I was reading a book that said that the most succesful people get up at 5am.

What do you think. What time do you get up at?

5am. I can debunk that theory.

Haha . The book said that people get their best ideas at 5am

I will try to get up at 5 during these summer holidays

Let's see how i do, tomorrow is day one

I'm predicting I'll be woken up by my dd wanting breakfast at like 8 or 9 😅

FancyCatSlave · 23/07/2025 22:03

I don’t, I’m a night owl. I’m good at 2am having not gone to bed.

Given free choice I am up at 10am.

Flumpflimpo · 23/07/2025 22:07

Im going to try it for a week and see if it does me any good.

In the summer it's the best time of day for dressing gown gardening!

Brightasarainbow · 23/07/2025 22:12

Mistaking correlation for causation.

Margaret Thatcher used to sleep 4 hours per night. Does that mean if I start to sleep four hours I'm more likely to become Prime Minister? No, because I would be a sleep-deprived mess with no critical thinking skills.

It's not too far a stretch that people with less sleep needs naturally, can use those extra hours to gain a business advantage.

Davros · 23/07/2025 22:55

5am? That’s the middle of the night. I wake up usually around 8am. There’s no reason to wake up earlier so why would I? To feel virtuous? I could just lie as no one would know. I have no qualms not getting up early and I’ve really noticed the puritanical attitude to being an “early bird” and how it’s supposed to be something marvellous getting up at god awful hours when you don’t have to. Not for me thanks 💤

NoraLuka · 23/07/2025 23:00

I used to get up at 5 am when the DC were toddlers, just so I could have some time to myself. They are late teens now but I still occasionally get up early because I like the early mornings when it’s just me and the cat. I’m not particularly successful at anything though!

Yetmorewifework · 23/07/2025 23:09

I'm a very successful person. I get up sometimes around 5 (if the dawn chorus wakes me), more often about 6.30. If I was up at 5 every day, I'd need to be heading to bed before 9pm. I need a good 8 hours sleep.
I'm not one of the most successful people in the world, but I doubt getting up at 5am would fix that!

DoingItForTheKids25 · 23/07/2025 23:12

My 4 year old gets up at 5am every day. His ideas usually involve eating chocolate before breakfast and going on the Switch before I've even had a cup of tea. My conclusion is that your hypothesis is disproved.

Zov · 23/07/2025 23:14

Not in a million years would I get up at that time. It's halfway through the night! I don't know anyone who does. Though I'm sure lots of posters on here will claim they get up at 5am, and that anyone who sleeps past 6.30am is a lazy slob.

Ive got up at 5am before for a job that had a long commute
So i dont think i will have any problem getting up at that time.

After reading that book, i am going to try it for a while

I’d happily get up at 5am if I can have a nap at 10.30…
I'm up at 6.30ish naturally - DS (toddler) tends to wake me at 6.15 which makes me feel horrible, but on days he sleeps through or I’m away then 6.30 is where my body clock sits.
5 is too early - I’m fine once up but I get so tired. I’m terrible at early nights though so 11pm is my usual bed time.

Chronic lack of sleep is associated with increased dementia risk, which she was affected by in her last years.

Not a great advert for combining being a lark and a night owl! Better to roll with just the one of them.

5am is too early for me in general. 6:30 onwards is more civilised.

Although there was a time I ran a 5:30am race before work which was cool. (I enjoyed flaunting my medal, "why yes, I did run a 5.3km race before coming to work today" GrinGrinGrinHalo"

xanthomelana · 23/07/2025 23:21

I get up at 3:30am and I’m in work for 5am. I do enjoy the quiet at this time because most sane people are asleep, I suppose it gives you time to think and I wouldn’t say I’m successful but I do plan my departments working day out at this hour and find it less stressful because I have time to think more. I should add I’m on annual leave this week or I’d be sleeping by now!

The best idea to have at 5am is to go back to sleep!

AuntMarch · 23/07/2025 23:30

5am is very early and I dont know why anyone would if they don't have to leave the house early, but it is when night does become morning in my book. It was the earliest I was willing to give in and get up when I had a toddler.

I've been toying with a 5.30 alarm myself though. It currently goes of at 6.15 but I'd really like to get some more exercise in my week, I'm just too done after work/feeding DC/homework etc.

mumoronegirl · 23/07/2025 23:39

5am only because I leave the house for work at 7am and have to wash and dry my hair, feed the dogs, get my daughter to and ready for school etc before I leave the house. Im not successful!

InMyHealthyEra · 24/07/2025 00:18

I’m often already at work by 5am but I’m mentally unavailable until roughly 8am. Regularly find myself standing there wondering what the heck I do in my job.

I don’t know how some people get up at 5am, throw gym clothes on and go straight out for a run or start working. I do wish I was that productive though, might try it.

isitmytime · 24/07/2025 00:25

i only get up at 5 am when I’m working at 7 I most definitely am not successful and don’t have any ideas going through my head! It takes me until about 10am and 5 coffees to even feel fully awake. Then I need to nap after work finishes.!
in my defence I lm a night owl and usually up until 0130/0200 so I don’t get a lot of sleep

NewJobNewMeNewLife · 24/07/2025 00:31

By almost all metrics I could be considered ‘successful’
I never see 5am unless I’m on my way to catch a flight OR I’m still up following on from partying the night before (probably 2-3 times a year)
I think the book is rubbish.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 24/07/2025 00:33

I used to get up at 5am when I worked 6am - 2pm shifts many years ago. As for best ideas at 5am, it was all I could do to work out how to fill the kettle and put the bread in the toaster at that ungodly hour. I was never remotely successful, I’m afraid!

GripGetter · 24/07/2025 00:44

I did that for a few months in a new job. It wrecked me, so I had to stop.
