What is cawl please?

It's a lovely Welsh stew of lamb, leek and root vegetables... just doesn't feel right in the summer... 🙂🥣

bit cliched but….walking through the fallen leaves, watching the leaves turn and see my dogs excitement when a leaf 🍁 falls in front of him (he was only a baby last autumn). Plus burgundy - my favourite colour ever (whether it’s in fashion or not). Red wine, strictly come dancing and cooking lovely stews and casseroles. I’m a definite autumn person.

Thank you for reminding me how much I love burgundy! Maybe from being an 80s teenager, but it's lovely, isn't it?

And seeing animals relate to the world in their special way is a gift too... ♥️

I can't wait! It's my absolute favourite season - no stressing about walking the dog at the crack of dawn before it gets too hot, the beautiful leaves, and all the wonderful things our allotment gives us. Our plum and apple trees are absolutely laden with fruit already- it will all be ready in a few weeks and I can start making jam and chutney. We've already had a lovely crumble from windfall plums but they'll be so much better in a week or two. Plus I can stop stressing about my ginger teenager going out with his mates and forgetting to top up his sunblock!

This Autumn will be special in a different way, we get to welcome our new puppy!! We lost our lovely old girl in June and I’m missing her so much. We decided to wait a couple of months before getting another, and it’s been hell, if I’m honest. Just can’t wait for those dog walks again, with a new fluff ball around, playing in the leaves.

this was me last year. Except I knew m I couldn’t last long without a pup to love after my old boy finally gave in last summer, so got the new puppy last August. It is a complete shock to the system gojng from old to baby and also dealing with the intense grief I felt at saying goodbye to my old warrior. But a year in and he’s a total pain in the arse as he’s a teenager, but by god he’s wonderful. Wishing you lots of cuddles, walks and love from your little puppy.

@stclementine

thank you for your lovely words… indeed the grief is intense, it is with me all the time, day and night.
However, I’m doing my best to get through to Sept/October and welcome some new paws to my clean floor🐾

Summer has been awful, I’m hoping that the new season with our new pupper will help me, as it has you x

I can't wait. The summers drag on here and they are hot and very humid (midwest US). AC bugs up my nose, and the mosquitos are a nuisance. I love the cobwebs and the mists of the Fall, and the colours of the leaves.

I had these gorgeous burgundy pixie boots in the 80s 🥹 😍

Ah thanks
I live in the North of Ireland, hence being unfamiliar with this Welsh dish

I’ve always loved autumn - but early autumn from mid November it is too dark, cold and rainy and dark when I leave and come home from work.

September always feels like the new year - I work in education and I’ve had school age children of my own for 27 years! I love to clean and refresh everything at the beginning of September ready for the cosy throws, warmer bedding (although maybe not at my current age..) and empty freezer ready for stocking up for Christmas and making winter batch cook meals.

I love autumn walks finding blackberries, conkers, sweet chestnuts and acorns. The light and leaves changing colour.

However, I will love even more this year because we’ve had a lovely summer where I am. It feels much nicer when the seasons are distinct and not just grey and blending into each other.

whisperedwish · 10/08/2025 10:01

Autumn is my favourite season 🍁 I find something to enjoy in all seasons, but I feel more spiritually at home in autumn. I love early autumn when the first cooler days arrive. I’m far from being a ‘snuggle’ person, I still walk round in shorts and flip flops and actually enjoy being slightly cold! I look forward to the days when i can throw open the patio doors and let the cooler air freshen the house. I don’t really decorate for autumn but I do change my cushions to my highland cow ones and my throws to beige and green tartan ones. When proper dark and colder autumn sets in around mid October I love going for long walks and seeing the leaves. Late August is my favourite time of the year because there’s are still a few weeks of summer left to enjoy before my favourite season starts!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/08/2025 10:06

While I’m not in a hurry for summer to be over, I do like autumn - season of mists and mellow soupfulness….

And all those substantial cold-weather soups are relatively cheap to make, with seasonal, locally grown veg, lentils, pearl barley, etc.
I dare say my feelings for autumn date back partly to childhood - the so-exciting run up to Bonfire Night (Halloween was hardly a thing then) and of course Christmas…

My Vinted favourites list at the moment consists of burgundy dresses, burgundy skirts, burgundy trousers, burgundy jumpers…..you get the pattern 🤣🍁🍁.

it is very lovely seeing the world through a puppy’s eyes and one I’d forgotten as my old boy was 13 when he died and a cynical old bastard like me!

By the end of summer, I'm suffering a severe Roast Potato Deficit... 🥲

Omg, I knew there was something missing from my life. 😛

I’ve always been an Autumn lover, I just love everything about it. Top faves are the food, stews, traybakes, Sunday roasts, soups, then crumbles and sponges for pudding.

When I was a child, I loved Bonfire Night, having a new winter coat and wellies, my cosy little bed and Christmas on the horizon.

Im an Autumn baby too, so maybe that has something to do with it. I like snuggling, I’m currently watching tv under various fleece blankets, with my PJs on, as I’m freezing. Bed is lovely too, we get to cuddle to sleep rather than DP flinging the quilt off randomly cos he’s too hot!.

This Autumn will be special in a different way, we get to welcome our new puppy!! We lost our lovely old girl in June and I’m missing her so much. Love this. Yes, autumn as a child with the thrill of Christmas approaching was magical ❤️

After a stressful day I came home and made Plum and cinnamon jam. The kitchen smells of autumn and Christmas. We now have 2 jars of blackberry and apple jam and 2 of plum in the pantry plus a tub of each to munch on with toast through the next few weeks. I’m feeling very hygge and autumnal 🍂🍁 despite the fact we’re heading back into a heatwave!

the80sweregreat · 11/08/2025 19:02

I done with this hot weather and it’s going on all week.
Bring on autumn and a bit colder.

I love Autumn it's my favourite season.I like the nights drawing in , lovely hearty warming casseroles, snuggly knitwear, cold ,crisp frosty mornings, lots of candles and fairylights.

spiderlight · 12/08/2025 08:39

@stclementine - so sorry for your loss and i hope your new arrival brings you comfort and a lot of joy. Please post pics!! We lost our beloved dog nearly two years ago and it absolutely destroyed me. We didn't last long before adopting another. I felt as if part of me was missing without a dog at my side.

‘Forever Autumn’ is a lifelong favourite song. I’m not really a Halloween fan, but last year for the first time I bought some autumny decorations like a felt garland and some coloured candles, and I can’t wait to get them all out. I found an adorable willow wreath for my front door which has felt fruit and a tiny felt harvest mouse.

Can’t wait to break out the boots and jumpers too, light the fire and switch the Aga back on 🥰

I’m still holding onto summer but as soon as it’s cooler and September then hello autumn and my autumn flag will be out! Two lots of homemade soup on the go today.
Has anyone seen all the Halloween bedding that’s out? I’m loving it but don’t go for seasonal bedding usually.

My Autumn decor
Wearing my autumn clothes
That first fancy autumnal latté
Making pumpkin soup
Making apple pie

This is my favourite time of the year and I'm so ready for it 🍂
I always find August disappointing as it's muggy and heavy and I'm just ready for that first little chill in the air
