Also, not just individual ownership of land, but the vastly unequal amounts of land the countries have, proportionally to their population.

Yes, I know that often, a lot of the land isn't ideal for habitation (although human ingenuity seems to know no bounds); but who originally decided that - just for one - Russia should have 11% of the world's land for less than 2% of the population? Yes, I know, the answer is most probably 'a lot of war, starting a long time ago'...

And we still don’t know the origin of such decisions. War claims to explain a lot but it really doesn’t.

Yes and the belief that women’s legs look so much better in them.

This is one bit of ridiculousness I know is ridiculous but I cannot let it go 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I’m married to a giant, so the little height boost stops me looking like a hobbit in photos….and heels definitely give my bum a bit of a boost and force me to stand with decent posture. I know it’s going to hurt. I know I’m going to complain about it…..but I do it anyway 🫠🫠🫠🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😂

@BunnyLake I often overthink sex and end up concluding that it is utterly ridiculous (and then obviously I lose all interest 😂)

I believe, absent porn, it would be less ridiculous. I’m so old fashioned.

The people who make the rules don’t engage in active combat, they leave that to their servants.

Another question I have is, who decided gold was worthy?

And diamonds too. If you look into their history, a few very powerful people decided that they should be ultra desirable and thus extremely expensive - and then this was just accepted as a fact by most of the world.

It's just carbon - the same as the base of so many things on the planet, including us! It's rather poignant how valuable diamonds are universally considered, yet how worthless many people consider other actual human beings to be.

That Wifi isn't magic. It must be - there is no other explanation.

Another great quote comes to mind.

"Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic". That one's Arthur C. Clarke.

Why people are so fascinated by jewellery and diamonds and want to wear loads of it. Some subtle pieces are nice , but chunky things and loads of rings just look odd. Maybe it’s because I don’t like wearing it myself though !

I so agree with you. Look how they sold diamonds to the masses! There are some very clever, but ultimately, evil people in charge.

I love that your dog is probably thinking the same. 😁

He almost certainly is! 😂

I love to imagine what a little goldfinch is thinking. Along with dogs and cats and horses……

Oh yes! That blackbirds can mimic sounds they hear. Incredible.

Well…..they can mimic, and are super intelligent as far as birds go!

My step-MIL has a mockingbird nesting in a tree in her garden, and he’s got so used to hearing her calling in the dog, he now mimics that sound and the dog gets really confused 😂😂😂😂

BettyCrockerClinic · 09/07/2025 18:12

Monogamy - specifically sexual monogamy. Why is it only possible to be emotionally committed to someone if you’re physically exclusive to them? You love someone, you want them to be the most important person in your life… but that means you should never do something pretty much universally acknowledged as pleasurable with anyone else ever again?

If monogamy works and is so ideal, why do so many people cheat?

UpsideDownChairs · 09/07/2025 18:12

That it's unacceptable for men to put both their legs into a garment with a single fabric tube, rather than one leg in each of 2 fabric tubes.

(NB - whilst you might think it's less of an issue in Scotland, it's not actually a tube there, it's a flat piece wrapped around - a single tube is just as unacceptable there as it is the rest of the UK)

Mass “education” in schools as a one size fits all
Not fit for modern living

What's the (achievable and suitable for children of working parents) alternative?

AInightingale · 09/07/2025 18:13

The NHS and care providers going all out to prolong the lives of very frail elderly people who live miserable lives (often painful, often mentally torturous) enduring hopeless, degenerative conditions. Vaccines, endless doses of antibiotics, spoon feeding.

Yes, I will never understand this. It actually really pains me.

Children being given access to the Internet and apps rife with predators/porn/extremist content but kept indoors for their own safety.

A thousand times this.

Is this not a normal thing to do then? Socialise with your peers via playing?

Exactly!
'Playing out' evolved before 'being in' (ie houses) were invented!

GameOfJones · 09/07/2025 17:56

I was coming to say this! And owners picking up dog poo. Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad they do but I do get a "WTF" moment every time I see someone walking their dog and merrily carrying a little bag of shit.

I’m a dog poo picker upper and I have this thought many times a day 😆😆😆
