Ageing neck - what do you use?

Sussexswain · 20/08/2025 16:58

I recently turned 40 and from about 39 I started noticing that my neck was ageing faster than anywhere else on my body. For a year I have been using the following and see no difference

  • this works - perfect cleavage and neck serum
  • beauty pie - uber youth neck and chest serum
  • elevate collagen - for three months bow

any other products that people have found that really work?

I'm curious about any of these suggestions that are fragrance free. I don't get on with any added scent (and sometimes also not with the smell of the chemicals but then at least I can pass off to the husband). I do like Cerave products but not finding any do wonders with my neck.

I am muh older (58) and had good results using Prai neck creams.

I'm 52 and noticed a huge improvement with Prai as well.

TheWernethWife · 21/08/2025 18:30

I use Prai on my neck and chest, think it's fabulous

I don't think anything really works. I have taken great care of my skin since my late teens and guess what, I am old now and I look it.! Non smoker, no sunbeds, use spf, eat a reasonable diet with masses of veg Sometimes I see myself unexpectdly in a reflective surface and feel shocked at how aged I am now then i go back to not really caring. Tried Prai a while back, useless, so went back to just slapping my daily moisturiser on my neck ( I have always moisturised my neck and chest). Maybe I would look even worse if I had not bothered with any skin care at all. Who knows?

Prai is absolute crap
Expensive and it made my neck worse with a wierd wobbly jelly texture .
Tret has been very slow but it's improved suddenly in the last week or 2
I do not have the neck of a 20 year but there is far less difference between my face and neck now and I have very smooth plump cheeks.( face and butt !)
I have been very good at skincare -meticulous really and drinking water and exercising too

LibertyKnickers · 21/08/2025 18:48

Not a cream or a serum, but neck and face exercises. I've been doing them since 2008 and I would say I look 10 years younger than my actual age—mid-60s now (not going by what friends or family say, but comparing myself to other women whose ages I know). You have to do them twice a day, at first anyway, but they are really worth it. It's never too late to start as muscle can always be built up, even if it takes more effort as we age. I remember when I started I would have to stop every few minutes to yawn, which showed me how much extra oxygen I was using; it was really surprising. The extra blood flow has also improved the quality of my skin.

I also use a retinol cream or serum on my neck regularly but with caution, as I have sensitive skin and it reacts to all sorts of things (always has, this isn't new).

(And stay out of the sun, of course, but I am sure you know that already.)

A guillotine.

It's posts like this that make me wish the laughing emoji was back!

I hate to be the bearer of uncomfortable truths but nothing you rub on your skin will genuinely make a difference. Some ‘tightening’ products will contract as they dry giving a temporary change, but nothing will actually stop the skin from aging. Taking collagen is a scam, it’s broken down into amino acids in your digestive system and doesn’t replace aging/faulty collagen in our bodies.

The only way to tighten the skin on your neck is face tapes or surgery, sorry.

OMG50soon · 21/08/2025 19:05

I’ve just started using the Boost Lab neck firming serum, it’s improving my neck

ToadRage · 21/08/2025 19:06

My mother was apparently told of the importance of moisturising your neck to hold back the hands of time and did listen sobfeltbthe need to impart these pearls of wisdom while her 35 year old daughter opened a Christmas present to find Nivea revitalift for over 40 day cream. Not impressed doesn't begin to cover it.

In response to your question, moisturise your neck.

SeasonOfTheWitch · 21/08/2025 19:08

Re Tret… I’ve used it on my neck and décolletage for a couple of years and it’s been absolutely fine.

I also use home-made vitamin C serum (see Lab Muffin on YT) in the same places, that was actually more irritating on my neck than tret but has now settled down.

I also take a whole raft of supplements but from a skin POV probably hyaluronic acid, MSM, vitamin C, NAC, and Ataxasthin are the heavy hitters.

In short, I am amazed how good my skin in my mid-50s, and it’s actually reversed-aged in the past couple of years.

Do you use tret on your body? I got it from skin and me and just have enough for face, no neck!

Tartantotty · 21/08/2025 19:12

Botox for me every time! It smooths our all the vertical and horizontal lines and totally refreshes. A good neck cream also helps.

I am twice your age and have left it much too late. Good for you for taking action now

Daftypants · 21/08/2025 19:23

I didn’t spend time looking after neck when I was younger because I rushed my skincare routine ( 3 young children and no help ) as a result my neck looks older than my face for sure
I started taking hydrolysed marine collagen supplements about a year or so ago and got some Estée Lauder night repair because it got good reviews and recommended by close friends.
I think daily applications of that to face AND neck have helped the appearance of the skin on my neck .
So you starting at a relatively young age will make a difference ( I am old 😂)
The recommended Prai and Strivectin are not crazy pricey so worth a try I guess

I find that the best thing to improve the look of a sagging neck is to breathe on the mirror.

Thank you, that made me snort-laugh! I only look at myself in the mirror before putting my contact lenses in or after I’ve taken them out. This massively improves all of the 5 signs of ageing they’re always banging on about in adverts. Although I can’t help thinking, if you’ve only got 5 then you don’t really have anything to worry about!

Smithwinkle · 21/08/2025 19:35

This may sound silly but it has definitely helped my neck - Sudocreme! I put a bit of normal moisturiser on first just to help the Sudocreme spread easier, but I’ve Dec noticed a difference. Let us know if any suggestions work for you and good luck 😁

FastMauveQuoter · 21/08/2025 19:35

I've noticed my neck aging too! I have very sun intolerant skin never really had a tan and always had to stay out of the sun as I burn so easily. As a result, my skin on my face is aging well, I'm 62 but most people mistake me for younger. My neck however hasn't got the same memo which is a bit annoying. So following with interest. I never thought of using a specific cream for my neck, but may give it a go.

No I was joking about my bum!

I really wouldn't bother with any supposed miracle creams and go straight to Tret
I use Dermatica and actually have too much despite one pump for face and one for neck.
I do the sandwich method and went very carefully at first.
Dermatica I liked as they were very clear that there are no fast fixes and it would be 6 months plus to see any results
I can see a difference after 4 months so am very pleased
It's!also evened out my skin tone on my face and reduced my forehead lines reduced not erased totally .

Baffy · 21/08/2025 19:48

Prai

August1980 · 21/08/2025 19:51

Op, sorry don’t want to hihack your thread but just wondered if anyone had any tips for hand. I noticed my hands are aging. Not dry. Just look older than the rest of me… advice please

Sussexswain · 21/08/2025 13:20

So other posters above you have said not to use tret on the neck as it actually can make things worse?

I have used tretinoin on my face, neck, décolletage and backs of my hands for 2 years starting very low and now up to 0.1%, it has definitely helped. A lot of people cannot tolerate it on the sensitive skin if the neck and décolletage which is why some people state it isn’t recommended. It isn’t a quick fix and you do need to use high factor SPF (which we should all be doing anyway as the sun is the most aging thing) I’m 60 next month and often get complimented on my skin 😀

Walkley18 · 21/08/2025 20:01

Will be trying some of these as it's my issue too. Thanks for starting thread OP!
