What’s going on in my Neighbours house?

Ricepuddins · 03/07/2025 13:35

Before I’m told to mind my own business, these neighbours are making our life hell with the noise they generate so it’s hard to not notice the strange things going on there. I work from home and my desk overlooks the close.
its a couple aged around 40 living there, they had a baby around 2 months ago but it hasn’t been seen since they came
home from hospital. I saw the woman take a car seat out recently but it was empty, it was still empty when she returned. So if there is a baby she must have left it home alone. We heard a baby cry once but it sounded like a much older baby around a year old, definitely not a newborn.
There are people coming over at midnight every day, they are very loud and don’t leave until around 2am sometimes. There are often children with them and it’s a school night. Some of the people who enter the house I don’t see leave. I have a ring doorbell that unfortunately picks up everything as our front doors face each other. There was a woman who stood out as she didn’t look anything like the couple or their family who seem to be their only visitors, she went into their house around 11 and I never saw her leave. That was a week ago.
The woman rarely leaves the house herself and I can hear her vacuuming for hours at a time. I’ve never met her and they moved in a year ago.
They do their gardening in the dark, no lights what so ever.
The man used to say hello to my husband every morning when they left for work but now he looks at the floor and doesn’t acknowledge my husband since he asked him about the noise.
not only does their constant noise affect us it’s starting to make me nervous about what sort of people they are. Mentally unwell or criminals is my guess. My husband thinks they are swingers. Although this doesn’t explain the missing newborn that has never experienced daylight.
Does anyone have any idea? Lighthearted speculation welcome. But it’s a genuine post and I don’t know if I should do anything or forget it, it’s making me uncomfortable tbh.

I just did a bit of weeding out the front using the phone torch and it's gone 10pm.
The neighbours probably think I'm a right loon, but i could see 3 new weeds and they were calling to me😂

Some may think you were a satanist!

AffableApple · 03/07/2025 22:15

I'm so sorry you had to deal with this neighbour at such an awful time.

Your situation is similar to what I assumed was happening here.

OP, direct any concerns to SS, and your noise complaints to the cops and the council. But otherwise you've no idea about, and nor should you know about, your neighbours' business.

Edit: I accidentally removed the quote, but this was aimed at @RepoTheGeriatricOpera

brunettemic · 03/07/2025 22:23

You’ve made reference to various different people arriving but never leaving…I’m curious as to how many people you now think are in this house? Is it more or less than 25?

Ricepuddins · 03/07/2025 22:04

Thank you for that post Wildhorses, it’s opened my eyes and helps to make sense of their way of life. I hope you have a smooth recovery.
The noises are shouting, slamming doors, music, thumping walls, diy late at night and they talk so loudly and over each other so there’s often about 10 conversations going on at once that sounds like an argument. The walls are thin so it sounds like they are in the room with me. I turn a blind eye but it’s so disrespectful imo. When my husband asked them to please be quieter overnight the man shrugged and didn’t respond.

This sounds highly annoying OP and really inconsiderate of them regardless of their culture. I think you’re within your rights to complain about antisocial behaviour and highlight the fact that young children are being taken out very late at night as that will impact their schooling etc.

MyQuirkyTraybake · 03/07/2025 22:41

Hmmm must be a simple reason. Human trafficking isn't impossible but not likely.

Vaccing cos one of them has an OCD or a health condition? In some cultures, it's not uncommon to vac twice a day.

Home business? The vaccing could be a hair dryer or nail polish fume extractor? But they aren't paying tax so they don't want to say anything?

Or maybe they have an older child who has addition needs and the people visiting are helping? Tutors? Nurses? Cleaners?

Or is it a hot house? Do they rent or own there? There's cases of people taking on rentals to grow weed? The people visiting are buying?

Empress13 · 03/07/2025 22:55

You would smell it if they were growing cannabis. Maybe baby is still in hospital hence all the family visits?

mycatismyworld · 04/07/2025 00:57

Are they digging the garden? I had a cannabis factory next door, terraced too. The tenants went to great lengths to tidy back and front gardens and replaced all the old nets with expensive voils. Now at first I was delighted to have such neighbours after years of awful people living next door to me, but a few months later I started to smell weed. Police didn't want to know so I kept calling them until they came and they found the whole house was filled with plants.

A few days later a workman came to reconnect the electricity and dug about 4 or 5 feet down in order to do so.

Vanillazebra · 04/07/2025 01:20

It’s possibly an unlicensed HMO, call the council and tell them that you think this is happening. Unlicensed HMOs are a danger to the tenants themselves and to neighbours

mathanxiety · 04/07/2025 01:48

Illegal HMO was my thought too.

mycatismyworld · 04/07/2025 01:57

Armenians? Oriental Orthodox Church?
Baby's are kept indoors for the first 40 days.

Not the point of the thread but if your ring doorbell is recording activity on their property then you risk being in breach of privacy laws!

Not if its on a sensor. Or if there's no complaints. cctv with constant monitoring is an offence but only if someone complains. If you regularly delete the videos it's not as serious. We have a doorcam which faces opposite and can see at least four of the houses across the road. It only records when someone is at our gate then we can also see across the road. So unless you are intentionally spying on someone. Not a lot, if anything will happen. Neighbours ask eachother to check footage if something has happened as some of them have it too. We're on a WhatsApp group. Considering the council and police do FA about anything antisocial or criminal that people report I will fight my ground to keep it even if someone did complain. But I don't keep recordings unless there's something of significance on it. Mostly my cat fighting off other cats, and a cute baby fox who just sat on our front path in broad daylight recently. So cute 😍

When I worked in the community I had a family of Romanians who lived a completely chaotic life. I never did figure out how many people were living in the house. There were all ages, including a young woman with a baby. I had to visit with an interpreter but even so, it was hard to make sense of the situation. The young woman disclosed that she was being raped by her uncle and other visiting men. I had to report this to the police and social services. They did a joint visit but the house was completely empty. I have no idea where they went.

DrPrunesqualer · 04/07/2025 03:20

I and many people I know garden in the dark.
Fruit and veg that is.
Its to do with working with the moon cycles.

I prune hedges and the lime trees back late at night too, but that’s because our neighbours ( we only have one ) are horrible and intimidating so it’s easier to get out into the front garden and get some jobs done when I don’t have to stress about them.

The baby is a worry but I had terrible births and was breastfeeding ( single then twins ) so I rarely went out in the early months anyway. Perhaps the mum is the same.

user1492757084 · 04/07/2025 04:12

If you are worried, alert the local Police.

I find it fascinating to watch what the neighbours are up to. Love trying to work it all out. My dh has no interest whatsoever. I say to him “do you not want to know who walks amongst us?” He says “no”. Strange

I’m with your DH. I never know what goes on here. Didn’t even know the bloke across the road was found dead in his house, until about 3 months after it happened.

I never know what’s going on with my neighbours next door let alone across the road.

I’ve never heard of people gardening in the dark but I’m intrigued. Do you pick fruit and veg based on moon cycles or prune the plants? Didn’t your neighbours hear you cutting hedges? And if you used a light, didn’t you attract loads of moths? I guess it makes sense in the winter when it’s dark at 4pm but I’d definitely investigate if I heard strange noises outside at 11pm

Plumnora · 04/07/2025 12:11

You could maybe contact social services annd the police and request a welfare check? They may already be known to them. It does seem very strange...

newyearsresolurion · 04/07/2025 12:56

Was the woman definitely pregnant?? Have you seen the baby since you last posted?

I probably sound like a right loony now don’t I. If interested look up Lunar Gardening it’s a practice going back centuries. In terms of hedges etc at night. We use clippers and our neighbours aren’t right next to us. Their living and bedrooms are at the furthest point too. In terms of light there aren’t any street lights but the light from our property is enough. The bats nab all the moths. It’s also lovely and cool at night in the summer.

Child protection is everyone’s responsibility. Please pass this information on to the police/social work asap!

hcee19 · 04/07/2025 18:40

Drug dealing...We had a neighbour like this, constant people arriving at all hours, turns out they were dealers. They are in all walks if life. For some reason people think cannabis is legal, it is not , it is a class B drug. The house was eventually seized under the proceeds of crime act. Good....scum of the earth...

Heyhoitsme · 04/07/2025 18:48

It takes a nosy neighbour to report to the police. Sometimes bad things are happening under our noses. Please go into the police station and ask to speak to an officer.

Khayker · 04/07/2025 18:50

Could be trafficking, drugs or just weird people in some sort of cult. Speak to the police about your concerns and also social services, the baby is the focus here not the adults initially. Any bags or holdalls going in/out? That may be how babies or small children are being trafficked. Midnight gardening is indeed weird. Mental health maybe a concern, Social Services will advice you, as will police.

Usernamenope · 04/07/2025 19:03

This always concerns me as I am sure I look deranged to others. Trying to leave my house several times as I always forget something or need to do one more check (or twenty). Running out half dressed with a rubbish bag as I have suddenly remembered it's bin day. Once I got quite ill and became a hermit. I'm sure people were questioning my sanity.
