Oh Lordy this heat… what do people wear?

Sweat trickling into my knickers, hair dripping wet… I’m seeing loads of women wearing long black silky skirts - that can’t be cool, can it?

What does everyone wear when it just gets so hot (and they have to commute - works is pretty chilled about what you wear).

Im just a big old sweaty mess…🥵

Where are you all that it’s so hot? I’m in the highlands, so it’s pleasantly warm but nowhere near unbearable

Presumably, not the Highlands 😄

user1471548941 · 11/07/2025 01:46

High waisted, denim, wide leg shorts to mid thigh (avoids chafe issues!), light white vest sleeveless top tucked in. Linen shirt in a range of pastel colours over shoulders, unbuttoned.

SouthernNights59 · 11/07/2025 02:07

Loose linen or cotton clothing is your friend in hot weather.

Long gauzy cotton dresses.
Long viscose or silk skirts with a cotton t-shirt or sleeveless top.
Floaty short sleeved shirts.
Light colours.
Sandals.

I find long and flowy cooler than anything fitted.

I agree. Something like denim shorts just make me feel hotter than ever.

Jeez, it's not that hot! Sweaty knickers and dripping hair?!

And yes, I'm in London and I travelled on the tube today (not the Elizabeth line) and no, I didn't spend the day in an air-conditioned office.

Some people, like me, sweat profusely in hot weather, and struggle with heat intolerance. It’s an absolute pain and quite debilitating actually. You don’t, well, good for you.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 11/07/2025 03:37

I’ve made some thin cotton skirts with elasticated waists out of Indian block print fabrics and I’m wearing those with Seasalt t shirts.

Nat6999 · 11/07/2025 04:17

Chub rub shorts & a T shirt during the day, sleep bra & shorts during the night.

Denim makes me far too hot.

LillyPJ · 11/07/2025 06:02

This year I'm mainly wearing shorts and a vest, t shirt or loose top. I like my clothes to be loose so buy a bigger size - tight things make me hot. For posher occasions I'll wear a thin cotton skirt.

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 11/07/2025 06:19

I went to the Highlands for my holiday last week and experienced a top temperature of 18°C which was bliss compared with Southern England (where I live). It rained. I was glad of it.

I'm glad I'm still off work because my uniform is polyester-based and I'm plus sized and perimenopausal. At home I wear oversized cotton t-shirts and shorts, and I have two cotton dresses. One is a maxi dress the other comes to my knees. I wear chub rub shorts underneath. I have long hair which is usually kept high up on my head with a clip. The fan is on, the windows are open. I drink plenty of water.

I'm off to the supermarket this morning at 7am to avoid the worst of it today.

My flat was built in 2001 so it's very well insulated and I barely put the heating on in Winter...but unfortunately my daughter & I cook in the summer. We can't win in this country.Despite the midges, Scotland seems an attractive bet at the moment.

Edited for typos

Maybe not suitable for work or for those with bigger boobs than me, but not wearing a bra makes a huge difference - so much cooler without one.

I’m a 36F and l’m still in your club (apart from when at work), no knickers either, but don’t tell anyone will you. 😀

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/07/2025 08:00

I'm in London and have to commute in to the office. Yesterday I wore a long sleeved, full skirted viscose cotton wrap dress. Today a t shirt and long fifties style cotton midi skirt. No sweating. Sometimes more material rather than less works in the heat.

Top tip - load up on Airsim pants and camis from Uniqlo. They are designed for hot and humid Japanese summers and are the business.

I’m a nurse so wear a uniform 🥵🥵

Me too! In a boiling hot, non air conditioned GP surgery 🥵

I'm in Ireland and it's currently 20 degrees. At 9.39 a.m. Yesterday it got up to 27. I can only imagine what it must be like at 30+. Well, I've experienced those temperatures abroad, but usually there's a swimming pool or beach for a nice, cool dip.

MotherofPearl · 11/07/2025 09:50

Crisp cotton dress that is loose fitting
Birkinstocks
Large sunglasses

I'm nude in front of the industrial fan watching eastenders 😭

this is why mumsnet need to reinstate the laughy reaction face 😂

sandwichlover93 · 11/07/2025 10:24

I think it's all about the fabric... you need something breathable! Also I have a really good handheld fan from John Lewis that I take everywhere in the heat.

xWildFlowerx · 11/07/2025 10:28

Loose maxi summer dress, anything tight or heavy material (denim etc) just makes me feel hotter.

everywhichway · 11/07/2025 10:39

Unmentionable shorts. Nothing else.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 11/07/2025 10:40

People saying it’s not hot - well it is hot to me! The tubes have been flakey recently (my local one is frequently closed) so starting the day hoofing to the next one isn’t brilliant. And they’ve been much busier than usual (packed with tourists, and where I work it’s all student accommodation which is all holiday let’s now, so lots of people moving in and out with luggage) and yes, they are hot (especially when you are stuck in a tunnel).

It’s relative - some people don’t seem to feel the hot but they complain when it’s cold! The only heat I’ve felt worse is in Washington DC. I can usually take up to 45 on holiday but I’d hate to work in it.

A friends dad visited them in Washington a few years back - he’s from/lives in the Middle East and he (dad) said it was hellish (his actual words to his son ‘are you trying to kill me in this heat?’). They all have AC in their homes and the infrastructure is built to handle the weather.

And as you get older the worse it gets (so I’ve been told).

Black "shortie" romper suit. Light, loose, comfortable.

Yes, I love good weather, because we get so much cloud and rain. But then when it arrives, we can't cope and everyone starts complaining about the heat and the sleepless nights.

I'd say that this heat is not 'good weather'! Sun and a blue sky is lovely (for me) but I'd also like a breeze and wish somebody would turn the temperature down a bit!

It’s never too hot for knickers!
