What water do you drink at home?

What water do you drink at home? Do you buy bottled water? Do you have a filter system? Do you have water delivery arranged?
With two active boys I noticed that lately we go through racks of bottled water and looking to change to either water filter like virgin or water2 or get a water dispenser. I haven’t done any research yet on any filters but worry if we install any it wouldn’t change how tap water tastes and we will still need to buy bottles.
Has anyone installed filter and happy with it after at least a year of use?

This is not a goady post at all but I just don't get fizzy water. I don't like tea or coffee so all I really drink is tap water or Vimto. Fizzy water just tastes like a really disappointing Sprite or R Whites to me 😀

I guess it's personal taste but I'm with you.... tastes as if someone has squirted a little spritz of perfume in it to me 😖

tinyspiny · 22/07/2025 12:21

We use a mix of things here filtered tap water and still and sparkling bottled water but I’m not fussy about the type we usually buy the still and sparkling at Costco as it’s very cheap

Tap water from the borehole.

Where do you live OP?

Water bottled in plastic is up there with the biggest con of the modern age, when what we flush our toilets and clean our cars with is of better quality than the drinking water available in a lot of places. Take a look at what's leeching into that bottled water, and if you've ever been anywhere where there are thousands of empty plastic water bottles bobbing on the sea you'd never buy another for that reason alone.

It's gross.

Tap.

surelynot16 · 22/07/2025 12:24

Council pop aka tap water

evilharpy · 22/07/2025 12:28

Tap water (unfiltered). We have soft water that tastes lovely. Although where we used to live had extremely hard water and we drank that unfiltered too and never had an issue with the taste - it did ruin many kettles though.

What's wrong with tap water? Are you not in the UK?

Our Yorkshire tap water is lovely.

The people of Mumsnet seem to be flabbergasted that not everyone drinks tap water...it's always the same on these threads. And the MN scientists who have unrelated science backgrounds....what the heck has microbiology got to do with water quality? No-one is saying it contains bacteria but it does contain chlorine and pesticide residues.

I have a Brita jug on the work top but I also buy bottled water because it encourages DS to drink.

enjoyinglifenowretired · 22/07/2025 12:34

Tap

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 22/07/2025 12:34

Filtered tap - it's on the actual kitchen tap though, faffing around with a Brita was a pain. We fill washable glass bottles that go in the fridge so it's cold

RampantIvy · 22/07/2025 12:35

godmum56 · 22/07/2025 10:59

do you try letting your tap water stand in jugs before you drink it? that can reduce the chlorine taste markedly

It does, and it works.

wagnbobble · 22/07/2025 12:39

Tap ! Filters I’m always concerned that they can build up bacteria ( not saying they all do ) Bottled water is just ridiculous .

SonK · 22/07/2025 12:39

We drink tap water at home, plastic bottles are unhealthy actually so we only use them if necessary.

Also looking into getting a filter throughout the house as the hard water is damaging our skin too but this is rather dear so we will save up for it

SpecialBreak · 22/07/2025 12:39

I drink tap water but would love a water filter. I know someone who is blind in one eye from a parasite found in UK tap water 🤢

Sunnyside4 · 22/07/2025 12:42

Severn Trent😀

MaybeItsTimeForMeNow · 22/07/2025 12:43

Tap. Bottled water isn't regulated to the same degree as tap water....and I work in the industry to know there is a significant difference in quality as a result.

Also, plastic.

Wallywobbles · 22/07/2025 12:46

Tap

RampantIvy · 22/07/2025 12:47

I only drink bottled water on holiday where the tap water isn't safe to drink.

AntiquePenguin · 22/07/2025 12:48

Our lovely soft Yorkshire tap water.

If I'm staying in a hard water area I drink bottled water or dilute the tap water with squash or fruit juice.

Waitingfordoggo · 22/07/2025 12:57

Tap water. Would only ever buy bottled water if I’m out and about and have forgotten to bring my own drink bottle. I couldn’t justify buying bottled all the time because of the plastic waste, and I worry about microplastics too. We’re so lucky to live somewhere where the tap water is safe and drinkable and cheap.

We installed an under sink water filter system. Can’t recommended enough- now I’m used to it, tap water tastes so chlorinated 😬

can you share the name of water filter system you are using please?

Council juice aka tap water (which is bottled up the road and sold up and down the country anyway)

PennywisePoundFoolish · 22/07/2025 13:08

Fridge water dispenser with loads of ice. I like mine really cold

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 22/07/2025 13:09

I only drink Vichy Catalan... not really, London tap.
