Witches - spell help

Hey, looking for some advice as in all the years of spell work I have never had this happen before.

i did a spell on the full moon, all very well intentioned, to help me save money. I lit a candle in a special place to me, set my intention, and the candle blew out quite quickly. It was near a window, so I took it to mean spell completed ie wish made.

i took the candle home and lit it again later on the lionsgate portal night to strengthen my resolve. The wax kind of dripped on to my finger and burned me a lot. I’ve never had that happen before. I looked it up and some say it’s a warning (what can it be warning me about, it’s literally just to make me save money 😂) or - very differing view - the spell needed some kind of karmic or energy payment from me, and I “paid” with the burn to add strength and resolve to the spell.

any thoughts? I’ve done this a long time and never cast bad or ill intentioned spells so I don’t know what this was about! Has someone hexed me?

blessed be x

My thoughts are how on earth can anyone believe in this utter nonsense?

Why did you have to start this off with such a negative post? I am not a witch but was looking forward to hearing the answers.

Would love to hear more about witchcraft.

IHateWasps · 14/08/2025 11:20

It’s chat not The Unexplained so I’ll feel free to comment on it if I wish thank you.

This nonsense is harmful, not innocent at all.

So you do believe in it?

I never said she was a loony, you're the one saying she is a loony.

Incorrect upthread someone accused her of “borderline mental illness” and al these attacks on her belief system are in the same vein. Unkind.

Why don't acupuncturists use spears instead of those teeny needles?

Because their patients would all die, which is not generally the aim of medical treatment.

Phatgurslyms · 14/08/2025 12:27

SunlitUpland · 14/08/2025 11:55

The PP posted because she was afraid someone had hexed her. People are pointing out that (a) this is not possible and (b) that people get candle wax on themselves all the time. Believing she’s been hexed because of something that happens every time someone blows out candles on a birthday cake or lights a tea light makes as much sense as thinking a feather in your garden is a message from a dead relative rather than evidence of birds.

Oh, I think it is possible to be hexed. People’s ill intentions manifest in all sorts of ways. It’s logical.

It was actually my thumb

That’s very sinister.

You know the old saying, “candle burn on the non-finger finger/wicked things will strongly linger/evil is upon you hence/go to Aldi and save some pence”

It’s venerable and a powerful reminder of respect for the forces we don’t understand.

I would go and see Goody Simpson, the wise woman of Letchworth Garden City. She has the potent spells that could save you.

MagpiePi · 14/08/2025 12:22

...smaller targeted jab of a spear?
Why don't acupuncturists use spears instead of those teeny needles?

Haha, I don’t know if it’s a true story, could also be an analogy of how it works. An area needs attention, but it’s sort of vague. Show the body a pointed target and it will get work to work right away on sending repairs to that smaller area. Kind of like when you get a small cut and your body rushes to clot it. But the byproduct of the targeted attention sends increased circulation to the area over time, creating mass healing.

I assume you’ve never seen the eye of Fatma / Hamsa either? What other things can you suggest I simply made up today on this thread?

Nothing. Give over. You've heard of them all, but I haven't.

The eye of Fatma? Never heard of it.

Is this is true then you really do need to look around more and have a little more curiosity about the world. I don’t want to diminish you but it’s a really common sight almost everywhere. Turkish people in London hang it on their homes and in shops and on keys, it’s everywhere.

I think the PP doesn't believe in it as such, but knows that a lot of people do, and that they get very upset when things happen like getting burned by the wax.
The harm comes from misinterpreting this as a malevolent sign from the World of Woo and starting a thread on here to ask for guidance.

Phatgurslyms · 14/08/2025 12:29

viques · 14/08/2025 11:55

Oi! I am manifesting those. Paws off please.

i once tried to manifest becoming a millionaire. I didn’t quite make it but that year I won a six figure sum. I need to do it again but am not sure it can happen twice, can it?

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 14/08/2025 12:31

RimTimTagiDim · 14/08/2025 11:37

Most people stop that by the age of about 11...

How miserable. Whether you believe in what the OP is saying or not, giving up stuff like wishes and birthday candles just because you deem yourself "too old now" is kind of sad.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2025 12:31

Well, I used to live in Harringay in north London, where there are countless Turkish shops, and I never noticed an Eye of Fatma anywhere.

I daresay that's because I don't know what it looks like, though.

Kreepture · 14/08/2025 12:34

OP

Practising witch of 25+ years here.

If you take the symbology of it 'you'll get your fingers burned' if you don't keep to what the spell means to you'

I think it was both a karmic warning and sealing it.. it can be both.

I can't say i've ever reused spell candles though tbh, i would have used another one for the lionsgate portal.

MrsHiggins1 · 14/08/2025 12:35

If you genuinely believe a candle going out because of a draft, or wax dripping on your hand, are supernatural signs, that’s not just a quirky way of looking at life, it can be a sign of delusional thinking.

The tricky part with delusions is that they can feel completely real to the person having them, which can make it hard to consider that they might be false or to seek help. But they are still false, and if they’re left unchallenged, they rarely shrink. They often grow, taking up more of your thoughts and starting to affect other areas of life.

Sometimes these beliefs are part of something bigger, like psychosis, which can also involve memory gaps, being told you did or said things you can’t remember, or seeing and hearing things you believe are real but that others don’t experience.

The danger with fixed false beliefs is that they don’t stay contained. You can end up ignoring real issues because you’re focused on the imagined one, damaging relationships by acting on suspicion or paranoia, or putting yourself in unsafe situations. In more serious cases, people can start ‘taking instructions’ from whatever they believe is communicating with them, whether that’s a voice, a sign, or a feeling. If those ‘instructions’ involve doing something dangerous, illegal, or harmful, the person might follow them because they’re convinced it’s the right thing to do.

That’s how a belief that feels harmless now can escalate into something that causes real harm to you or to the people around you. For your own safety, and the safety of others, it’s worth getting checked out by a professional before it gets to that point.

a) why? what would witchcraft bring to your life?

b) but in any case, it doesn't exist

Yes, children blow out their candles.
I've never seen an adult's cake with candles on it.

I've never seen or heard of knocking on wood.

You've never seen an adults cake with candles on it? Seriously? Definitely normal round here.

If you can’t look up at a star and make a wish on it, that’s sad for you. Please don’t call me stupid or suggest I’m going to sign up to a pyramid scheme just because I find joy in something that you can’t. Lots of people find joy in gardening like yourself, I don’t and that’s ok ☺️

you are a witch and have no herb and simple garden? For shame, for very shame.

Juniperberry55 · 14/08/2025 12:38

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/08/2025 11:47

Eh?

I don't do either of those things.

What!? Next you'll be saying you don't believe in Santa or the tooth fairy either 😂 you heathen

People do like seeing patterns in things, so deciding they manifested something when it comes true, but then ignoring all the times when it doesn't happen. It can indeed be harmful to make decisions like believing in spells to cure your money saving issues, you need to sit down, budget, try to find a new job, wishing your money problems will resolve themselves with a spell takes personal responsibility out of it.

I gave you the link to the meaning.
You lived in one of the largest communities of Turkish Cypriot diaspora in London.

i can show you again but at some point you have to start taking responsibility for your own knowledge. Set an intention, make a wish 😂

The purpose of these evil eyes is to PROTECT FROM HEXES 😂 but yeah Im the mad one

ftr, spellwork is simply a form of prayer. witches just use the earth, sun, moon..etc energy as it all ebbs/flows over the lunar and earthly calendar to choose when/how to do certain 'prayers'

The 'stuff' like candles is just to help visualisation and set intention and purpose.. most spellwork, like prayer, is all about intention and requesting something of the world.

That eye is all over a lot of stuff in Turkey, i have loads of things from the Dalaman region, including the little Indalo Man that has the Eye on them. My fave thing is a set of beads with them on.

I’m not a gardener. I’m disabled so I’d struggle with my particular needs and it isn’t really my thing but I do have a gardener. I actually don’t mind wasps that much and I appreciate how incredibly important they are to the ecosystem but I’d just received my first ever sting that day hence the user name.

There’s plenty of wonder to be found in the beauty of the real world. There’s no need to make up harmful nonsense and yes your “spells” are about as logical as pyramid schemes.

Don't be a jerk. It's no stupider than prayer and is in fact pretty much the same thing. Yes, I'm sure you're about to tell me you're offended by prayer too but the point is it doesn't matter what you think. I doubt you'd look for Muslims or Jews writing about their faith to tell them off. So don't do it here. Live and let live. Nobody is hurting you. It is not harmful and it is not nonsense.

Acinonyx2 · 14/08/2025 12:43

I don't get why this sort of thinking is any different from all the other stuff like astrology and religion etc. Some people are just prone to 'beliefs' - that's my belief anyway. When has saying any belief is rubbish actually got anyone anywhere. I'm not prone to beliefs but they are interesting. Some of the Wiccan rituals are fun. And having lived in Turkey - I have an Eye of Fatima hanging in my kitchen.
