Oh Lordy this heat… what do people wear?

Sweat trickling into my knickers, hair dripping wet… I’m seeing loads of women wearing long black silky skirts - that can’t be cool, can it?

What does everyone wear when it just gets so hot (and they have to commute - works is pretty chilled about what you wear).

Im just a big old sweaty mess…🥵

It blinkin' well is where I'm concerned!

It’s never too hot for knickers!

I haven’t worn any for over a week. I like an air conditioned undercarriage. Obviously, whatever the weather l do wear them if l’m on a period. No, l don’t wear short summer dresses and l don’t do cartwheels. 😃

Where are you all that it’s so hot? I’m in the highlands, so it’s pleasantly warm but nowhere near unbearable

I'm on Woodhead Pass and it's 29 degrees.

I’m resting in a cool bath at the moment so nothing. Had a thin poly/viscose dress on all day at work, I have air con in the train and office so I’ve been fine all day, just baking this evening at home. Thin cotton nightie after my bath.

Polyester is your enemy (and an enemy of the planet). It’s made from plastic and doesn’t breath, or wick at all. Natural fibres are much cooler. I share your pleasure in cool baths.

Yes, I love good weather, because we get so much cloud and rain. But then when it arrives, we can't cope and everyone starts complaining about the heat and the sleepless nights.

Good weather to me is a bright spring day, around 17 degrees. Gorgeous.
This is humid and very unpleasant. Add in peri and it's hellish.

yakkity · 11/07/2025 15:59

It’s 31 where I am today and I’m again in another pair of mid thigh length linen shorts and a long sleeve linen shirt with sleeves rolled up and sneakers.

it’s fine. I grew up with hot humid summers and I learned to just slow down. Don’t fuss about fretting about the heat. Just slow down and sort of accept it and my body kind of adapts

RampantIvy · 11/07/2025 16:00

I would find snekaers too hot. This is sandal weather for me.

Zippedydodah · 11/07/2025 16:16

I’m wearing cotton pyjamas today because I have an absolutely hideous rash from photosensitivity and I’m miserable as hell.
i’m on antibiotics, antihistamines and steroid cream but nothing’s working yet. Narrowly avoided hospital admission yesterday and I have no bloody idea what’s triggered it.
i hate hot weather.

I agree!! Funnily enough, the only people I've ever heard of who don't wear knickers in the heat are Brits - or maybe the locals here are just too polite to say. 😅However, I must admit it would never occur to me to go without.

TheChosenTwo · 11/07/2025 23:06

@SouthernNights59 i sleep naked all year round EXCEPT when it’s really warm at nights I wear a pair of knickers in bed so I don’t get a sweaty bum - and if I do it’s wicked up by my pants!! 😂

Apparently being naked makes you hotter (or something)? I wear light cotton pj bottoms and a strappy loose cotton top. Even DH (from the ME) was grumbling it was too hot last night. And I swear that man is part lizard.

Loose linen 3/4 trousers are good. They catch the sweat and stop the chub rub.

I have some patterned viscose dresses. Pattern is good as it hides sweat patches.

If you can find it organdy cotton is the thinnest cotton.

White tops.

ViciousCurrentBun · 12/07/2025 09:19

White skirt, had to wear a bra unfortunately as need one and a green strappy top top, used a white umbrella as a parasol. Caused a huge stir doing that in the village we were staying in Devon in. Assuming not much happens round these ere parts.

I've read that too but it really isn't true for me, at least not in bed. The lightest thinnest nightie makes me unbearably hot at night and I just like the freedom of wearing nothing in bed - nothing getting tangled or twisted or trapped under me when I turn over. Maybe it's better to cover up when you're in the sun but it certainly doesn't make me cooler at night.

I agree, l can’t wear anything in bed. I sleep naked summer and winter.

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/07/2025 10:06

At night the best way is to take a very thin cotton nightie or long muslin scarf, soak it completely with cold water and put it on/lay over you. It will work to cool you down.

But it would stick to you! I think l’d rather not go to bed at all.

A moomoo.

DrCoconut · 12/07/2025 11:29

@forthistimeonly I predict 6 weeks of wind and rain starting in exactly one week's time. The app I'm using is the school calendar 🤣

DrCoconut · 12/07/2025 11:35

@Squirrelsnut heat never used to bother me. When it reached 40 a few years ago I was fine. Then peri struck. These days I start to get uncomfortable above about 25. I've found that being almost permanently attached to my water bottle helps. Massive amounts of fluids (but obviously not enough to water poison myself!)

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/07/2025 12:16

I bought this on a whim yesterday

www.peacocks.co.uk/4804073-khaki-ditsy.html

I usually look like a sack of spuds in a jumpsuit but this one’s not too bad and is very cool and comfy.

CalicoPusscat · 12/07/2025 12:32

Very thin cotton top and loose cotton midi skirt. No knicker brigade.
