Buying a dog and walking it 3 times a day every day in all weathers for the rest of it's life and carrying its poo home in a bag.

Picklelily99 · 12/07/2025 20:33

Drinking the milk of a different species!

How do we know horses enjoy it?

Because they have a close empathetic communication bond with their owners/ riders. They have ways of communicating pleasure , whinnying being the most obvious. I'm sure there sre many more ways they communicate their moods too. I believe they sre also super sensitive to the feelings of their riders.
This is all absolutely basic.
I don't think horse riding would be so popular if it involved cruelty.

They're designed to make women's pelvis tilt forward making their bum stick out and be more attractive to men. Makes me think of baboons

Smoking.

Drinking a cows mammary secretions

Parents who post endless pics of their DC on social media with open accounts. So naive. Religion; it's basically brainwashing a child its whole life and personally I think should be made illegal, until the child can decide for itself.

🙄

We wanted to. We fought for the right to do this and to be paid the same as men. It took a while.

You really think women should be kept at home and not allowed to work?

Yes to all that. I'm part of a generation that fought for it, started work in the 60s earning half what the man sitting in front of me was paid. Now it seems we got it all wrong.

Keeping a pet at all. Entirely pointless ( apart from it allowing you to feel superior to / loved by something)

Our pets aren’t pointless. We had a huge mouse problem before we got them and now we don’t have any mice. Keeping mice at bay was probably the reason we first domesticated cats. (And dogs have evolved alongside humans hunting together and sharing the spoils.)

I’m surprised how many people on this thread have said pets - I think that’s one of the least weird things about modern life.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 12/07/2025 22:48

That some opinions are considered ok but others are not, depending on the acceptable narrative of the society. That we think we are free thinking but we are not.

Take for example here, a message was deleted from @Tryonemoretime I think it was saying abortion as a concept is an example of what we are discussing here. But it's not considered an acceptable POV so it's just been deleted. How is that right? Are people not allowed have different views on things on MN?

That men can create children but then have zero interest, financial or otherwise, in them. That women are vilified as single mothers and society makes up for the lack of funds that children’s fathers fail to provide (at least in part). Mandate 50/50 financial and everyday responsibility for both biological parents and watch women soar!

Oh no, they’d hate that!

As nature intended.

Let’s ask the animal kingdom how they feel about it, you know the things like the Great White that chomps on a passing surfer or swimmer, even though humans are not part of its main diet. My previous eleven cats, including my current one, all spoiler and well fed yet still wants to catch birds and eat mice. My dog who has long since passed, gentle as a lamb, went into a bunch one day and came out with a still warm baby rabbit. If I died in my flat and no one found me, I would be food to my little tiddles. Stray dogs were eating bits of people bodies after bomb blasts and shootings in Afghanistan. I watched a documentary about a battalion in Ukraine that used to go and collect dead bodies that had been reported to the authorities there, they maggots never minded eating dead soldiers and neither did the cats.

We are part of nature and nature is part of us, if humans had never eaten meat in the past we would not be alive today. Until farming was invented humans were nomadic they scavanged and hunted, and died at an early age

Go and live with the Sami tribes above the Arctic Circle today, no Tesco’s on every street corner, wat to far for a Deliveroo rider, and and let me know how you get on eating fruit, veg and Tofu in the Tundra, it has a very short growing season and almost permanently dark for six months of the year

We are all meat, get over it.

Except humans can easily survive without eating meat and a huge number of the world’s species do not eat meat so it’s not an “animal thing”. Plus if we want any chance of surviving as a species, excessive meat consumption isn’t the best idea. Also the average life expectancy in the Stone Age was due to high infant mortality rates and no medical care. It’s not like the body naturally packed up at 35.

This, particularly childbirth.

You give birth, quite often a lengthy and bloody process that leaves you feeling as though you've been run over by a truck (or, in the case of cs, having major abdominal surgery) - and then someone hands you this totally dependant creature and says 'well done, here, now go and get no sleep for the next five years. Best of luck with your recovery!'

That's how it felt to me anyway.

What do you expect the hospital to do with the baby you decided to create, bring it up for you?!

and to the poster who feels it is preposterous that women should work just because they menstruate, hey welcome back to the 1920s!

Nothing to do with the hospital, or even the baby, everything to do with being expected to recover instantly from what can be a traumatic event.

Spiderx · 13/07/2025 09:26

...and that it's ok to poke holes in babies ears and hang jewellry from them as if those babies are just ' a thing' that's owned and yours to do what you want with when they have no say in the matter.

Not disagreeing, but they’re less annoying posturally, and there’s less strutting, and doing that raised leg thing.

(This was inspired by seeing Mark Knopfler do one that seemed to last several months on the LiveAid programme last night.)

Okay. Point taken, though the raised arms/interminable pause thing in drum solos is pretty irritating too...
Then again, there's keyboard stuff to factor in too, with 70's supergroups like ELP, Genesis and Yes... 😬
