I'd happily live in a meadow somewhere with a log fire and my own land my dc and dp could farm. I could cook warming broths, keep the chickens fed and read and maybe even write.

Ahh.

That’s my dream too. ❤️

Agree plus they always feel that someone else is to blame for their anger , its always you, their children, their boss who is at fault and their anger is justified.

Had a light-hearted conversation with my DH about this very thing the other day.
It came about because of how the President of Mexico has behaved in response to the floods in Texas.
Even after the current Us administration’s vile behaviour towards Mexico and its people, she still sent aid workers and firefighters to assist in Texas. She did the same thing during the California wildfires earlier in the year.
She put aside any anger and tit for tat, and just behaved like a human being during a time of serious human suffering to assist the very country that’s demonised her’s and her people.
I reckon we should have a 1 year experiment where every country exists under female leadership, just to see how the lack of man-baby tantrums changes the face of geopolitics 🫠🫠🫠

There have been a couple of posts about this and you're absolutely right.
I recall that there was a human milk ice cream made somewhere and many people reacting with revulsion about this.
But cows milk? Fine!

Very weird!

It’s not really that weird you can catch hiv and other diseases from another humans milk but not from cows milk and people have been drinking cows milk for a long long time

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/07/2025 19:58

Israel killing 55,000 Palestinians in less than 2 years.

This.

But humans and animals have always eaten animals ( and probably humans)

WhatColourIsThatBalloon · 09/07/2025 19:59

Giving children free access to the internet via smart phones.
The government/society deciding that calling a genocide, a genocide is anti-semitic.
Inaction on global warming
Cows milk
Calling a penis or a vagina/vulva an odd name - ie fairy, widge etc.

BlueSkyBeing · 09/07/2025 20:04

Most women's shoes bearing no resemblance to the actual shape of a healthy foot.

Ha yes! With pineapple or a tiny pickled onion!

Cheese and pineapple - who on earth made that up!

I love that! Especially if it’s stuck into a tin foil hedgehog!

That women go through menstruation every month and give birth and breastfeed and yet we're just basically supposed to get on with full time work and everything else.

YES!

And this goes back to some overlord owning the world and selling it to us in tiny portions. The trap of society.

Absolutely and water companies selling us back the free water that falls from the sky

SwedishSayna · 09/07/2025 20:07

The fact that we all live as though we had the resources of multiple planets.

TaborlinTheGreat · 09/07/2025 18:13

What's the (achievable and suitable for children of working parents) alternative?

Oh I 100% agree.

So perhaps the idea that we have to have 2 full time working parents to support raising and housing a family how they like instead of the alternative is what is bizarre about modern society

User135644 · 09/07/2025 20:11

Illegal immigration

I love that! Especially if it’s stuck into a tin foil hedgehog!

Under the tin foil was usually half a grapefruit. The onions were silverskin. I remember them fondly

Wtfneighbour · 09/07/2025 20:15

If we’re going deep, money as currency.

working more than being at home

juggling raising children as well as working and everything else

hustle culture

social media - furthermore, influencer culture, curated videos, the whole industry of SM and how to capture attention spans.

And in some places, being charged again for collecting the water that falls from the sky in a container on your own property that you’ve already paid for 🫠🫠🫠

WTF? How/where does that happen?
Not doubting it BTW, just sounds outrageous!

Houseshmouse · 09/07/2025 20:21

Impregnating cows, tearing their baby away and drinking their breast milk

OneNewLeader · 09/07/2025 20:21

Shaving. I do it, but it’s weird.

Yes!! Imagine explaining this to aliens.

PregnantBarbie · 09/07/2025 20:30

Trust mumsnet to turn a light hearted thread about cheese on stick into a crusade of martyrdom. 🤣

Pudmyboy · 09/07/2025 20:31

That butterflies are not called flutterbys, because that's really what they do,!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 09/07/2025 20:31

As someone who can milk livestock, I'd say that it is probably drinking milk from any other species apart from ourselves. I imagine some Biblical figure sitting on a rock, thinking, "Hmm, that calf/lamb/kid seems to enjoy that milk, so I'll try some, too!"

Despite this, we wouldn't think to drink human milk, and find it strange to think that, in other countries, they drink more goat/sheep milk than cows'.

Stayingundermyblanket · 09/07/2025 20:32

Moving the clocks forward and backwards an hour twice a year. It massively interferes with my sleep pattern, and confuses my dog. Just move it half an hour one last time and leave it!
