Ageing neck - what do you use?

Sussexswain · 20/08/2025 16:58

I recently turned 40 and from about 39 I started noticing that my neck was ageing faster than anywhere else on my body. For a year I have been using the following and see no difference

  • this works - perfect cleavage and neck serum
  • beauty pie - uber youth neck and chest serum
  • elevate collagen - for three months bow

any other products that people have found that really work?

The neck is a hard one - there's so much of it and on display!

I'm 70 and mine is in reasonable nick, in that it's not crepey or mottled and nor is the rest of my décolletage because I wasn't a sun-worshipper.

But there is no getting away from the general gravity droop that comes with age and I expect my neck is commensurate with my age.

At 40 I'm sure your neck is lovely and one day you'll look back on photos and think it looks great! A pp mentioned a scarf - just don't, display your neck with pride 😊

I just put my face cream on my neck. It's not ageing any faster than my face at 50. It's nonsense that you need a separate cream for your neck.

I’d have said the same thing at 50.

Now I’m 56 my neck looks so much older than my face…

I honestly don’t know why people post like this on mumsnet. If it doesn’t bother you that’s great - I’m really happy for you. Read and move on. It does really bother me - I hate it. Do you think I should be ashamed of this?

You should have posted on Style & Beauty, fewer judgmental posters there.
You haven't said what you want to improve about your neck, at age 40 you're still young.
The only way to increase collagen and diminish lines for instance is Tretinoin. It would be good protection against future ones as well. You will have to always use high factor SPF cream though when using Tret.

All other creams make the skin feel nice to the touch, but only Tret makes a visible difference.

So other posters above you have said not to use tret on the neck as it actually can make things worse?

Use what the other posters say does work then. I haven't seen anything.
You still haven't said what the neck problem is. If it's crepiness, mild exfoliation using a flannel with cream instead of soap may help.
I only know that all these other creams sold for the neck benefit only the cosmetic companies.
Plenty of info on the net using Tret on the neck or join Real Self which is a hive of information including from cosmetic surgeons.

Yes would say it’s crepeiness! I have honestly never thought of exfoliating my neck so this is a revelation! I had also never heard of tret before so will look into it - especially around using on the neck

What works for skin is Botox, face lifts , fillers and lots of prevention from youth so high spf and avoiding smoking and alcohol.
I am not prepared to go near needles or scalpels so I wear spf 50 daily ( Beauty pie do a good thin one that lasts ages) or there are many others suitable for under make up.
I never sunbathe and wear sunglasses and a hat if out for prolonged periods. I use retinol at night ( The Ordinary) and a peptide moisturiser from Inkey list. My neck isn’t too bad at 54 having only recently noticed any changes.and my DM’s was ok at 74 when she died so I’m more concerned with living past that age than what my neck looks like. Do your best and smile!

My neck depresses me. It looks saggy and crepey yet the rest of me looks fine. I'm wondering if it was because I used trent on it for a while. Or because I look down at books all the time. I'm mid 40s. Want a neck lift!

Yesterday I finally plucked up the courage and went for my first ‘Sculptra’ session. This is supposed to boost collagen and give my face a natural lift. I have marionette lines
snd will need 3-4 sessions. If it works I will also have it in my neck. I already use strong creams, which are great for fine lines, but don’t cure sagging!

Greatgoats · 21/08/2025 15:45

A313 cream…you’ll have to order from Europe though 🙂
Beware, it itches like crazy first 2/3 uses.
Only use at night.
and do not use any other exfoliant while using.
it’ll take a while to see results.

Nothing. Ageing is normal, so I don't need to cover it up.
Buy some nice scarves, if it bothers you.

Why even bother commenting. Or even opening the thread 😂
May I suggest getting a hobby. In the nicest possible way.

greengreyblue · 21/08/2025 16:33

A313 is retinol. It’s on Amazon .

Edited

I’m going to campaign for schools to teach putting factor 50 on your neck! Have always worn face cream with spf and now kicking myself that I didn’t just drag it down!

Chiffon scarf

NamechangeNightNurse · 21/08/2025 17:27

I have used SPF ever since I can remember and still have a slightly crepey neck
I think it kicked in during/ after Menopause and as a non sunbathing hat wearer its more down to collagen loss than the sun
Neck skin is far more fragile than face/ body and so ages faster.
At 50 I had no issues, periods stopped at 56
However I am using Tret on my face and also on my neck( carefully) and I have seen a really big improvement recently- after 4 months use.
Its not perfect but its much firmer
I also have a dsis who doesn't use HRT and her skin is far more aged on both her face and neck, despite a similar lifestyle.

PickleChipsareyummy · 21/08/2025 17:52

Trinny London The Elevator is good. Used for about a month and feel a difference - my daughter agrees it looks more taut

leicester66 · 21/08/2025 17:59

Don’t waste money on creams they don’t work when you think of it how could they possibly. Save up for a neck and lower face lift. Will keep you going for a good while.

gardenflowergirl · 21/08/2025 17:59

Less skin ageing is a nice side effect of hormone replacement therapy.

Mandemikc · 21/08/2025 18:02

I don't believe in creams. So I grew a beard to cover my neck. 😁

My partner is going through "The Pause", and she threatened to not pluck or tweeze and grow her beard longer than mine if I said one more word about her anti-aging regime..

I'm buying her whatever creams she wants. Damn the costs!

Using a tens machine on a low setting on neck and jawline less than £30 and very similar to expensivevtreatments - you can also use it for pain relief which also goes hand in hand with getting older

Does this work? I’d never have thought of trying it although I’ve had facials that use a current.

nobczno · 21/08/2025 18:06

I started indoor rowing again and noticed it's firming everything up, including my neck!

This! Some people 🙄

FattyMallow · 21/08/2025 18:16

Same here. I use raw, cold pressed bakuchiol from naturally balmy. I mix mine into a good moisturiser (Atopalm MLE 100ml or any urea based moisturiser) 10 to 20% max. It'll have an amazing affect but be extremely careful with dosage and it's imperative that you use it at night time. I got a mustache looking line above my lip as I used it in the morning, thinking the sun is gentle before 11... 🤪 I also use Kao Biore factor 50 sunblock, 90ml, from Stylevana, it absorbs really well into the skin and protects the skin from UV so very well.

lifeonmars100 · 21/08/2025 18:22

I don't think anything really works. I have taken great care of my skin since my late teens and guess what, I am old now and I look it.! Non smoker, no sunbeds, use spf, eat a reasonable diet with masses of veg Sometimes I see myself unexpectdly in a reflective surface and feel shocked at how aged I am now then i go back to not really caring. Tried Prai a while back, useless, so went back to just slapping my daily moisturiser on my neck ( I have always moisturised my neck and chest). Maybe I would look even worse if I had not bothered with any skin care at all. Who knows?

lilylulus · 21/08/2025 18:24

I find Lancome Genifique helps with aging skin. I use it before the moisturiser on the face and neck. And then lots of SPF50 after.

CathyIreland · 21/08/2025 18:26

Maybe Boots might do a special offer for the Mumsnet community!
