Started the teens out the house back to school declutter.
And restarted the exercise regime after summer holiday lunch out
Need a productive house now, teens both in the thick of exams years. So it's sort of a new academic year, new us reset, in about 2 weeks the house will be clearer of clutter.

How about making some jus-rol cinnamon swirls, you can even tie string around them before you bake them to make them into little pumpkins.
Or make sock pumpkins. Both are easy and very cute.

I love autumn. It's so pretty with colourful leaves everywhere, jumpers warm soup and nice bread, at last some lovely rain.
I love Halloween decorations too, pumpkins, ghost stories and costumes.
I make dollshouses and autumn is typically the season when I start a new one. This year Im finishing a Halloween dollshouse and I make all the interiors myself, its such a joy when its cold outside.

Oo we don't have an apple tree but you just reminded me of the apple and cinnamon cupcakes and loaf cakes I made last year. Will now be making one this weekend!

Also agree re the weather. My wfh office window looks out over the garden and it's so nice watching the rain with a warm cuppa.

Oo could we have the recipe for your apple and cinnamon loaf cake please? 🍂

I second this! And the cupcakes please!

Ah I have found my people!

I absolutely love autumn: the beautiful leaves, apple crumble, Halloween, cosy nights in and starting the Christmas preparations.

We’re hosting a big Halloween party this year as the children are a bit older. I can’t wait!

We also host a bonfire meal for our close friends prior to our village’s Fireworks Evening. I can’t wait!

I decided to test the heating was working this morning, then I sprayed some autumn harvest fabric spray on the sofas and rugs and lit a pumpkin spice latte candle, house felt so warm and cosy!

Best time of the year!

sunshineandkindle · 05/09/2025 11:40

I've got my pumpkin spice wax melt burning 🍂

Tallisker · 05/09/2025 11:43

I used to live in a village that had a massive bonfire actually on Bonfire Night, no matter which day of the week it fell. On the run up you could chuck all your old rubbish on the bonfire - a lot of recycling got done by people taking stuff off for themselves. I got some trellis for my garden off the bonfire ☺️ The pub did a barbecue and had games in the function room. Started about 1830 so it was properly dark but all the children could join in. Then various men in the village managed the remains for days until it had burnt itself out. I miss village life. It really was a high point of the year.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of this completely pointless acorn cushion from Next!

Had the most perfect walk this morning - the sun was out but there was a slight chill on the breeze, my dog, who hates the heat, was visibly happier snuffling through the leaves, and we met four young squirrels gathering nuts.

Lovely thread. Autumn is my favourite season too.
i look forward to reading under the blanket every evening without feeling the guilt or pressure to be out doing something outdoorsy.

I also love a good reset, so swapping my summer wardrobe to warmer clothes, decorating the house ( I must admit to deep cleaning before I swap decorations too which makes me weirdly happy). Autumn recipes.

love, love, love Autumn

RaraRachael · 05/09/2025 15:37

Just been for lunch at our local garden centre which was beautifully decorated with scarecrows, toadstools and all things autumnal.

flossie93 · 05/09/2025 15:56

Sunny, chilly walks. Went to the woods today but it was still a bit warm for my liking.
Watching the leaves change and come down.
Lighting the fire every night.
Massive jumpers.
Warm baths after chilly walks.
A gothic/spooky book.

rubicustellitall · 05/09/2025 16:54

I love Autumn ..I especially love windy, rainy days. It feels really special coming home in the dark and shutting out the weather and putting the lamps on and getting into my robe It is so cosy. It has always been my favourite time of year. I know I am weird!

Hedjwitch · 05/09/2025 19:10

I could quite happily never see another plum or apple again!

Apple and cinnamon recipes for those asking. Hope the links dont come out too long. I make the cake recipe into a loaf cake.

I've been to town this morning and bought some mini pumpkin decorations. They are now looking lovely in a basket with some autumn leaves.

I also got a couple of jumpers in autumn colours. The autumn colours tend to suit my skin tone so I'm looking forward to wearing them and being nice and cosy.

Apple Crumble Cupcakes! - Jane's Patisserie

Light, soft, cinnamon sponges with apple, golden delicious crumble, cinnamon buttercream, and even more crumble.

Lidl have some lovely, light-up glass pumpkins and toadstools in their middle isle this week. Just under £6 and look nice on the coffee table.

I’m not an autumn person at all, but I’m trying to embrace it, and do some nice things;
Make apple strudel with apples from my tree
Make piccalilli or some nice chutney
Make an autumn wreath with things I’ve picked up on walks
Go for some nice dog walks on the coast while it’s still fairly pleasant
Have a Sunday roast in the pub with my best friend
Read lots of Daphne Du Maurier or atmospheric books in general

Can anyone recommend some classy potpourri in autumn scents/colours? I currently have some beautiful lavender stuff that is pink, purple and green, and I always have The White Company Winter potpourri which is pine cones, dried orange and cinnamon sticks towards Christmas. I don’t like overpowering artificial smells like you get from Dunelm or Home Bargains etc. Any ideas?

I absolutely know this makes me sound such a pretentious ponce but the pot pouri from Santa Maria Novella in Florence is untouchable and lasts forever. You can buy it online.
