Witches - spell help

lastminutetrip · 14/08/2025 11:09

Hey, looking for some advice as in all the years of spell work I have never had this happen before.

i did a spell on the full moon, all very well intentioned, to help me save money. I lit a candle in a special place to me, set my intention, and the candle blew out quite quickly. It was near a window, so I took it to mean spell completed ie wish made.

i took the candle home and lit it again later on the lionsgate portal night to strengthen my resolve. The wax kind of dripped on to my finger and burned me a lot. I’ve never had that happen before. I looked it up and some say it’s a warning (what can it be warning me about, it’s literally just to make me save money 😂) or - very differing view - the spell needed some kind of karmic or energy payment from me, and I “paid” with the burn to add strength and resolve to the spell.

any thoughts? I’ve done this a long time and never cast bad or ill intentioned spells so I don’t know what this was about! Has someone hexed me?

blessed be x

It’s that she said she’d never seen it. I gave her the link so I find that both unbelievable and just another attempt to diminish someone.

which is kind of similar to a hex 😂

No

Non loonies call this a dissenting opinion. These are healthy.

Its part of the whole process of critical thinking.

It's sad to think the only joy in life comes from making wishes and indulging in woo. I have much richer sources of enjoyment in my life!

Massive leap. Who said that’s the OP’s only joy in life? She might have a satisfying career as a nurse. Or five beautiful children. Or an amazing sex life. Anything!

Not mutually exclusive.

bumblebramble · 14/08/2025 12:55

@lastminutetrip can I gently suggest that you might be getting drawn towards negativity - you don’t have to engage with it, you can less it pass you by.

The money intention might be veering into negativity too - too tight, too restrictive. Shutting down instead of opening up to possibilities.

And talk of jinxing yourself and hexes.

I’m don’t mean this unkindly, but I know how money struggles can pull us down ( As can Mumsnet struggles - You are burning yourself on this thread too. )

Have a read of the art of frugal hedonism (or look for some author interviews) for a mindset shift. I think it might be a good fit for you?

The Hopis have repeatedly asked woo practitioners to stop naming this nonsense after them, but the woo crowd won't oblige.

It's ridiculous, isn't it?

Yet if I were to post about being a Christian and going to church no one would defend me from those saying " who believes in sky fairies 🤣" etc etc

Hope you get your answer OP 🙂

The human mind is incredibly powerful (see the placebo effect), and taking time to focus on what you want and how you might make it happen, are all very valid. Using the ritual of lighting a candle and using that to help you focus, also harmless (apart from the burn 😁)

it becomes unhelpful when someone worries about a perfectly explicable event (hot wax from said candle dripping and causing a burn) being down to “magic” (someone hexing her). Then it’s bordering on mental illness.

This.

There is definitely power in positive thinking and how you focus your mind towards positive thoughts can take many forms.

You can also take the fact you noticed things and felt negativity around them (candle going out, burn) as signs that you do not feel comfortable with your own intentions so be introspective and ask yourself why you may feel something is stopping from you from achieving your goal.

Then use this reflection to educate your next actions.

Massive leap? Like when you said to another poster "I’m sorry that you don’t believe in anything at all," because she knows withcraft is nonsense?

Dissenters have just as much right to post.

You telling people who don't agree with you to sod off is beyond childish.

You can't even string together a coherent argument... just sod off. LOL

Says a lot about your intelligence level tbh

Of course I cannot part the sea with a spell. But can I strengthen resolve and determination in myself mentally by lighting a candle and focusing on the task. Of course. Those things work all the time. It’s simply goal setting.

You see this in 5 year plans and quarterly financial accounting.

the burn was significant to me because i do believe in bad energy and people not wanting you to have things. As perfectly evidenced here in this thread. I can’t even have my belief system when I’ve not said a bad word about anyone else’s beliefs.

You can have whatever you want and do whatever you want, but you jumped to the idea that someone “hexed” you because some candles wax fell on your hand when you were messing about with a candle.

Thats worrying. That sort of paranoia is worrying.

Hoppinggreen · 14/08/2025 13:01

Nothing wrong with beliefs of any kind.
It when people try to monetise them or use them to harm or encourage others to do harm that they are dangerous

IHateWasps · 14/08/2025 11:20

It’s chat not The Unexplained so I’ll feel free to comment on it if I wish thank you.

This nonsense is harmful, not innocent at all.

It always makes me laugh when posts on magic come up how there’s always the group falling over themselves to say it’s all ridiculous. I do wonder what makes them engage with such threads. They can’t hope to change people’s minds, they clearly aren’t here to learn anything. I’d be really interested to hear from any of them what they hope to get by engaging with the thread.

EuclidianGeometryFan · 14/08/2025 13:05

If this was the Aquarius full moon a couple of days ago, Mars was in a very powerful position. That Mars energy manifested in a burn.

BunniB · 14/08/2025 13:07

@IHateWasps just returning to the subject of your name: you have been stung once in your entire life, you don’t actually mind wasps, but one sting and you change your MN name? You had an entirely illogical emotional response.

Did you ever bump your funny bone or trap a finger?Or get a paper cut? Guessing you have. But not thought “I hate books and cupboard doors, time to change my MN name!”

People are not logical and we respond to mundane and natural events differently. We are not robots.

I got a wasp trapped up my sleeve when I was 7 years old. I was repeatedly stung. My learning was: wasps can sting you, be careful. That’s all.

Can you see how in this simple example our approach to life, our instincts about cause and effect, are not always evident and logical? And we don’t drive ourselves to be entirely logical because that ultimately leads to the removal of a lot of good things that many people value including love, compassion, generosity, hope.

I prefer my life with its high percentage of illogical content - I would be a real bitch if I was logical all the time.

My thoughts are maybe you should be a bit more open-minded and not dismiss something you know nothing about? It's not my thing but it obviously works sometimes (manifesting, power of the mind, focus of intention, maybe) or people wouldn't continue to do it.

No it doesn’t work. Sometimes things happen coincidentally.

weddinghelp2026 · 14/08/2025 13:10

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne you've honestly never heard of candles on an adult's birthday cake, or knocking on wood (there is even a very famous song named after this)? And you lived in a place with lots of Turkish people and don't know what the evil eye is?

May I suggest you get out more.

WillYouShutUp · 14/08/2025 13:11

BunniB · 14/08/2025 12:47

I live in SE England. Ain’t no sabre cat tigers or dire wolves in these parts.

Where the heck do you live??

I’m hoping this a joke re the tigers and wolves not living in SE England. You do know our bodies evolved to keep us safe from threats, by releasing chemicals into our bloodstream to help us run fast and escape (and diverting away from digestion which is not a necessary function when your life is in danger) and just because wild animals no longer roam SE England doesn’t mean our bodies have evolved to not react in a ‘flight or fight’ way.
If you pour hot wax onto your hand, your body is very likely to have a reaction to, at the very least, make you pull your hand away.

It works in the same way as a clock telling the right time twice a day works. It's nonsense.

Actually, it’s far more complicated than that,

Ifailed · 14/08/2025 13:14

You set light to some sage branches? twigs? and walk around your house wafting the smoke everywhere to get rid of all the negative vibes. I've never encountered it in real life but it apparently reeks like anything.

If I wandered around my house waving smoking sage branches about the smoke alarm would start squawking and I would need to get the steps out to turn the wretched thing off, then probably fall and break a limb.

So much for negative vibes.

I second the art of frugal hedonism, such a good book, very counter culture.
