Profhilo and it lasts for 6 months.

I’m 68 and have been using bio oil on my neck for the past thirty years. I’ve no lines on my neck.

The local vicar has seemed to have addessed the problem with just a bit of cardboard cut from a Kellogg's Corn Flake packet in place of a tie.

Mind you his Cassock helps too, covering a multitude of sins - if you'll pardon the expression. 🫰

Really?

Exercise and diet will always beat any cream.

Incorporate strength work like dumbbell shrugs to build up your neck and upper back, and add facial movements—chin tucks are great—to keep everything supported.

And protect your skin! I avoid direct sun as much as possible and carry a UPF umbrella everywhere. (Yes, it makes me feel like a bit of a vampire, but it works.)

I’m 44, and so far, no wrinkles, no lines, and no neck issues—yet, anyway.

I’m following with interest OP as I have the same issue. I’ve seen the prai cream recommended on other threads. I’ve also heard morpheus8 and other laser treatments can work well but obviously they are more expensive and invasive so I plan to try the creams first!

I've tried Prai with no effect whatsoever

Do you use SPF on your hands? Try using it every day, should help prevent aging from sun damage. Lots of moisturiser too.

Does anyone have any budget tips for under eyes? I think it's due to burning candle at both ends. In my 40s, I'm noticing that any alcohol makes me look rough and I look younger when I don't have it

Face yoga has been good for my neck and face, I swear by it, also good if you have headaches/TMJ.

Face - short version - dry skin so lots of moisturising products and SPF every single day, even if it's grey outside. Not a sun worshipper, mainly as I burn and it has paid off with my skin.

Long version - oil cleansing then I use a gua sha/massager, sensitive cleanser (Nivea), two moisturisers as I have rosacea (Balmonds moisturiser then Epaderm lotion), Vaseline on any dry areas. Aldi do a great sensitive SPF 30 or 50 for face, it's less than £3. The Ordinary are good for cheap serums, they are pretty powerful with active ingredients including several retinol/retinoid ones. The Ordinary do a granactive retinoid in squalane oil which is ok for my sensitive skin. I don't think you always need to spend loads. I also use collagen powder and it's helped nails and hair.

Hair has also decided to dry out and start to break due to previous dying and probably hormones so that gets drenched in moisture too. Hair mask before washing, moisturising shampoo, moisturising conditioner - I like the Pantene Molecular Bond one in a pot. Then hair oil. I also find collagen has helped to stop hair breaking, along with using a brown henna dye .

greengreyblue · 22/08/2025 15:09

I was told you should never spray perfume on your neck due to the drying effect of the alcohol in it.

Bluedenimdoglover · 22/08/2025 18:12

The French love scarves for this very purpose! Personally, I would not think too much about it, your 40 - when you get to your 70s and other bits are looking crepey and saggy, you'll look back and wonder why the hell you wasted time worrying!
