Laundry combination for lasting smell and compliments?

ForFunnyMember · 15/08/2025 16:01

Hi all,
Was just wondering what does everyone use for a long lasting and well complimented and noticed fresh laundry smell to their clothes, bedding towels etc? My routine gets heavily complimented and have gotten friends and family and colleagues onto at least parts of my routine depending on what they liked.
I'll go first:

Detergent: Persil colour protect (liquid) for coloured clothes. Surf tropical Lily (liquid) or sometimes Ariel original liquid for bedding towels etc with scoop of oxi any brand.

Softener: Lenor outdoorable - spring awakening
Scent beads: Lenor Spring awakening (only for clothes, sometimes towels, doesn't last long on my bedding and find it expensive enough as it is)

I dry everything on the maiden inside (sometimes dry my sheets outside) but drying clothes outside takes any smell out for me unless it's super sunny and warm.

oh and please keep it on topic... I am aware of the chemicals, luckily no one in my family has allergies. So if you don't like scented laundry, this one is not for you. Thanks.

tell me your go-to!

Laundry combination for lasting smell and compliments?

Clothes made of plastic, washed in plastic detergents, dried indoors with no airflow...

Laundry shouldn't smell of anything. That's what clean means!

🤢 I definitely don’t recommend them, very highly scented and, even at quarter dose, overpowering and unpleasant.
I use Persil non bio or Aerial, a small amount of Comfort and dry as much as possible outside.

I've just spent £50 on Tallow and bastard Ash and can't smell a thing. I've used 3 of the samples and none of them smell of anything at all to me!

I really want something natural and eco friendly that just smells 'fresh'. I wash an awful lot of bedding and it gets very stale smelling when it's stored. I clean my machine regularly and dry outdoors.

The only thing that does it is the Fairy beads but they are so bad for the environment.

I am laughing at the idea of people
complimenting your laundry routine - it really takes all sorts

I use similar products to OP. People are always complimentary about how nice my house smells. So indirectly like the laundry smell?

I thought the conditioner was shown to clog machines and add to fatbergs as well as being made from horse hooves? I can't see anyone praising someone for advertising this.

Tallow + Ash. All you need.

This. I wish I’d never discovered it as it’s £££ but I keep going back to buy it as nothing else cuts it now I’ve used it.

OP you have been warned!!!

I have no commercial interest in T&A btw. Wish I did though given what I spend on it 😂

Something that has the fragrant waft of the Leaping Bunny for me .

Not fussy as long as it is certified .

buswankerbabe · 15/08/2025 18:50

I wash all of our clothes after one single wear because I’m a wee bit OCD. I also like a nice fresh scent on my laundry and don’t give a bollocks what other people think. I use fairy pods and fairy outdoorable conditioner. Often vanish oxi action colours and white formula as I have five kids that fuck clothes up a lot. For bedding and towels I use unstoppables and line dry where possible.

changedusername190 · 15/08/2025 18:55

I’ve been on public transport today and I’ve smelt an assortment of awful smells. A gentleman who stunk badly of stale fags, a young man whose sweat was overpowering and lastly a child with awful crisps. Given the choice I would rather detergent smells any day

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/08/2025 18:58

Damp clothes smell is my bête noire
Makes me gag .

Which do you think is the nicest and longest lasting?

Have tried Oud ( no smell) Duvet Day ( thought smelt a bit artificial, then smell disappeared) and Icing on the Cake ( nice but maybe a bit spicy then also seemed to disappear) The reviews are so good there must be a long lasting one!

AnnaBalfour · 15/08/2025 19:15

The mean comments on here are so unnecessary

OP asked for other people’s laundry routine and specified that those who don’t approve of this type of routine shouldn’t participate

Kamek · 15/08/2025 19:23

The Wilton London lavender detergent and conditioner smell amazing, like real lavender as they're fragranced with lavender oil. And the Ineos cotton & linen breeze liquid is a gentle but really nice smell

So if you don't like scented laundry, this one is not for you. Thanks

Irrelevant of allergies, having your clothes smell so strongly of scent that people around you are aware of it and comment at all is really anti social, for everyone who thinks it’s great there’s probably 10 people heaving because it makes them feel queasy. Please don’t encourage this. Thanks

exactly this..scent boosters etc are disgusting a waste of money and so not needed. basic perisil non biligical waging powder no smell no nothing.
fabric conditioner also destroys clothes
for me what I require from laundry is clean clean

Cookie105 · 15/08/2025 22:07

I love it when my clothes smell lovely and have asked people a few times in the past what do they use because I love the smell. I also use the outdoorable or Persil wonderwash (this is one I smelt on someone else’s cushions and asked what was it) 🤣😀
My other long term favourite is Comfort Honeysuckle 😃 I dry mine mainly inside too so the smell lasts better.

SirChenjins · 15/08/2025 22:12

I use Ariel powder and the blue Lenor - and sometimes when I'm feeling really brazen I'll chuck in a capful of the scent boosters too.

beachwalkx · 15/08/2025 22:13

Persil bio powder
fairy manuka honey scent boosters
dettol laundry cleanser for sweaty gym wear

Some of us have to dry clothes inside. I do open a window though but not in winter while I’m using a dehumidifier

Scent beads have microplastics in them that you are putting directly into the water- the treatment plants can't get them out agaihn. Please don't use them- its really not necessary when so many other things make laundry smell lovely!

Never even heard of scent beads

I despise fabric softener it makes everything floppy and stinks

Wednesdaysotherchild · 15/08/2025 22:20

Grim, stop polluting our air and water with your toxic carcinogenic endocrine-disrupting fragrances.

SirChenjins · 15/08/2025 22:20

Floppy?! How much of the stuff are you putting in?

I would have been-but once had a client compliment me on the smell of my washing powder-and it was only something cheap like Bold, or possibly even an own brand. Made me laugh. It was better than her saying I stink.

OP, I got some Tallow and Ash samples cheap, and this smells great and works well, but it's not usually cheap and it's up to you if you'd pay that much.

TheBossOfMe · 15/08/2025 22:26

Maybe not what this thread is about. But I think how someone smells, including their clothes, is incredibly evocative and personal. Usually though a personal choice of fragrance and toiletries. I don't think I've ever sniffed fresh laundry and thought of a person. Quite the opposite, Its like rinsing them away.

My dad used Aramis. Very 1970s but is now quite the thing amongst teenagers again. It makes me smile when I smell it.

Have you tried the sprays? The red one?

Shegotanology · 15/08/2025 22:30

I love the smell of line-dried clothes; the scent is so fresh! I also like the smell of Ariel cold wash. I don't enjoy the feel of clothes that have been washed in fabric softener.

Mummyto3ginismyfriend · 15/08/2025 22:35

Tallow & Ash for me. I love the green pistachio one. It's really lovely and the smell lingers for ages.
