Famous people you thought would be nice, but were tw*ts?

Have you met someone famous and they turned out to be a bit of a twat?

I once met Steve Coogan (who I thought was hilarious as Alan Partridge) who was a sexist, lecherous buffoon IRL.

I have never met him, but I am going to defend Michael Sheen.

He is beloved in his home town of Port talbot. It’s a very deprived area and he continues to quietly do a great deal of charity work, practical support to local organisations, promoting and defending the town.

i know a lot of people that knew him when he was younger and he is consistently reported to have been decent, kind - a good person. No side to him at all. He not superior to and happily chats to everyone.

His parents - just his mum now, are highly thought of and again, nice kind people who have always been well known and liked. No secrets in Port talbot!

I know so many people who either know him / knew him/ have met him etc and no one has ever had a bad word to say. And I do think it’s relevant that his parents are lovely people and he was well known to have been a lovely child and teenager.

That being said, he is passionate about his acting, and I can imagine him being a bit challenging to work with if he is a perfectionist!

Since this thread I have asked a few people who know him (this is a small country we live in and I'm only down the road in Abertawe!) and they have only said good things, including two people who worked directly with him on a production.

Chris Packham is an absolute sex pest @Pebbles16 wow I am surprised at this as I thought his autism meant he was uncomfortable around people, from watching his documentary!

@Pudmyboy he might be uncomfortable but he showed in very inappropriate ways back in the days in Southampton

I am glad to hear that. I spotted him in the street just last week near a theatre where he is appearing and I really wanted to stop him and tell him I admire him for putting his money where his mouth is and trying to help people.

How lovely about Cat Stevens.

Not a huge celebrity especially not now, but I used to be in a friendship group encompassing Tony Wright. He's amazing. Proper Yorkshire lad, down to earth, friendly, good fun and unassuming. Just wants to have fun but good values too.

I love Terrorvision. Tony is so down to earth 😊

It was his best friend’s stepdaughter. It was in his autobiography. Put me right off him. Along with the fact he was a member of the National Front.

Edited

Really ? That doesn't sound right. Thought he was very left wing.

WFHmutha25 · 26/07/2025 17:01

In his late 20s, Tomlinson was attracted to right-wing politics and, by his own account, was a member of the National Front for a period after Enoch Powell's April 1968 "Rivers of Blood" speech.[23] In the early 1970s, Tomlinson's political views shifted to the left. He was affected by the book The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists, which was given to him by the governor of the prison in which he was being held.[4]

Not exactly my interaction but I witnessed it. We were in the BA lounge at Heathrow waiting for our flight to Italy, I sat opposite DH who was buried behind his Grauniad.
Helen Mirren and her DH arrived and she sat next to DH. She looked incredible, amazing hair in a swingy cut, a peasant-style summer frock and gorgeous heeled gladiator sandals.
Her DH went to get drinks and an American woman rushed up and plonked herself down next to HM, saying abruptly are you Helen Mirren? She replied ‘why yes, yes I am’ and the woman started gushing excitedly at her. HM’s DH returned and she politely interrupted the fan to say sorry, but she had taken her DH’s seat. Fan stomped off.
I felt quite sorry for HM, she had been nothing but polite to a rather overbearing stranger.
It turned out we were on the same flight and on the plane our friend caught sight of her impressive diamond ring and whispered loudly to me ‘clock the rock!’ I did indeed. DH didn’t recognise HM at all but noticed her sandals. I can’t recall him noticing a woman’s footwear before or since.
But I wonder if the American woman thought HM was rude or standoffish - she absolutely wasn’t.

I’ve changed my view of Dame Judi Dench, since she was a bitch to me in my dream 🫣😉

I know what you mean. About twenty years ago I dreamt that Amelia Bullmore was horrible to me, and I've never been able to take to her since!

JackKillianthenighthawk · 10/08/2025 12:28

I used to work at airport in Car Rental so you'd occasionally get famous people hiring cars. The one who stood out to me was Mark Durden-Smith the TV Presenter. I was working in a small Portacabin in the Car Park. He was a little rude and a bit impatient picking up his car, slapping his paperwork on the desk, not really talking, he was going golfing, maybe in a hurry, maybe flight had been late. But when he came back he was the same didnt even bother coming into the Portacabin and threw the keys at me to catch, shouting in at me so he could get away. Just a vibe of being completely up himself, he stood out as the worst.

Vic Reeves came in very often to a bookshop I used to work in. Rude, entitled and his children were feral.

This kind of emphasises the everyone has a bad day sometimes point. My DS met VR on a station and he was completely charming and friendly and they had along conversation about art. Maybe if his kids were being feral he was at the end of his tether !

I have not become any fonder of Donald Trump since I was married to him in a dream and he was pleasant and reasonable.

Good job I wasn't drinking when reading that last post as it would have been a genuine spit all over keyboard moment! Grin

But the other poster saw him ‘often’ and was serving him (presumably) so I’d be inclined to think of her experience as saying quite a lot.

Ah I missed the 'very often' apologies. Maybe he was having an uncharacteristically good day when my son met him !

Bob Geldof. Rude, entitled and smelly. Eats his own ear hairs too.

My husband has met Vic Reeves a few times and said that he’s been an arsehole every time.

He has also met Nicole Kidman, and Michael Crawford - who were both lovely.

Has anyone met Hugh Grant?

I came across him with his wife in Burlington Arcade in Mayfair last year. I was with my seven and five year old who were excited to see the oompah loompah from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. He was very grumpy and declined to say hello.

I have family that work for the Royals and Prince Harry has always been awful! He is a spoilt, arrogant, idiot. People blame Megan but all she has done is allow him to reveal his true self to the public instead of the very carefully orchestrated palace PR!

@Themagicfarawaytreeismyfav I think I posted this upthread, but I have a friend who did a stint in royal protection when he was in the military. He wouldn’t have a word said against Diana, who he adored; but absolutely hated Harry and said he was vile!

I know this is hearsay but I was in a cafe and a group of people were chatting. He came up in the conversation and they said that in his circle he was thought of as a loser and that secretly everyone thought that Megan was way out of his league and that they couldn’t believe it when she fell for him.
