Laundry combination for lasting smell and compliments?

Hi all,
Was just wondering what does everyone use for a long lasting and well complimented and noticed fresh laundry smell to their clothes, bedding towels etc? My routine gets heavily complimented and have gotten friends and family and colleagues onto at least parts of my routine depending on what they liked.
I'll go first:

Detergent: Persil colour protect (liquid) for coloured clothes. Surf tropical Lily (liquid) or sometimes Ariel original liquid for bedding towels etc with scoop of oxi any brand.

Softener: Lenor outdoorable - spring awakening
Scent beads: Lenor Spring awakening (only for clothes, sometimes towels, doesn't last long on my bedding and find it expensive enough as it is)

I dry everything on the maiden inside (sometimes dry my sheets outside) but drying clothes outside takes any smell out for me unless it's super sunny and warm.

oh and please keep it on topic... I am aware of the chemicals, luckily no one in my family has allergies. So if you don't like scented laundry, this one is not for you. Thanks.

tell me your go-to!

Nothing worse than opening a Vinted parcel to be assaulted by sweet smelling fumes of overly washed garments. Or out walking in the countryside in the fresh air and someone runs past exuding laundry fumes.

Just clean with one pod or one scoop of whatever make. You don't need all the other shit. It's pure marketing and designed to remove money from your bank account.

Jamfirstest · 15/08/2025 23:34

@Wateringinaheatwavei can absolutely identify owners of garments by the smell of the detergent.

Scent beads have microplastics in them that you are putting directly into the water- the treatment plants can't get them out agaihn. Please don't use them- its really not necessary when so many other things make laundry smell lovely!

This routine is an extremely damaging to the environment.

I'd be more concerned about the three socks missing in the photo.

Oh, I see it's just for effect.

Peak mumsnet post btw. You’ve managed to rile a load of miserable sods up over “checks notes” laundry smells.

I love smelling clean laundry, better than that slightly mildewy/fusty smell that’s so prevalent in public, going by this thread I can see why.

I personally use daz powder and yellow lenor. I also get told I smell nice. Apparently that means I’ve failed in life according to this thread 🤣

Hard agree. Far too many people overload their washing machines, only wash at bloody 20 degrees FFS and use inferior laundry products. The resulting aroma of fusty biscuits on all their clothes is highly unpleasant.

I can't believe its actually possible to waste money like this

I can't believe people are so unnecessarily nasty on the internet. But it takes all sorts I guess.

in your opinion its a waste of money but in reality the person can spend their money on whatever they like it doesn't affect you in the slightest

Not failed. We all hate that sour mildew smell but going too far the other way is horrid too. Just use your Daz and save your pennies on the unnecessary Lenor. You’ll be grand 😉

I swear people have forgotten what clean clothes smell like. They smell of nothing. If your clothes are drenched in some Fairy FooFoo Flower it means they’re not clean. They're imbued with unnecessary and unpleasant chemicals

I buy baby clothes on Vinted, and sometimes you can smell the parcels as they come through the door. Babies have a really keen sense of smell so it must be really unpleasant for the poor little things. Takes 2 or 3 washes to get the worst of it out.

PollyannaNibbs · 16/08/2025 09:54

Persil non bio and white vinegar in the rinse drawer.
Clothes are clean and soft and the powder/rinse drawers also remain
sparkly white.
Just because something smells strongly of perfume doesn't mean it's clean.

ShiftySquirrel · 16/08/2025 10:05

I just use Tesco's own lavender wash. The fragrance smells nice when it comes out of the machine but has usually gone by the time everything is line dried.

I do live in a hard water area but don't bother with softeners, I quite like a crisp line dried towel- reminds me of my childhood!

doodleschnoodle · 16/08/2025 10:07

I love Lenor Outdoorables Spring version.

Exactly, reminds me of the girl at school who's house was filthy but she thought dousing herself in market knock off perfume would disguise the fact she stank.
Highly perfumed laundry just means your clothes are coated in highly unnecessary, harmful crap.

No thanks, I actually like the smell of the lenor 😁

There's lot of shit I don't need but happily choose to spend my money on - Lenor is one of them.

Chewbecca · 16/08/2025 10:56

Most people out and about smell of fresh laundry or a lovely scent they have put on. Which is not offending anyone,

It is offending some people. Me for one. I move away from strongly scented people (whether perfume or clothes) in cafes, trains, anywhere I can escape.

hufflepuffbutrequestinggriffindor · 16/08/2025 11:00

I use Ariel liquid as my other half is not good with other detergents then for me I use Lenor scent boosts and also dettol laundry additive as I prefer to wash at cooler temps. My clothes smell nice and I have been complimented on them. I also don’t wear perfume as for me that triggers more reactions than the smell of clean clothes.

I am continually agog at the bullshit inventions like "scent beads" and that grown intelligent adults buy them. I am waiting for someone from Unilever to admit it was all a big joke to see how gullible their customers are.

And the fact that the scent lasts 14 days 🤢surely indicates that it’s overpoweringly strong.

Tallow + Ash. All you need.

Do you find the scent is less when you dry outside? I use it for me and dh. Ds's gets two pods of smol bio and shitloads of vanish.

I don’t dry outside a lot. Only for those that cannot be tumble dry, and I’ll admit, the scent doesn’t seem to stick compared to tumble dry. Despite the recommendation of Tallow to not tumble dry.

Essentially, Tumble dry, and everything smells lovely. Outside, still smells nice but fainter.

Laundry fragrances of the Lenor variety are usually phthalates which are endocrine disrupters, cause asthma and increasingly linked to all kinds of illness.

Fair play if you don’t care about your own health but it’s not good for growing kids to be continually exposed. Same goes for home scents/melts/plug ins.

MyCoralHedgehog · 16/08/2025 14:04

Whatever is on offer when I need it

InterIgnis · 16/08/2025 14:22

I throw some bath and body works laundry detergent and/or fragrance booster in along with my regular detergent when washing bedding and towels:

They change the scents available a lot. They don’t have it on the site at the moment as it’s seasonal, but I bought up some bottles of Vanilla Bean Noel at Christmas to use through the year.
