I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

Sorry again, should have linked @godmum56 . Doh.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 09/08/2025 22:42

I have a new nurse for the nightshift. She is equally lovely. Just checked and changed my dressing. She said she thinks it might be ready to pop again as it looks ripe and my pain has been building again. So I've had the morphine injection and changed into a gown so the gunk doesn't go on my new pyjamas.

They've been given me laxido since admission for any constipation so I've not suffered so far.

Fingers crossed for you to have a good night 🤞💐

anyolddinosaur · 09/08/2025 22:51

If it pops again I hope it lets you get a decent sleep first.

Lougle · 09/08/2025 22:52

@DarkSuitsSadSongs I do hope that it pops spectacularly so you don't need it drained. You're really going through it.

Yetmorewifework · 09/08/2025 22:53

I'm glad you are getting the good meds and your nurse has been proactive in saving your nice new PJ's!
I loved those fully adjustable hospital beds too when I was in, I managed to get comfy and a good sleep for the first time in months when I was admitted the other year. I'm wondering if you are in my region from what you've said about the distances etc. and the white pudding supper.
Our NHS up here is great, they do really look after you. As others have said, take the strong meds if they're prescribed for you, they're not handing them out like sweeties!
Have a good sleep and let them look after you.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/08/2025 22:56

@DarkSuitsSadSongs Ive also been following. So glad you’re on the mend.

What a nice supportive MN thread. Hope you get a decent night’s sleep OP.

I feel for you, @NovaF. I have a friend with HS and she gets really dreadful episodes of it that seem to go on for months. It took a few years for hers to be diagnosed.

It is awful! If your friend still gets it tell her to cut out oat milk/ gluten. I saw someone privately and after being the worst it ever was it calmed down after a few days. I have not had a flare up in 2 years, it is related to blood sugar. Truly would not wish it on anyone! Thanks for the kind words ❤️❤️

My ex had this and the weight loss drug montjaro cured it. He was in agony for well over 28 months when obese but now he's slimmer the pockets no longer form. Look up GLp1 receptors.

I have had this disease for more than 30 years. The constant abscesses and draining ruined my mobility and I put on a lot of weight. Lost 3 stone by myself and then started Mounjaro last November. Have now lost 10 stone, my skin is the worst it has ever been. Not unusual for HS sufferers to go into remission, sadly for me it hasn’t happened.

May I ask something? (Feel free not to mower!) … you’ve had these before, right - I thin’ you mentioned that? How does one get those abscesses - or rather avoid getting them?

Yetmorewifework · 09/08/2025 23:11

@Saz12 have you tried making stuffing with the white pudding? Slosh of single malt and stewed apple, plus I think it was a wee bit of garlic my mil got me to put in them. Get your white pudding from a butcher's or it's a waste of good whisky...

murasaki · 09/08/2025 23:35

Yay for the good drugs. I hope you get a good sleep.

DuchessDandelion · 09/08/2025 23:43

Very pleased to read you're on the mend op and how nice it is to hear of a good husband, doing good husband-y things - makes a refreshing change on this site!

mummymetalhead · 10/08/2025 00:01

I’m so so glad you’re on the mend! I was genuinely really worried about you when you first posted so it’s lovely to read your updates.
I hope you get a good nights sleeps!

JFDIYOLO · 10/08/2025 00:03

Sleep well. Enjoy being cared for and it sounds like you can be confident your husband will be stepping up at home too.

Comtesse · 10/08/2025 00:30

Makes you thankful for modern medicine really. This is a nasty episode today - a hundred years ago pre anti-biotics it would have been completely life threatening.

Tortielady · 10/08/2025 01:09

I'm pleased you decided to go with the morphine. If you didn't need it, you wouldn't be written up for it, so there's no point in being a hero - you'll be off it soon enough and at home with a supply of prescription painkillers. You need time for your pain levels to settle down of their own accord, which is what these things give you - and they allow you to be more or less comfortable and functional while you wait for that to happen.

ImustLearn2Cook · 10/08/2025 01:20

@DarkSuitsSadSongs So glad to read your updates and see that you’re getting better and the nurses and doctors have taken such good care of you. And your DH has been so wonderful and thoughtful. 🌈🌺🌼🌸😄

Mistyglade · 10/08/2025 01:51

I’ve been reading your thread, I’m so glad you’re ok, it’s been like a mini episode of Casualty. Get well soon FlowersFlowers

MarxistMags · 10/08/2025 03:21

@meercat23 yes they are, except mealie puddings are more claggy.

Zonder · 09/08/2025 15:09

DH is bringing me a white pudding supper from the nearby Chippy for my dinner at 6pm.

What is that? I'm intrigued!

I had white pudding at a Scottish wedding, I think it is vile 🤣. I love black pudding though

MrsPerfect12 · 10/08/2025 09:48

I hope you night has been calm and you
got some sleep.

DetectiveDouche · 10/08/2025 10:04

Thinking of you OP. And hope it wasn't too traumatic if it's burst again overnight.

JFDIYOLO · 10/08/2025 10:16

How are you this morning? See how invested we are now 🥺
