Anyone around... scared

I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

Good luck. I hope you are seen soon. Wishing you a speedy recovery

BluebellsRoses · 08/08/2025 00:14

I'm praying for you that you'll get seen and get the medication that you need quickly, and that all will be well. 💐

Good Luck OP. I hope your are feeling better soon

Piknik · 08/08/2025 00:16

Hopefully you'll be seen quickly and loaded up with antibiotics. I forget how amazing they are until I have to take them again. You could be feeling miles better this time tomorrow OP. Hold that thought and everything crossed.

Wiltingasparagusfern · 08/08/2025 00:17

You have sepsis!!! Go to the hospital

TimeForABreak4 · 08/08/2025 00:22

I hope they take you through quickly. When my dd had sepsis they took her through and had her on iv antibiotics within minutes after she was triaged, which was also done within minutes. They don't mess around if they think it's sepsis.

TheUsualChaos · 08/08/2025 00:22

Definitely sounds likely to be sepsis. When I had it, I felt better really quickly once they got me on IV antibiotics. When you get to hospital tell them you think you have sepsis. Unfortunately it does still get overlooked sometimes.

OliveWah · 08/08/2025 00:23

I've only just found your thread @DarkSuitsSadSongs, but as someone who has beaten SEPSIS twice, I'm very glad to read that you're either en route to A&E or there already! I'm sure you'll be seen quickly, and once you start treatment you'll start to feel much better quite quickly. Well done for doing all the right things!

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 08/08/2025 00:24

I've just checked in. I mentioned that I was worried about sepsis.

I've never seen our small accident and emergency so busy before. There are no chairs, there's 4 police officers with 2 different men, a woman bleeding through her bandage on her head an onto the floor and a teen lying on their side clutching their side on the floor.

I think I'm in for a long night.

Sorry to hear it’s so busy. I hope it goes quicker than expected. At least you are in the right place. Sending hugs!

L0bstersLass · 08/08/2025 00:28

Good luck. You're in the right place.
Don't underplay your symptoms when you're being triaged. Don't put a brave face on it. Show them openly how unwell you are.

HateLongCovid · 08/08/2025 00:29

If you start to feel worse do let the nurses know. Best of luck OP 🌻

Call for an ambulance.

She’s already at A&E!

Headabovetheparapets · 08/08/2025 00:31

Glad you’ve arrived @DarkSuitsSadSongs sorry to hear it’s a busy night. if you start to feel worse don’t be afraid to go back to the desk & say so. They might not like it but they will need to pass it on to triage & won’t want you collapsing in the waiting room. Sending hugs xx

Piknik · 08/08/2025 00:32

Agree that you need to keep them posted on how you are progressing/symptoms are developing.

Don't be embarrassed to tell them that you have deteriorated since you arrived. Point out that your GP put you on antibiotics today as there was already a question mark around infection, and be clear that you are worried about sepsis.

A wound bleeding through a bandage might look more dramatic but actually, is unlikely to be as urgent as an internal infection. Advocate for yourself OP. Good luck.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/08/2025 00:37

Glad that you're at the hospital, OP, and hope you won't have to wait long. Sending good vibes to you.

VegemiteOnToast · 08/08/2025 00:38

Hope you are OK OP. Definitely sounds like it could be sepsis.

Flowergirlie91 · 08/08/2025 00:38

Glad to hear you made it to A&E. Hope they will tend to you very soon. Keep them up to date with changing symptoms / if your condition gets worse, and make sure you’re sitting in a visible position where nurses/ doctors can see you. You’re in a safe space now and I hope you’ll feel much better quickly, you’ve done the right thing xxx

PlayingDevilsAdvocateisinteresting · 08/08/2025 00:40

You have done all the correct things @DarkSuitsSadSongs, and you are in the right place if you faint or anything. I am very hopeful that you are already high up on the triage list OP, but I would let the reception desk know that you are feeling even worse, every 15 minutes or so, if you still haven't been called in. I'm sending you a big, but gentle hug, and positive energies. xxxx

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 08/08/2025 00:41

I just heard the receptionist saying to someone that there's a 2hr wait for triage sadly and that all ambulances are being sent to the bigger hospital 45 minutes away because they are so busy.

I definitely picked the worst night to be poorly it seems.

BobbiBrownJones · 08/08/2025 00:42

I’ve had sepsis and I went into septic shock. If you start shivering and feel cold you have to alert the staff immediately. Don’t be fobbed off. I mean it.

When you are triaged, please mention sepsis again. Make sure you tell them how awful you feel because feeling like you’re dying is a sign of sepsis too.

If you feel any worse, get someone’s attention. Especially if you stop weeing.
