Witches - spell help

Hey, looking for some advice as in all the years of spell work I have never had this happen before.

i did a spell on the full moon, all very well intentioned, to help me save money. I lit a candle in a special place to me, set my intention, and the candle blew out quite quickly. It was near a window, so I took it to mean spell completed ie wish made.

i took the candle home and lit it again later on the lionsgate portal night to strengthen my resolve. The wax kind of dripped on to my finger and burned me a lot. I’ve never had that happen before. I looked it up and some say it’s a warning (what can it be warning me about, it’s literally just to make me save money 😂) or - very differing view - the spell needed some kind of karmic or energy payment from me, and I “paid” with the burn to add strength and resolve to the spell.

any thoughts? I’ve done this a long time and never cast bad or ill intentioned spells so I don’t know what this was about! Has someone hexed me?

blessed be x

It's sad to think the only joy in life comes from making wishes and indulging in woo. I have much richer sources of enjoyment in my life!

Who's said anything about it being the "only" joy? You can find joy in all kinds of things.

@NeverDropYourMooncup Okay, I’m interested in this side of the debate.

So you're saying that when you have a belief in your personal safety in a car you aren’t scared (big cats in zoo example). Fine.

When you are trapped in a room with a shouty boss or walking along a dark alley worried about a stalker, your brain fires up its “prehistoric human” parts and you can’t control those reactions as they are hard-wired into your evolutionary make up. Fine.

I can accept all of that.

But why wouldn’t my dh be afraid of being stalked or a shouty boss or seeing a life-sized sabre tooth in a dimly-lit museum? He is definitely not afraid of stuff like this.

I guess he would be afraid of a real threat - someone waving a loaded gun in his face and threatening to kill him.

Why do we have different perceptions of threats? (Genuine question, looking to learn).

I wasn't 'afraid' of it. The shape of the skull, the eye sockets, the fact it was cat shaped, was triggering an instinct and biochemical responses to that that made it impossible to cross in front of it. I could walk behind it, look at it, everything - but my body would not let me walk across what would have been line of sight and within about 15 foot on it. Which is probably the instant kill zone distance.

Maybe your DH would have a reaction to an actual threat, or maybe he'd be completely oblivious and get robbed; the lazy comparison there would be wartime, some people don't have the same instincts and are killed where others aren't (it's obviously not the whole reason people live or die, I'm not saying that, but sometimes, it's the instincts and not the intellect that does it).

Maybe his reaction to a shouty boss where he is desperate for the salary would be anger instead, even though it could get him fired. That's also the instinct and biochemical responses working.

You can, which is why it makes no sense to feel sad for me because I don't find joy in superstitious nonsense.

This nonsense is harmful, not innocent at all.

Aha maybe that was the burn. 😀

Should you be casting spells for personal gain? You're lucky it was just your finger that got burnt.

I love this OP.

Ignore the haters! People like to dismiss things they don’t believe in and portray you as ‘potty’.

I don’t really do spells but I collect crystals.
I believe in signs from the universe too, angel numbers etc.

I think I’d take it as a good sign it burnt you(not sure why it had to burn, but maybe it was a sign it’s going to work) , there’s nothing negative in what you were wishing for anyway so I wouldn’t worry.

Isn’t that what anyone would do?

Shes not harming anyone, she’s trying to attract money.
Nothing wrong with that what so ever.

Shes not trying to curse somebody else to have no money!

You would be better off watching Martins money programme or other videos on saving money. Rather than lighting candles and getting burned by hot wax.

Peter the Purple Pixie certainly doesn’t live in your garden. It founds like a very dry environment for pixies 😂

I thought if you use spells to benefit yourself, there is a payment to be made. That's why I've heard its advisable not to use spells that directly benefit the witch casting the spell. Dark magic and similar.

nope, that's a load of tv invented bullshit. hth.

Starbri8 · 15/08/2025 18:16

Hi OP , don’t read too much into it , I have a little money spell , “ money, wealth riches abound
find your way to me safe and sound , fill my wallet and pockets full , banish debt with the harm none rule. Repeat x 3 , so mote it be, good bye poverty !
I think it’s helped many times , as you know a spell is just an intention sent to the universe, we are all connected.
many psychics have looked at my palm and I seemingly have a very strong witches mark / healers mark . I dip in and out and DH humours me 😂 all my kids were bathed in bath water infused with parsley on their first birthday for protection ( that one came from my grandmother , with the incantation all through your life protected be , health happiness and wealth so mote it be !!

Research the origins of your own religion and take your own accounts before you quote this nonsense under someone else’s belief you bigot.

MrsDoubtfire1 · 15/08/2025 18:24

Is mumsnet really the place for your magical practice? Could you not find a social media group where the group focus on your beliefs? I get the impression that you are dealing with a lot of detail and reading a lot into meanings. Let things develop on their own and look for signs and signage to find your way.

So blood money spells are ok then?? Forget the magic but if one did work, its rather unethical. Only my opinion though.

No, only if it was at another’s expense.

Wishing for fortune to benefit herself is not dark magic.
Dark magic is involving others for her own needs I.e wishing for a specific person who is married etc.

Jim Carey years ago wrote a Million pounds on a blank check and manifested it to become real.
He didn’t do dark magic just by wanting to better himself.

SunlitUpland · 14/08/2025 11:25

I do not know anyone, of any religious/spiritual persuasion, and of however limited intelligence, who would think that a drip of candle wax meant someone had hexed them.

Agree - not going to comment on someone's intelligence but come on - a drip of candle wax means nothing

Yes, children blow out their candles.
I've never seen an adult's cake with candles on it.

I've never seen or heard of knocking on wood.

How miserable. There should always candles on a birthday cake, thems the rules.

What a bunch of dull Debbies on this thread! So cynical and switched off to magic, their loss. That said, I’d not read too much in to the wax burn, molten wax be hot. I hope your spell works. I’ve had good success with spell jars, and signs that align with me being the on the right track - I picked an ancient, mostly empty exercise book that had belonged to my nan to be my grimoire, turned to the first empty-ish page where there were a series of dates, the last one was eighty years to the day ago, written by my great grandad (great grandma was a witch), so I wrote my plan for my spell there - a perfect example of synchronicity and the wisdom of the universe.
