Oh Lordy this heat… what do people wear?

Sweat trickling into my knickers, hair dripping wet… I’m seeing loads of women wearing long black silky skirts - that can’t be cool, can it?

What does everyone wear when it just gets so hot (and they have to commute - works is pretty chilled about what you wear).

Im just a big old sweaty mess…🥵

Natural materials and loose.

Today I'm wearing silk culottes and a very oversized cotton lagenlook shirt. I actually find it easier to stay cooler if I'm covered up.

I stopped buying man made fabrics a long time ago.

Yes, the mistake so many people make is bearing their flesh. That just means the sun can penetrate it directly and you get much hotter. Far better to cover up with loose natural fabrics.

Today, a straight fitted cotton dress, bare legs, block heels. cotton undies

This evening, a long loose linen skirt, a loose very thin cotton top and ballet flats..

Later, for sleeping, very light cotton shorts and a cotton vest. No bed coverings.

Just move slower, avoid carbs and sugar, drink lots of plain water,

I wear pure silk or linen or cotton dresses in this weather for work. Or silk tops with linen trousers. A silk dress is my go-to for the hottest days of all though. As a pp has said it needs to be one without a lining!

Yes this! I wear (unlined) silk dresses to work. I have a selection from Jaki London and Yacco Maricard. They cover a multitude of sins but still look quite smart/chic. They’re loose fitting (but well cut) and suitably wafty. Just have to avoid them if it’s too windy outside.

I used to live/work in Hong Kong and have to look smart for work in 38 degrees and 98% humidity so I’m well practiced at warm weather work dressing. I don’t miss those days of make-up running down your face due to the humidity.

Jeez @BreadInCaptivity, we got you the first 6 times. 7 identical posts is a bit much. 😂

The thinnest most flowy dress I had today. Not sure about tomorrow, I’ve worn all my cool cotton dresses this week and I don’t think the pits will survive a re-wear.

Urgh, I’m so sticky.

SwayingInTime · 10/07/2025 19:37

At home, almost exclusively wafty strappy maxi dresses but too seethrough and braless for out and about. In public, cotton or linen wide cropped pyjama style pants and some kind of basic tee shaped top but no stretch, and very oversized.

Today I've been wearing nothing but underwear and a collection of around eight frozen Flannels, placed about my body and moved around occasionally, alternating with more that I've got freezing, whilst using the others 😅

Occasionally I've sat with my feet in a spare washing up bowl filled with chilled water.

I'm in a caravan currently.

Frozen flannels - I’m going to steal that idea 😊

SwayingInTime · 10/07/2025 19:38

I feel like silk will look scruffy after 2 mins from water or suncream marks?

I know! Sorry no idea what happened! Reported myself to MNHQ to delete the excess posts 🤣.

Honestly am not on commission!! Just love the dresses but didn’t intend to spam the thread!

StarlightLady · 10/07/2025 19:46

Long summer dresses. That’s all folks 😀! No bra (apart from at work), no knix!

Noseynoo · 10/07/2025 19:46

Floats strappy dress with no bra

Bluevelvetsofa · 10/07/2025 19:49

Long cotton floaty dress.

muddyford · 10/07/2025 19:50

Cotton culottes and a linen shirt.

AmusedCat · 10/07/2025 19:53

I'm on the English side of the Scottish border, we have had weeks of rain. Today is the first day it has been hot so accordingly I have dug out my linen dress and now I'm in seersucker pjs in front of a fan. We'll all be moaning tomorrow and by Saturday praying for rain because it's "Good for the garden" . We feel safe when it's raining up here in the north.

In London - so it’s ’dirty hot’! Bleugh. No breeze, niffink.

Humidity I agree is why it is so unpleasant.

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 10/07/2025 19:56

Long cotton or linen dresses! I see a lot of people out in black too and was planning on wearing light black leggings and a cotton top but even that was too hot so I changed into a nice big airy dress.

WhineAndWine1 · 10/07/2025 19:59

stuff I wore on holiday last week and when I have been to work it’s been sleeveless tops and baggy trousers. It’s really not panic stations in the heat. How do you all cope on holiday?🙄
