Along the lines of that “overheard in Waitrose” trend a few years ago, “No, no Tarquín can’t have the regular avocados he’s allergic, he can only eat the organic ones”….Overheard on Mumsnet…what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever read?

I forgot about the loon, who told me that when I was sexually assaulted at work she didn't believe me (retail)

Fine,I don't care when a random on the net thinks as I know I was telling the truth (and so did the police as it was caught on cctv) but she then went on to tell me I should get my manager to follow me around all shift to protect me

I'm a fully grown woman and my work would laugh me out of the building if I suggested this-my own personal bodyguard!

Another one when I commented about teens having sex in our toilets (happens more than you'd think) told me we should have 3 members of staff (one for each loo, gents, ladies and the disabled) standing guard outside the door to make sure that didn't happen!

We are unbelievably short staffed anyway but I can just see the owners face if she was to pay 3 staff members to stand outside the loo doors for 8 hours each shift, just giving permission to select members of the public to go for a wee (I'm not sure if this was just for the core hours of say 9am-9pm or 24 hours a day,nor how would we judge who was 'acceptable' and who wasnt)

Made me laugh at the time

There was a poster who asked for cosy book recommendations for her elderly Mother. One, incredibly odd, poster took umbrage to this and asked why the poster’s Mother couldn’t share her reading tastes and suggested that the OP’s Mum couldn’t possibly have any empathy just because she liked to read gentle books.

It was completely batshit and I remember one poster saying something like “She isn’t going to invade Poland just because she’s read Maeve Binchy!

I remember that one, that poster was way beyond odd. However, the Maeve Binchy comment was priceless.

Pretty much every single one of OP’s comments in this thread are astonishing…

Goodness, that thread is wild 🤯

Crikey that is a very strange one!

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 03/08/2025 22:51

a lot of these comments are reminding me why I have AIBU hidden. The site is a lot less mad that way (although now I have FOMO)

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 03/08/2025 20:46

How has no one mentioned the lady who thought dinosaurs were a hoax yet?

I had forgotten that one! Is it still active I wonder....

Snap!!

Someone advising a poster who was on a diet not to eat a raw carrot as a snack as they were far too high in sugar.

Someone said they only eat peas twice a year as a special treat, because they were too carby for every day life.

that is excellent. what the heck does this person eat day to day? massive salads I expect

stillheretoday · 03/08/2025 23:35

The random ‘how much do you earn’ threads and the first 10 posts are from people with huge salaries and investments - none of which I believe.

babytum · 03/08/2025 23:51

The recent thread about the promissory note. OP and husband had the car serviced for free by someone they knew. Were charged £30 for something and she took serous offense to this. Ignoring the fact she had just saved £200 plus in normal garage fees.
Conceded to the fact she was AIBU but instead of giving the poor guy the cash was adamant that a promissory note was as valuable as cash. Absolutely no way was she going to be told otherwise. So funny

Was it grapes that were “little bombs of sugar” and therefore totally unsuitable for children? 🤣

There was somebody else (probably the same thread, it was about packed lunches) who felt that if you feed a child an apple, it has so much sugar in it you might as well give them a mars bar. And of course sandwiches were deemed even worse, far too carby and full of UPFs.

I’m not entirely sure what you are meant to send your kids in with on school trips if fruit and sandwiches are out.

I once saw a poster argue til she was blue in the face that slander was a criminal offence. She had a law degree apparently

Defamation and libel covers some types of slander

tothelefttotheleft · 04/08/2025 00:58

@Phoebesparrow

None of it? Not the wraps/ salads/ desserts anything?

ButteredRadish · 04/08/2025 01:37

That Radishes are ‘junk’ because they come in plastic packets 🤨🤦🏼‍♀️

ButteredRadish · 04/08/2025 01:39

Oh and that “single mums have made their bed, they need to lie in it…..”

Sparklybutold · 04/08/2025 01:41

Women shouldn’t have babies if they choose to have a CS. Or CS isn’t a ‘real’ birth.

At my in laws at the moment.

I am being completely serious that for lunch the other day, my MIL served two supermarket pizzas and one garlic baguette with one huge salad for 5 adults and 3 children (well one is a toddler). People like that do actually exist.

@ballardzWhat on earth did you say to your MIL? I’d be fuming if my child was left hungry

Fizbosshoes · 04/08/2025 07:25

In one of the many threads about either
How vile/grim/awful ensuite bathrooms are or
Whether anyone is allowed to poo in the house/ensuite/same town as them

...a poster said she didn't really like her DH brushing his teeth in their ensuite bathroom! Confused

mrschocolatte · 04/08/2025 07:46

@Pep12per If this is the thread I think it is, in fairness that poster wasn’t recommending the OP should buy that admittedly hideous dress. She just said she had her eye on it and then got an awful ribbing from everyone else who misunderstood what she wrote. I did actually feel quite sorry for her in the end. Not for the dress she linked to though. It was awful.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 04/08/2025 07:58

Ah I was on that book recommendation thread! It was the stupidest thing ever. Some lovely recommendations then the absolute batshittery.
I think it was deleted, unfortunately.

Has anyone mentioned the poster who inherited a house (worth around £350K then - about 12 years ago) that had long term tenants. One poster was raging that the OP was not going to just gift the house to the tenants as it was their home!

A thread about Christmas budgets and amounts where someone who was looking down on others for buying 'too many Christmas presents for their kids' because she 'saves that money' for 'more important things' like her kids private school, her horse and ridding lessons and several annual holidays to immerse in far off cultures.

Yeah love, because if I save the 400 quid I spend on my 3 kids at Christmas I could clearly could have send them to fucking Eton instead 🙄.

Yes you see those threads quite often they like to gloat that they spend as little as possible on their kids at Xmas and sneer at those of us who can't afford private schools luxury holidays etc ,but try to save up for Xmas for the kids plastic " tat" it's always plastic tat they think we buy🙄

TheaBrandt1 · 04/08/2025 08:02

A woman that was adamant that none of her nor her sisters NT teens had ever been out unaccompanied until over 18. Parenting two social teens who have been out and about with mates since 13 my mind was blown!

Ballardz · 04/08/2025 08:14

DiaryofaProvincialLady · 04/08/2025 03:39

Oh dear......😂

To be fair, defamatory libel was a crime until about 15 years ago, so it’s not unreasonable for posters to not know the crime has been abolished.

@LadyCankleOfGrantham Depending on when that poster did her law degree, she would have learned that (though slander was never a crime, only libel).
