That you can buy fireworks and set them off at home.

I'm convinced the only reason no goverment has banned them is because they want us to remember what happens to people who try to blow up the polititians.

That's a really good one. I've signed various petitions over the years to ban the bloody things for all but organised public events. Crazy that anyone can buy these explosives - and they are explosives these days, not the little Benwell boxes we could buy years ago with tiny fireworks.

LancashireButterPie · 09/07/2025 18:21

Plastic lawns

InMySpareTime · 09/07/2025 18:25

Dressing 5 year olds like tiny bank managers to “prepare them for the world of work” but letting University students wear whatever they want.
seems the wrong way round.

They are literally little bombs aren’t they!

Agree with the pet one... it's so strange to me that this small animal lives in my house 😂.

And basically rules the place.

EmmaWoodhouseOfHighbury · 09/07/2025 18:27

Expecting hunter gatherers to live in completely unnatural conditions: isolated in little boxes, expected to be around hundreds of strangers every day, away from family and nature, eating a diet they haven't evolved to eat, doing meaningless work to make other people rich etc.

Then pathologising anyone with mental health problems.

Waitingfordoggo · 09/07/2025 18:28

For me the biggest one is rampant consumerism. Being told we need this or that because our lives will be better if we have it. Or worse, we need these products and treatments because we look like shit and our natural faces and bodies are offensive so we must buy all the lotions and potions and machines and treatments to make ourselves look acceptable- because looking appealing is obviously the most important thing about being a human 🤔

And almost all of us fall for it at some point, and we give our money to these faceless millionaires who make us feel like shit. It’s madness. ’We can never buy enough…all the riches in the world can’t buy a sense of self-love’ (to quote the wonderful Ren).

Sandyoldelbows · 09/07/2025 18:28

That wars are caused by countries. They aren’t, they are caused by the men who run the countries and their egos.

Trans baloney.

Euphemistically calling the trade in newborn babies ‘surrogacy’ as if that makes it ok.

Keeping dogs in houses (I love my dog but it’s very weird if you think about it).

fake stuff on / faces, tattoos.

allowing children to be obese.

edited for typo

Yes: it is strange that once your teens go to college anything goes ( within reason ) regarding clothes , but most schools have a fairly strict uniform code and lots of rules around it all.

DontTrustBarbara · 09/07/2025 18:32

Clapping. Something pleases us and we slap our hands together.

See also laughing. Such a weird thing to do, but more of a reflex than a choice.

Zoos.

That women go through menstruation every month and give birth and breastfeed and yet we're just basically supposed to get on with full time work and everything else.

I was actually thinking about that today watching the tennis. It struck me that male players can have multiple kids and it have no impact on their career whilst that’s just not physically possible for a woman.

Mothers being expected to be away from their children, and even little babies, for most of the day, almost every day.

I bloody love being away from my children most of the day, they drive me potty.

Tattoos are weird as dh has had a few small ones done and said it hurt , but he didn’t have to go through it twice ! I don’t understand why people have so many as well , especially on backs where you can’t see them yourself ( not easily anyway!)
Why we can’t look at our own backs like owls can. We are badly designed for so many things!

Utterlyconfusednow · 09/07/2025 18:38

That we are supposed to believe that life is a gift. It doesn’t feel like a gift to me. That it must be worshipped and if someone feels they want no more of it, it’s considered bad mental health.

itsmeafterall · 09/07/2025 18:39

That we hurtle around at ridiculous speeds in a metal box with wheels that is far far too big just for one person, but most journeys involve only 1 person.

That we get slaves to manufacture plastic things, polluting their homes and bodies in the process , package them up and sail them half way round the world on giant ships. Only for said plastic tat to be bought, delivered in yet more packaging only to be broken/discarded after one use. Then thrown away and either buried, or shipped back to where it came from to block waterways or get burned to produce even more toxic pollution. Madness of consumption.

Life is a gift . . . for which you pay, and pay, and pay (and not only in money) until it's all over. And you're not allowed to moan about getting older as you should be just grateful you are not dead. Madness.

Laughing. You get a weird feeling in your body then a bizarre noise bursts out of your mouth!

Farting. You get a weird feeling in your body then a bizarre noise bursts out of your arse.

Girls and women wearing the skimpiest of clothes and showing lots of flesh to punish those men who objectify them and perve over them. Just serves 'em right, eh?

That parrots can talk. This blows my mind 🤣

And crows can remember human faces and apparently hold grudges!
