What water do you drink at home?

What water do you drink at home? Do you buy bottled water? Do you have a filter system? Do you have water delivery arranged?
With two active boys I noticed that lately we go through racks of bottled water and looking to change to either water filter like virgin or water2 or get a water dispenser. I haven’t done any research yet on any filters but worry if we install any it wouldn’t change how tap water tastes and we will still need to buy bottles.
Has anyone installed filter and happy with it after at least a year of use?

Tap water for drinking. I do use a filter to fill the kettle because tea tastes better when it's filtered. Added bonus that it doesn't scale up the kettle too.

Tap I even take it with me in an insulated bottle.

spoonbillstretford · 22/07/2025 10:34

Town hall water

We used to call it Corporation Pop.

I have a microbiology background.

Please do NOT buy bottled water. Its very environmentally unfriendly and the quality is not better than tap water, there is a misconceptiom about this. The only difference is that tap water does not contain microplastics, in that sense is better than bottled water.

Unless you live in an area with radon/ old copper pipes or any specific issue, tap water is always best. Your county council is aware of these areas, please check.

In mine always tap water.

From the fridge, or just the tap if I can’t be bothered to stand and fill my Stanley

Tap. We put a big jug in the fridge so it's always chilled. I wouldn't regularly buy bottled water because of the plastic waste.

100 per cent this!

When we lived in a different area (Brighton) the water did taste awful but used a jug filter thing and it was fine

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/07/2025 10:36

Tap.

For several years in the 80s we lived in a Middle Eastern desert, where our water arrived in a bowser. It came out of the tap hot and brown. We had to filter it, boil it and keep it in the fridge, before we (inc. very little dds) could drink it.

On returning to the U.K. for summer hols I was startled to find that bottled water had suddenly become fashionable, when there was clean, cold water out of the tap at home.

Currently tap.

in the past we have had a filter jug which we kept in the fridge.

JMSA · 22/07/2025 10:36

Tap. I’m in Scotland so it’s perfect.

newyearsresolurion · 22/07/2025 10:37

Tasty tap I find bottle water bland

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 22/07/2025 10:37

Tap water

Overthebow · 22/07/2025 10:38

Tap water. Bottled water is bad for you and the environment because of the microplastics.

Digdongdoo · 22/07/2025 10:39

Tap. But from a filter jug so it tastes nicer.

Iiiil · 22/07/2025 10:40

Used to drink only tap with a brita filter but lately been using bottle water for ease, the Tesco Perthshire ones.

JohnsShirt · 22/07/2025 10:41

Council juice AKA tap.

Sweetleftfood · 22/07/2025 10:41

Teens drink tap water sometimes with cordial. Me and husband prefers sparkling water from cheap bottles but also drink tap if we don't have any fizzy water

Alondra · 22/07/2025 10:42

Refilled tap water bottles from the fridge.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 22/07/2025 10:42

We got OURTAAP as our tap water doesn’t get cold enough and tastes horrible. I struggle drinking water at best of times and I end up massively dehydrated. The system we got has a hot water feature too so I use it as a kettle.

Deadringer · 22/07/2025 10:42

Tap water. I don't like drinking water but if i need to and don't fancy it i put in a dash of juice or something, and I mean a tiny dash to make it more palatable.

Newnameformenow · 22/07/2025 10:44

Tap tap tap

mumu54 · 22/07/2025 10:44

Unfiltered tap water

ExponentialDelivery · 22/07/2025 10:45

Tap, we live in a very hard water area and it tastes lovely, filtering makes it taste of nothing and I wouldn't pay for bottled because of cost and plastics. I don't like the water in soft water areas, it just doesn't quench my thirst in the same way and doesn't taste of anything.

sparebooks · 22/07/2025 10:45

We installed an under sink water filter system. Can’t recommended enough- now I’m used to it, tap water tastes so chlorinated 😬
