Oasis. Heaton Park. What do I do?

LunaDeBallona · 02/07/2025 23:11

Got tickets for one of the concerts when they were released last year.
Got two tickets- one for disabled daughter + AN other.
DD was taking friend. Friend now can’t go - so I have to go.
No problem with that apart from the fact when I’m going anywhere , I plan everything in advance, pay for parking/hotel , print everything off etc .
I do this because I have terrible arthritis in my knee and can’t walk far.

I don’t know Manchester, have no idea where to park , how to get to Heaton Park. All hotels are booked or £500 it seems.
What TF do I do?
Where can I park? I’m going to look at getting public transport in as close as I can but I’ve got no idea where anything is in Manchester or what to do.
DD is now spiralling picking up on my panic.
Ive got to sort out care for dog & husband as well which I can do but my main worry is getting to the venue in time and getting back to car after concert.

Does anybody have any local knowledge who can advise me please?

ehat was your daughter going to do when you weren’t going or had arrangements not been made?

have a look at just park - it’s a bit late and prices will be high but possibly worth it if spaces are close by.

alternativly book a hotel further out and uber in, slowly leave at the end and book and uber when things quietened down. Or public transport to the hotel.

its all doable just take your time.

Laralee · 03/07/2025 00:19

Try the Premier Inn or Bolholt Best Western in Bury. Then get a taxi from there to Heaton park. Should be about £15 in an Uber. Or you could get the Metro (tram) from Bury to Heaton Park station but I don’t know which entrance at Heaton Park you would go in at. There are several. Might be a 10-15 minutes walk through the park. The ticket information should tell you. Ask me more if it is helpful. I live near Bury.

Teenybub · 03/07/2025 00:25

Village hotel in bury has a room for £109, I would go away from the city centre for a room if I was you. The majority will be heading to Piccadilly so public transport will be less pressured. Heaton Park is on the bury line for the tram to get you back.

Manchester public transport website has a page of official info and links about public transport for the Oasis gigs and planning your journey

Getting to Oasis

Find out how to get to Oasis by tram, shuttle bus and train.

What were the arrangements going to be before her friend pulled out - was a hotel booked or anything ?

Uber is not advisable, I went to the last Oasis gig at Heaton Park. There’s road closures all around and taxis/Ubers struggle to get through.

Theres official travel information here - I’m going and we’ve booked the shuttle bus but OP might even be able to book a return coach from where she lives.

Heaton park tram is closed after the gig you’d need to go to Bowker Vale.

The problem is - how do I know we will get a car parking space in a car park?
Isn’t Piccadilly Station right in the center? So where do l park then? I think getting a taxi/uber will be incredibly difficult and then it’s getting one back- what happens if it’s 2am and I’m stood ( well collapsed!) outside Heaton Park unable to get a taxi back to Piccadilly??
I can’t get a train there won’t be a train back to where we live at that time of night.
This is why I’m panicking! 😳😳

Edited

The tram goes directly into Piccadilly train station.

Its going to be more like £30 and wont be able to drop off close by.

I come from Heaton Park, DM if you need to. There's residential parking nearby. Of course the official websites don't direct you there but I can tell you where to park that's near the park that you can walk back to after the gig.

Edited

And of course you’ll know that all parking in the vicinity is permit only. Plus the roads will be closed.

soupyspoon · 03/07/2025 07:27

I hate to say this OP but I wouldnt go. Some things just arent worth the bother

It sounds a nightmare, cant drive in, cant taxi in, tram stop shuts early, cant stay nearby, what is the answer?

Heaton park is q is in prestwich quite away out of Manchester, it's on the tram route though hsve you tried looking at hotels in surrounding areas, also on the tram route, Bury for example?

HarrietBond · 03/07/2025 07:36

@LunaDeBallona looking at the link just provided your best bet must be the Big Green Coach, if a coach is accessible to you both. They are leaving from various places in the north east and take you directly there. Have a look.

PhilippaGeorgiou · 03/07/2025 07:52

MysteriousFalafel · 02/07/2025 23:31

Definitely shuttle bus or coach. I would then drive a little way out of Manchester and stay somewhere else which should give you better options on hotels - Bolton, Bury etc.

Alternatively have a look on the driveway rental apps and see if you can book something close by. It sounds like they’ve given about 10 seconds thought to accessibility which is very annoying and shit of the organisers. No accessible parking, no solutions, no shits given by the look of it!!

It doesn't help the OP, but just to say that organisers of events often don't give any thought to either disabled parking or drop offs. Disabled parking I accept may be hard for some events (for one a couple of weekends ago we booked a normal car park - city centre venue - eight months ago to get a space) but if there is no parking disabled drop off is really necessary and many organisers actually ban drop offs!

soupyspoon · 03/07/2025 07:58

Yes I was going to say, really going to a gig like this is a young, able fit persons game. I wouldnt be able to manage it personally.

Whyherewego · 03/07/2025 08:04

Does your DD have no other friends that can go ? It seems very difficult for you to be that plus 1. Other is there another relative that can take her?
In general (I have no experience of this venue) there is always lots of walking at these sort of gigs as they funnel people to stop overcrowding. If you have severe mobility issues I suggest speaking to the venue about accessibility support and a wheelchair otherwise you will likely be walking and standing.
I go to a lot of gigs in London and even with the huge amount of public transport I will end up walking and standing for 30 mins or so to get home.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 03/07/2025 08:21

Please don’t advise the op if you have no idea about Heaton park gigs and the area. It’s outside of Manchester. The tram stop gets closed( and the next one very very busy). The shuttle buses become a chaotic. There are certain entrances for the two areas as the map above. Ubers will be a nightmare and surge priced.

I went to oasis there the last time and the stone roses. We live not too far away ( 25 min) so got picked up a distance away where roads weren’t closed. I’m going this time again. Not sure why it’s a crap venue and a nightmare to get away from. We are either getting a lift home or will follow the ‘official walking route’ back into town. I’m aware none of it helps the OP.

Op read the official advise. Maybe the advise about Bury ( or away from manchester) may work but of course hotels are sold out or v expensive. It’s nearly time. Also is your daughter going to be ok. Is her mobility affected? It’s literally a field/park with quite a bit of walking to and from? It’s not completely flat in places either ( dependant on entrances)

Get the Uber into Bury Tram station.

Nope I just did the trip on the UBER app it’s actually £16

It’s more at peak times due to the surge pricing, the prices will definitely hike unfortunately!

Not while the gigs on it won’t be, they’ll bump the prices up and also because of road closures they’ll be rerouted further away, that’s if you can even get one afterwards - on the way will be fine but at the end it’ll be way too busy (I was at the last Oasud gig at Heaton park).

BoudiccaRuled · 03/07/2025 08:43

Confused about the dog and husband extra dilemma. Simple answer is that the husband looks after the dog..?

Ilovemyshed · 03/07/2025 08:45

Can you find a Just Park type place nearby?

Absolutely this, OP please read the official travel advice I linked earlier and take note of the advice from those of us who have been to a Heaton park gig.

Unfortunately there’s lots of well meaning but incorrect advice being given by people who are most likely thinking about how they’d get to/from the park on an average day :)

Feel free to PM me if useful OP.
