Along the lines of that “overheard in Waitrose” trend a few years ago, “No, no Tarquín can’t have the regular avocados he’s allergic, he can only eat the organic ones”….Overheard on Mumsnet…what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever read?

Your teens have never read/watched Salem's Lot, have they?

Noooo, I've spent decades trying to purge Salem's Lot from my mind and you have to go and bring it up. There goes my sleep for tonight 😂.

I once got bollocked for daring to buy a meal deal from the supermarket for my lunch

I was told I should make my own sandwiches and meal deals where a waste of money

I earn my own money and budget for my lunches

I also cannot bear sweaty sandwiches-which is what happens when I make my own (and believe me,I've tried everything to wrap them in) it doesn't help we don't have a fridge at work to store them in

I'm happy with my choices when it comes to lunch but this poster reacted like I'd wiped my arse on her cat

"wiped my arse on her cat" has finished me off 🤣🤣⚰️

Imagine,! A lot of posters were fairly sensible but some were way OTT saying the mother was chilling imagine asking Tesco if you could view their CCTV to track down the registration plate of a customer who you were worried about becsuse they had a crying newborn??
And then phoning social services with your " concerns"?

A more general one - anyone who suggests that the OP calling out appalling behaviour is actually worse than the person committing it, because that’s bad manners too 🙄 🙄 Usually coupled with that story about some king or duke drinking from a finger bowl to make his guest feel comfortable.

“Well yes, it WAS frightfully rude of your cousin’s new boyfriend to piss in the soup tureen. But a truly gracious host would have risen above it and acted like it was completely normal; perhaps taking a shit in the trifle to make him feel more comfortable.” Fuck off!!

Defamation and libel covers some types of slander

None of which are criminal offences.

JackJarvisEsq · 04/08/2025 21:27

I was declared a liar and a troll for having to shave my legs above the knee as apparently nobody does this 🤨

Goodness, that thread is wild 🤯

Reading through that poster's comments, they're clearly Autistic. That shines through, right through to not wanting to kiss her boyfriend because she thought it was disgusting.

I think that's right up there with ridiculous comments ,you can't go round diagnosing someone as clearly autistic based on a thread.

I suggest you click on Read all to read all and only the OPs comments on that thread. If you have any experience with Autism, it is very clear.

I did and as the parent of a severely autistic teenager i still think it's a ridiculous comment ,no one can diagnose somebody over the Internet based on a thread

I'm not making a formal diagnosis. But as someone who has ASD (or was diagnosed as Aspergers when the name was used) and have a lot of involvement in ASD groups, it's quite obvious. And I stand by that.

That doesn't make you an expert and I also have a lot of involvement in ASD groups .

There was a thread like this recently and someone posted a link to a thread where the OP had mentioned that there was a homeless man sleeping in her mums shed and her mums was understandably frightened and distressed by this. Rather than alarm at some stranger sleeping in your shed, cue lots of posters saying they would be going out with blankets, flasks of soups, tea and a sympathetic chat and thought it so unreasonable that the OPs mum wouldn't allow this stranger to basically set up home in her shed!

More recent ones was the thread at start of the year where the OPs daughter was on a night out in a different city. The daughter had briefly got lost coming out the pub toilet and wandered onto the street before being reunited with her friends in the pub. A complete non-event however the OP was now all set to drive down to this city, and book herself into a hotel to be "on hand just in case" but wouldn't be telling her daughter she was coming. Most posters were telling her she was being ridiculous however there were a large amount of posters telling her of course she should be going down, that she should be bringing her daughter home, having a good talking to her about alcohol use etc etc

Someone got a pasting on another thread today for complaining about a fellow train passenger having her stinking hairy armpits on display. Maybe sit next to someone on a train with your hairy upper legs on display @JackJarvisEsq (obviously refrain from shaving for a good while for the best effect). It will then be fully recognised by MN that this phenomenon does exist and is in fact a very good thing.

LetMeGoogleThat · 05/08/2025 15:13

That there is a resident expert on Till receipts and they cause an unholy delay in shopping. No amount of people could sway her, she knew better and did not hold back on the comments 😜

Lost minutes of my life reading that thread!

ChickalettasGiblets · 05/08/2025 16:15

The one I see time and time again on here is about delaying giving vaccines to their children or spacing them out, because some random information they found online is clearly more informed and sensible than anything a doctor or the NHS says 🙄

The most recent one of these I challenged said their kids couldn’t catch measles because they lived in a rural location LOL

BarilynBordeaux · 05/08/2025 16:28

OP: DH came home in a stinking mood, think something’s happened at work but he won’t open up yet. Very unlike him, how do I approach?

MN: stonewalling is abuse actually, are you sure he hasn’t been sacked because he’s been gambling? This is probably his mask slipping. Be very wary of this nasty prick op, have you done the freedom program yet?

😀. I remember someone saying that you couldn’t catch covid in church!

Edited to correct typo.
