Witches - spell help

Hey, looking for some advice as in all the years of spell work I have never had this happen before.

i did a spell on the full moon, all very well intentioned, to help me save money. I lit a candle in a special place to me, set my intention, and the candle blew out quite quickly. It was near a window, so I took it to mean spell completed ie wish made.

i took the candle home and lit it again later on the lionsgate portal night to strengthen my resolve. The wax kind of dripped on to my finger and burned me a lot. I’ve never had that happen before. I looked it up and some say it’s a warning (what can it be warning me about, it’s literally just to make me save money 😂) or - very differing view - the spell needed some kind of karmic or energy payment from me, and I “paid” with the burn to add strength and resolve to the spell.

any thoughts? I’ve done this a long time and never cast bad or ill intentioned spells so I don’t know what this was about! Has someone hexed me?

blessed be x

My only experience of witches is watching Charmed. I thought witches couldn't cast spells for their own gain. Can't you witches light a candle and turn Trump into a fish or something useful?

JoshLymanSwagger · 14/08/2025 13:18

I think you'd be better off using LED candles. You can't burn yourself on them and most have a timer so you don't need to blow them out (another cause of injury).

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2025 11:53

I'm not sure what you mean.

Meddling in what, exactly?
The OP got burnt by candle wax. How is that meddling? It's just a minor injury.

I suppose I should've spelt it out, although I would've thought my comment was reasonably decipherable. However, here goes - I wouldn't meddle, get involved in or engage with any form of spell casting or similar activities.

I live in SE England. Ain’t no sabre cat tigers or dire wolves in these parts.

Where the heck do you live??

Our evolutionary biology doesn't differentiate between sabre toothed cats and the sense that somebody is following you down a residential street at night. Other stressful situations are indistinguishable biologically, even if they are socially - a boss having a go at you when you're trapped in the office and need the job is no different to the sympathetic nervous system than a low growl from an unleashed big dog between you and the front door.

Massive leap? Like when you said to another poster "I’m sorry that you don’t believe in anything at all," because she knows withcraft is nonsense?

actually not a massive leap on my part, because my post was in reply to @IHateWasps who had stated:

”People do plenty of things repeatedly that don’t work like pray to non existent beings.”

I took that to mean that this particular poster does not have any religious or other spiritual belief, in combination with other skeptical comments.

Of course @IHateWasps could be a religious zealot who is offended by someone praying to a supernatural being than the one she believes exists. But i feel then that her posts would have taken a different tone - less derisive about belief in general and more about the dangers of the occult and unorthodox religious practice.

So no, I don’t think I made a massive leap but I may have missed something. Would be happy to hear what you think my massive leap consisted of - please feel free to share.

You need it explained to you that belief is not confined to religion or woo?

TheVeronicas · 14/08/2025 13:29

A lot of people believe in prayer.
To a pagan, spells are just the same.

Positive thinking is also often raised as a good thing to do.
It isnt nice to sneer at the way others do things that might be different to you and religion is no exception.

Robin67 · 14/08/2025 13:32

Huh?

My thoughts are how on earth can anyone believe in this utter nonsense?

It's no different to any other religion is it?

I don't believe in religion but it doesn't hurt to be respectful. Even if privately you think it's utter tosh.

Ahhh I see. So you believe in the wisdom passed down to you in simplified form by the scientific community at a point in time in history, that’s fine.

I’m happy to let you have this belief because it comforts you in an uncertain world. It allows you to feel a measure of control - it gives meaning to your actions and reaction, a way to interpret the word around you.

I personally don’t believe it is that simple. I don’t believe that this stuff about being scared of sabre tooth tigers is “the whole truth”. I believe there is more to understand about the brain and about evolutionary biology. I believe that as a layperson reading an article in a scientific journal, probably am not seeing “the whole picture”. I’m happy to live with the uncertainty.

There are some entirely unshakeable scientific “truths”. But a lot of the rest is uncertain. We accept the current “truth” . We accept things we are told, that we haven’t experienced or researched. We modify our beliefs when the scientists come along and say, “hey guys you know that thing we told you for the last few decades, well guess what something incredible we have tweaked that belief based on new research”. We accept that wisdom, like people used to accept the Truth of the bible as interpreted by their churches and clergy.

We are all in search of truth and meaning.

You can have your truth. Please may I have mine?

I do spells quite regularly. I was told to not use the same candle again, because the intent has been set. I use birthday candles so theyre quicker to burn and throw away after one spell. I think it will be fine. I think it was just a physical reaction between the candle and the flame, nothing more. You can ask for a white bubble of protection to make you feel better. But I doubt the incident meant anything. Hope your finger feels better soon. The best money spell I've done has been the cinnamon one. Where you blow 3 pinches into the home (through the front door) on the first of the month, while saying a little chant 3 times. That's always done well for me, money wise.

JustSawJohnny · 14/08/2025 13:42

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2025 11:21

Oh don't be so silly!
It's impossible to cast spells.
I can't believe anyone believes in this nonsense.
🤣🤣

Some people feel the same about religion but they're not rude enough to say it outright to those who believe.

GAJLY · 14/08/2025 13:45

Is there a witches corner on here? @Mumsnet

Avoidhumans · 14/08/2025 13:46

@lastminutetrip Where did you learn spells from?
Just asking was it passed down or did you just take it up?

Gettingbysomehow · 14/08/2025 13:46

With witchcraft take the easiest explanation. Basically you were careless with hot wax and burnt yourself. It means nothing.
High Priestess of 45 years. My HP set himself on fire jumping the bonfire once....take robe off before jumping. Lesson learnt.

Juniperberry55 · 14/08/2025 13:46

This whole thread reminds me of the tim minchin storm song/beat poem. Feel like some of the people in this thread would enjoy it. Look it up on YouTube.

Avoidhumans · 14/08/2025 13:49

I dont believe in it tbh but i believe if some people was more positive about life they wont need magic thinking.

LadyLucksalot · 14/08/2025 13:50

OP, I hear you. The world has plenty of naysayers and cynics and it is much easier to scoff and dismiss things out of hand than to explore new ideas.

It requires a great deal of bravery to embrace and explore different ideas and I salute you for it.

I'm a big one for setting intentions on the New Moon, vision boards and using prayer in my everyday life. Not prayer in the religious sense, but more in the sense of focusing on the outcome I want, feeling it to be so and giving thanks.

CoffeeCantata · 14/08/2025 13:51

Oh my God, OP, I thought your post was a joke.

These people walk amongst us.

BunniB · 14/08/2025 13:51

RimTimTagiDim · 14/08/2025 13:27

You need it explained to you that belief is not confined to religion or woo?

Well actually my belief is that EVERYTHING I think is truth is belief. But I was trying to talk @IHateWasps language, because most people think some things are factually true (maybe things like gravity or physical existence).

It’s getting a bit philosophical.

But go on then, I’ll play. Give me some beliefs that you consider are not “woo”!

Exactly this … first post .. no need for 8 pages 🤷‍♀️😂

BunniB · 14/08/2025 13:53

@CoffeeCantata don’t be afraid. It’s not like you just woke up out of The Matrix or discovered Buffy The Vampire Slayer was biographical. 🫣 Loads of people believe loads of things… Surprise!

I didn’t read 8 pages. I read the first post and agreed. It’s twaddle. Some believe, most don’t.
