Ageing neck - what do you use?

Sussexswain · 20/08/2025 16:58

I recently turned 40 and from about 39 I started noticing that my neck was ageing faster than anywhere else on my body. For a year I have been using the following and see no difference

  • this works - perfect cleavage and neck serum
  • beauty pie - uber youth neck and chest serum
  • elevate collagen - for three months bow

any other products that people have found that really work?

Scaffolding 😉

LawfulSearch · 21/08/2025 20:20

I used Prai for a while, saw no difference and HATED the smell. Had to get rid of it. I’m using Clarins extra firming neck and décolleté cream now. I honestly don’t know if the perceived difference is real or placebo effect.

AgathaCristina · 21/08/2025 20:23

tretinoin

PollyannaNibbs · 21/08/2025 20:43

You can't do anything. It's genetic. No expensive creams or potions are going to make any significant difference. My neighbour is 10 years younger than me and she sits in the sun whenever it's out. My neck looks 10 years younger than hers and I hate sitting in the sun. My daughters are 30 and 32 and they still get asked for ID when buying alcohol. To have an unwrinkled neck is subject mostly to genetics - and secondarily weathering. Sadly not much you can do about it short of a neck lift. More expensive than creams but it will do the job. Money is wasted on creams claiming to rejuvenate.

Horsie · 21/08/2025 21:00

I thought Clarins neck cream was good, but I haven't used it in ages because it's expensive. I saw a difference though. I was mid-forties when I used it.

PollyannaNibbs · 21/08/2025 21:00

I honestly don’t know why people post like this on mumsnet. If it doesn’t bother you that’s great - I’m really happy for you. Read and move on. It does really bother me - I hate it. Do you think I should be ashamed of this?

Of course you shouldn't be ashamed. It happens to all of us eventually.
But creams are not going to sort it and you need to accept that.
Surgery might. I'm late 60s and do not have a particularly wrinkly neck, well not for my age anyway Less wrinkly than most of my peers I suppose but likely more wrinkly than yours at 40.

Honestly, nobody looks at your neck. I have friends and family and I never look at their necks and judge them for it. Your neck is just you, accept yourself as you are because everyone else who loves you does. You might be focussing on your neck wrinkles but I can assure you NOBODY else is and I suspect from your post that you are obsessing about your neck. Looking in the mirror from all angles, and despairing at how wrinkly your neck appears. TO YOU.

Nobody else gives a shiny shite. Trust me.
Bloody forget about your neck wrinkles and concentrate on the more important things in your life.

Creams can improve the look of the skin, which in turn makes the neck look younger. No, it's not like having surgery, but since marketing a cream as a drug means many more years of testing, there are a lot of expensive creams that do more than they claim to on the packaging. Personally, I see a difference with high-end skincare. My skin looks much more even, fresh, and - well, not shiny exactly, but dewy. And these things make it look younger. Estee Lauder has always worked for me, and some of the newer companies like Algenist, Peter Thomas Roth, and Kate Somerville are amazing too. I bet if you bought some good skincare and committed using it properly twice a day, you'd see a visible difference in three months.

PollyannaNibbs · 21/08/2025 21:08

I use no 7 restore and renew face and neck serum in the morning and at night. I used Clinique cleansing bar to wash my face and neck. L’Oréal hyaluron expert both day and night cream and also Nivea Q10 body firming lotion for over 60’s skin.
ive also tightened it doing arm exercises at the gym. I’m 66 with no wrinkles

I'm 70 with no wrinkles and I don't do any of that. Just wash my face with soap and water. Faces and skin is genetic. No doubt in the very near future my face will collapse into a crepey mess of wrinkles. Hasn't happened yet.

I could spend a hundred quid a week on creams an potions and it would make no difference at all to my visage. I'm confident that this applies to everyone.

£63 for heaven's sake!

My first tub was a gift. It lasted a year so I was happy to pay for the second one. I don’t have a massive budget, but that’s only just over £1 a week and it really works.

Microneedling

I think microneedling as well as Botox on the platysma bands ( although not everyone needs this) then find a good rich cream with SPF

HevenlyMeS · 21/08/2025 21:24

God Bless You
I'd recommend neck exercises & the cobra stretch in yoga where your neck muscles are worked for as long's you hold the cobra pose
Jilly Johnsons facial exercises are brilliant or someone whom you can find similar to what she taught
💚⭐💚Wishing You&Yours all the utmost very best

You make a good argument and I acknowledge your personal experience.
I've half a mind to invest in your recommendations and update you in 3 months.
I'm already familiar and a regular user of the Estee Lauder brand, so it won't be too difficult to discuss other products.

Yep. Taking your comments seriously. (Although I already look much younger than I am!!)

Prai is absolute crap
Expensive and it made my neck worse with a wierd wobbly jelly texture .
Tret has been very slow but it's improved suddenly in the last week or 2
I do not have the neck of a 20 year but there is far less difference between my face and neck now and I have very smooth plump cheeks.( face and butt !)
I have been very good at skincare -meticulous really and drinking water and exercising too

Edited

Agree about the texture of Prai, it seemed to roll off my neck in strange globules. The one thing I am not good at is drinking lots of water, I just forget. I sleep on a silk pillowcase, meant to be good for skin and hair. Can't comment of the latter but it feels lovely to rest my weary head on at bedtime. Bought a few so I can have one on the bed, one in the wash and one in the airing cupboard.

Beachtastic · 21/08/2025 21:35

I don't know, OP, but this book made me laugh

Another vote for Prai. But when I don’t have that, I use night cream on my neck during the day - as my neck needs something richer than my face.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/08/2025 21:38

I have been using Noughty- the Booster neck and décolleté serum. I found my neck was getting a bit wrinkly after losing weight and the make up outlet near me recommended it. Unfortunately it’s really hard to get now and I bought six bottles on eBay as panicking what to use when it runs out 😆. It wasn’t expensive either.

Hedjwitch · 21/08/2025 21:51

Another saggy neck/throat here but as I refuse to give up on the joy of sitting out in the sun,I shall have to live with it.

Solerina · 21/08/2025 21:55

Prai, wouldn’t be without it.

LaDamaDeElche · 21/08/2025 21:59

Keep the area well moisturised, exfoliate, keep well hydrated, stay away from booze and take collagen peptides. Mine was ageing a few years ago, but looks tight again at 46 nearly 47 after taking collagen and doing all of the above. I notice when I drink alcohol it looks more crepey. Fancy creams don’t really work. Lifestyle, diet and certain supplements do, as do cosmetic procedures probably but don’t have the cash or inclination to go down that road. Eventually it will just look crepey as you can’t halt ageing and genetics, you can only pay a plastic/cosmetic surgeon to reverse it.

Genetic but also dependent on sun worshipping and smoking/drinking. I’m finally glad I’m a vampire

AnotherNaCha · 21/08/2025 22:30

Polyneucliotides really work. Profhilo as well but to a lesser degree (both are injections but neither are filler/Botox). The former is salmon sperm dna (!) and the latter is hylauronic acid

JungAtHeart · 21/08/2025 22:48

I joined an online, daily meditation group. We meet for half an hour every evening and it’s sort of guided … well, someone leads. The best thing that has come from it for me is the ethos that I am ‘not’ my body. My body is spectacular and a gift that carries me through this existence. It’s changed my whole attitude to my physical appearance 🤷🏼‍♀️

PotatoLove · 21/08/2025 22:50

Clothes peg.

schtompy · 21/08/2025 23:15

Prai neck creams, I'm 59, plus yoga, tightens up the muscles
