Oasis. Heaton Park. What do I do?

LunaDeBallona · 02/07/2025 23:11

Got tickets for one of the concerts when they were released last year.
Got two tickets- one for disabled daughter + AN other.
DD was taking friend. Friend now can’t go - so I have to go.
No problem with that apart from the fact when I’m going anywhere , I plan everything in advance, pay for parking/hotel , print everything off etc .
I do this because I have terrible arthritis in my knee and can’t walk far.

I don’t know Manchester, have no idea where to park , how to get to Heaton Park. All hotels are booked or £500 it seems.
What TF do I do?
Where can I park? I’m going to look at getting public transport in as close as I can but I’ve got no idea where anything is in Manchester or what to do.
DD is now spiralling picking up on my panic.
Ive got to sort out care for dog & husband as well which I can do but my main worry is getting to the venue in time and getting back to car after concert.

Does anybody have any local knowledge who can advise me please?

Can you book your own transport to drop you off and pick you up again?

TheChosenTwo · 02/07/2025 23:13

Sorry, don’t know the area at all but someone will be along soon with some advice I’m sure.

misssunshine4040 · 02/07/2025 23:16

A quick google shows 4 nearby car parks.
You can also travel to Piccadilly station and get an uber/ taxi to take you the 25 min drive there and back.
There are also buses from the park to the train stations.

You will not struggle to find a solution

Where are you coming from? And do you have tickets which are for the accessible area? Just asking as this will make a difference to how close you can get/be dropped off.

Coming from the north east and yes have tickets to the accessible area.

There’s no official parking at Heaton Park.

Your best bet is to book the shuttle bus, £10 return details here: https://tfgm.com/getting-to-oasis-manchester

I’d look at hotels outside of the city centre, look around Salford Quays\Media City or Sale/Altrincham, then get the tram from there into town and get the bus there & back.

Or - there might be a coach you can get there & back so you don’t need to stay over depending on where you’re travelling from, info here;,:

The problem is - how do I know we will get a car parking space in a car park?
Isn’t Piccadilly Station right in the center? So where do l park then? I think getting a taxi/uber will be incredibly difficult and then it’s getting one back- what happens if it’s 2am and I’m stood ( well collapsed!) outside Heaton Park unable to get a taxi back to Piccadilly??
I can’t get a train there won’t be a train back to where we live at that time of night.
This is why I’m panicking! 😳😳

Edited

Taxi/uber afterwards will be a nightmare, I was at the last Oasis heaton park gig, don’t rely on that.

Best bet is the shuttle bus or coach - details on my post above.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/07/2025 23:29

Depending on what night you are going, there is some availability at the YHA, though gig nights look to be £200, you can park there for free if you are staying. Could get an Uber to the gig and back?

Viobioscore48 · 02/07/2025 23:29

It will be busy. I wouldn't know about accessible parking or access, and would recommend you contact then directly to enquire about that. Another option is to arrive very early during the day. Park your car on a nearby street (for free), or even the next tram stop along (in the opposite direction to Manchester city centre). Then leave the gig a couple of songs early to get a head start on the crowds l. I thoroughly recommend catching the tram in the opposite direction to city centre, hopping off and if you need to get the tram into the city centre, jumping on at the station BEFORE it reaches Heaton Park stop so you get a seat. Ubers will be a nightmare. You could try pre-booking one and paying extra, but it will be mayhem.

MysteriousFalafel · 02/07/2025 23:31

Definitely shuttle bus or coach. I would then drive a little way out of Manchester and stay somewhere else which should give you better options on hotels - Bolton, Bury etc.

Alternatively have a look on the driveway rental apps and see if you can book something close by. It sounds like they’ve given about 10 seconds thought to accessibility which is very annoying and shit of the organisers. No accessible parking, no solutions, no shits given by the look of it!!

thaisweetchill · 02/07/2025 23:32

Public transport is going to be a nightmare so I wouldn’t even consider that.

I would recommend you look at JustPark where you can park on someone’s driveway not far from Heaton Park. It’s a residential area so a lot of people list their spaces to make money when gigs like this are on.

Otherwise, look at the big green bus which is officially affiliated with the gig.

shellyleppard · 02/07/2025 23:32

Op Piccadilly station is right in the centre. There is a premier inn five minutes walk from the stt. Could you catch the train in to Piccadilly then taxi/tram/train to the venue? Piccadilly tram station is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. I have disability issues too but it is doable x

LunaDeBallona · 02/07/2025 23:33

I don’t even know where the Heaton Park station is! I’ve screen shot this map from the link, provided by @Changingplace
I’ll try and phone Heaton Park tomorrow.
God, the stress. It’s going to be a nightmare isn’t it. I just want to cry.

They have just released a picture of the map of Heaton park and note the tram stop shuts at 22:00. The gig ends at 22:30 so I wouldn’t recommend the tram at all
unless you want to kiss half the gig.

I think all roads nearby will be blocked for parking, and there will be road closures too, I wouldn’t want to try driving up there.

Heaton park tram closes at 9pm and they’ll direct people to Bowker vale which is further.

Best bet is coach or shuttle, both pre bookable: https://tfgm.com/getting-to-oasis-manchester

Weirdly on the website it says the tram closes at 9pm?

HeatonPark · 02/07/2025 23:36

Park at Prestwich or Besses O't'barn tram stop, then get the tram for one or 2 stops from that car park. Lots of people will be coming from the south but fewer from the north

Read the information on the link I’ve posted with all the details, Heaton park station is closing early if you’re aiming for the tram you’d need to leave via Bowker vale - map here - but I think the shuttle or coach will be better

You don’t need to ring Heaton park, you can see the team stations on this map and for travel they’ll direct you to the Bee network official info

Look on the national express website. They run coaches (third party ones) to events. I’m getting one from my city to Cardiff and it’s dropping me right at the stadium, and picking me up there! Easiest option as I don’t know Cardiff and all hotels/driveways etc fully booked.

HeatonPark · 02/07/2025 23:41

I come from Heaton Park, DM if you need to. There's residential parking nearby. Of course the official websites don't direct you there but I can tell you where to park that's near the park that you can walk back to after the gig.

Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit · 02/07/2025 23:43

Do you have a blue badge?

Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit · 02/07/2025 23:52

Actually, doesn’t matter! There is no disabled parking, and you can’t take a seat or stool. Not very accessible! I live quite close but bought tickets for Wembley (seated) for that reason. Sorry, that doesn’t help you.
one option would be to book the premier inn at Bury. Tram into the park. Bus back up to Bury afterwards if tram stop closed. You’ll be going the opposite way to most people. Premier Inn Bury right by the tram / bus station. 10 minutes tram ride to Heaton park. Parking available at Premier Inn.

HobnobsChoice · 03/07/2025 00:03

Nearly all the streets will be restricted to residents parking and people are renting out driveways at lunatic prices. My mother in law lived about 5 mins walk and the councils issue permits, it was also in the news. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/people-living-near-heaton-park-31739412

The Bury to Victoria line is the one that goes past the park but the tram stop that will be open is about a mile walk (Bowler Vale) and it will be busy. But if you can manage that then possibly you could park away from the city centre near a stop to Bury and then travel from the opposite direction.

The shuttle bus goes right into the park to pick up but depends on what level of accessibility you need for your daughter (wheelchair user?) it may not be suitable. If you can both manage buses I'd do that to get to and from the city centre. The departure from the city centre is close to Moseley Street tram stop and then the drop off point afterwards is at Shudehill. You could park on a residential street in Didsbury or Chorlton and get the tram back out from the city centre to the South. How far can you and your daughter manage to walk?

You cannot get a tram from Piccadilly as the connecting line through Piccadilly Gardens is shut and depending on the day there's also gigs at the Co-op Live which will be busy too.

Which night are you going? There's other gigs on in the city and Ubers and taxis will be expensive with long waits or impossible to hail.

People living near Heaton Park will need permits for eight days this summer

During events at the park this summer, cars trying to access the resident permit zone after a certain time will need a permit

HobnobsChoice · 03/07/2025 00:11

To clarify some of the posts above , Heaton Park tram station itself itself will be shut at the end of the gig. The tram will still run but from a station that is more accessible and easier to have queues at as it's not next to a main road.

Depending on the date you go there are rooms at Premier Inn in Bury so could head away from the city centre to do as @Elephantsarenottheonlyfruit suggests as you can leave the car there and stay over night and drive back the next day. If you have to wait a while for transport you might feel too knackered or achy to drive back on the m62 and M/A1 at midnight
