Most ridiculous comment you’ve read on MN?

Along the lines of that “overheard in Waitrose” trend a few years ago, “No, no Tarquín can’t have the regular avocados he’s allergic, he can only eat the organic ones”….Overheard on Mumsnet…what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever read?

@ballardzWhat on earth did you say to your MIL? I’d be fuming if my child was left hungry

She always serves that much when it comes to pizzas. To be fair, I just make sure my children are fed (preschooler and toddler for me) so will give them two slices each even if it means the adults have one slice, and get them cheese, etc from the fridge. I used to be polite and not take too much but after seeing my SIL take the last bit of whatever food for her son when he had already eaten loads and mine had little, I’ve stopped caring about being polite and just ensure my children are well fed (bit of a history there in case it’s not obvious!).

@Phoebesparrow

None of it? Not the wraps/ salads/ desserts anything?

I don't mind the ice cream but I never get round to buying one
I've not had one in about 10 years lol
Its nothing against maccies but when you work with it,you don't want to eat it

Tbh I'd use one chicken breast if I were making fajitas for just me and DH. But I also use lots of onion and peppers, and make a huge side salad. Happy to be a weird outlier though Grin

I often use just one for me and dh, in e.g. a stir fry with lots of veg and noodles.

That apparently one pizza can feed two adults and three teenagers if you bulk it out with coleslaw. How miserable.

One portion of fish and chips feeds FOUR and you bull it up with salad. That's plenty of food apparently.

Glad it's not just me! But I guess the key point is the other ingredients. I can see how fajitas with one chicken breast and just sauce would be a really dull meal not enough food for 2.

Did she mean curtains are old fashioned and everyone has blinds instead, or she literally had bare windows?!

Or was she talking about net curtains?

I was on a thread where some of us bereaved parents were chatting a few years back.

Two of my children have died, almost 10 years apart, from different things.

One poster had a massive go at me, called me selfish for having more kids as there was clearly something genetically wrong (this poster had no idea what my children died from), other posters jumped to my defence thankfully, but the poster said if they got banned they would just keep reregistering and following me about to berate me because her parents ruined her life with some genetic thing apparently. It was very odd.

I did name change though and do very regularly now, just in case.

Fucking hell - some people deserve banning!!

So sorry you went through this

All of MN children seem to love salad , crudités and hummus. My own kids are teens and have never eaten that....i dont think thry are an anomaly IRL - we had a BBQ recently and invited several other families with teens and I can confirm none of them went near the massive salad! (We had to eat it as leftovers for days!)

A thread where someone was asking if it was okay to give their kid something like a ham sandwich for breakfast as they hated all ‘normal’ breakfast foods, and someone commented ‘don’t be ridiculous, you need to teach them proper breakfast food’.

i was so desperate to comment that they should try visiting…pretty much anywhere that isn’t the UK or America to review what classes as ‘proper breakfast food’ but I resisted.

We were at an Italian hotel that mainly catered for German guests. The buffet breakfast was heavy on cold meats and cakes.

They are all tall and lean and play sports at a professional level whilst being incredibly academic too.

Oh god, this and the slightly lecherous descriptions of daughters “with legs that go on for miles” - why would you ever type something like that about your own 13 year old? Envy

That’s a very good example of the showboating that goes on with MN, and TBF, all over the internet. Here, instead of Insta pouts it’s hints about the poster being the best and most capable mother and the family being perfect. Usually with a middle-class flavour.

Husbands are high earners, all meals are super healthy (no McDonalds - EVER!), children are academic high achievers and eat TONS OF SALAD (teenage sons are all six-foot-two and skinny), the family goes on carefully researched trips to wonderful camp sites in France (“Center Parcs is sooo grim”).

It’s all quite pathetic. Makes for giggles though.

And that one chicken can last a week. I remember that one 🤣

Don't. I live alone and bought a chicken last week which turned out to be larger than I'd thought. I ate the fucker for six days straight before I had to throw the rest away. I now don't care if I never see another chicken again, and my neighbour's hens are not exempt.

The most recent one that made me laugh...OP posting link to New Look dress, should she wear this to such and such, so ballpark figure dress must cost £30-50...first reply says it looks terrible, try this and sends link to dress costing over £450.00!!

I saw that and also thought how bloody ridiculous.
Plus the very expensive dress looked like a bin bag with a frill.

IAmTheLogLady · 04/08/2025 10:04

I remember a thread a while back where the op was annoyed because someone had picked the same party venue that her dd had the year before.
She was especially annoyed because her dd was having another party there but it was after the other girls party. This would take the shine off her dds party apparently.
Most people were sensible and told her she was overreacting.
Some people however were hoping that the other girl would have a horrible party. It was absolutely bonkers. I can't believe how precious people can be.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 04/08/2025 10:07

The softzilla threads that were all fake anyway.

And personally for me I once posted something factual about my family situation. Another poster told me I couldn't possibly say if that was the case (it was and there was decade's worth of evidence, too much to mention). They were so insistent about it, like why did I think I would I be the authority on something in my own family, rather than some internet random.

What were the softzilla threads. I don't think I remember those ?

My teens would agree. All three sleep with their curtains open. I find it bizarre.

If I sleep with my curtains closed I will sleep indefinitely! I need my body to start waking up with the sun.

I have also been known to sleep with the lights on in winter.

StarlightLady · 04/08/2025 10:19

Way back l remember a poster saying that having sex in the same house (not same room!) as a sleeping child was child abuse.

Oh blimey, it started off with a semi plausible AIBU about two mums meeting at soft play and for some inexplicable reason the other mum expected the OP to pay for herself and her child. Understandably the OP refused.

Then it very quickly descended into multiple threads spanning stalking, harassment, police patrols, solicitors letters a upcoming court case (for what nobody knew) and I think even talk of witness protection. Throughout all this the OP couldn't really say anything because the police/lawyers had advised her not to do just breadcrumbed lots of hints and it took off.

All of this happened in the space of about two weeks too.

ETA: anyone who dared to pipe up and question the logic and likelihood of the above would get torn to pieces by a group of self appointed cheerleaders for the OP and it regularly got nasty.

Oh it was all bollocks but people fell for it along with that other thread about the garden theft I think the Op lived in an apartment and she had her own private garden and a neighbour had patio doors installed that lead out to her garden something like that.

Spangran, her Spanish grandmother flew in for moral support and to watch out for the returning neighbours while OP was at work. Enjoyable nonsense. Ran to 4 threads at least.
