Oasis. Heaton Park. What do I do?

LunaDeBallona · 02/07/2025 23:11

Got tickets for one of the concerts when they were released last year.
Got two tickets- one for disabled daughter + AN other.
DD was taking friend. Friend now can’t go - so I have to go.
No problem with that apart from the fact when I’m going anywhere , I plan everything in advance, pay for parking/hotel , print everything off etc .
I do this because I have terrible arthritis in my knee and can’t walk far.

I don’t know Manchester, have no idea where to park , how to get to Heaton Park. All hotels are booked or £500 it seems.
What TF do I do?
Where can I park? I’m going to look at getting public transport in as close as I can but I’ve got no idea where anything is in Manchester or what to do.
DD is now spiralling picking up on my panic.
Ive got to sort out care for dog & husband as well which I can do but my main worry is getting to the venue in time and getting back to car after concert.

Does anybody have any local knowledge who can advise me please?

Not while the gigs on it won’t be, they’ll bump the prices up and also because of road closures they’ll be rerouted further away, that’s if you can even get one afterwards - on the way will be fine but at the end it’ll be way too busy (I was at the last Oasud gig at Heaton park).

You can reserve in advance. But anyway whatever I’ve tried to help here 🤷🏻‍♀️

Laralee · 03/07/2025 09:10

For everyone quoting me in terms of pricing of taxis I’m just trying to help with local knowledge of where to stay and how to get there as I live nearby. I got an UBER quote in an attempt to help and found two hotels. This has totally put me off trying to be helpful on here. Yes ok it may be more money on the day. Lesson learned.

@LunaDeBallona looking at the link just provided your best bet must be the Big Green Coach, if a coach is accessible to you both. They are leaving from various places in the north east and take you directly there. Have a look.

Edited

I used Big Green Coach company twice last year to see Taylor Swift in London and Cardiff and they were great. Pick up was quite early but it so easy and nice not worrying about parking etc

Absolutely agreeing with @PrioritisePleasure24 and @Changingplace , there is a lot of well meaning but not helpful advice that isn't taking into account the sheer number of people and the actual set up of the gigs.

Once again:
There's road closures all over when there's events at Heaton Park and while you normally can get the tram to Piccadilly the line is currently shut so it's not an option. Uber use surge pricing which is already in place for pre-booking and will be at least £40. The roads around the park will be no stopping and will be enforced. There's already travel warnings in place across public transport as there's 80,000 capacity which is a why it's not being held elsewhere as it's just too many people for the Etihad for a gig. I'm actually dreading going through Victoria on the Friday as it will be rammed

Cutleryclaire · 03/07/2025 09:32

How far can you walk from the car @LunaDeBallona ?

Evieshelper · 03/07/2025 09:38

Think you have a couple of options. Definitely read the official travel advice as posted above- noting that Piccadilly is closed. If you can't get tickets for the big green coach, which looks like the best option. The hotels along a tram line (Bury or Victoria are best but Trafford centre or Salford quays are also a good option) would be second best option, the trams will be busy so it's either a leave before the gig finishes or sit somewhere and wait for the queue to die down. Or you get to a park and ride spot with your car very early before the gig. Please do give yourself plenty of time to walk to the event. Heaton park is very large.

Parklifer · 03/07/2025 10:29

Hi OP. I am very, very local to the park - inside the residents' parking zone. I am sorry to say that these gigs are really not very accessible. Bear in mind that anywhere you can get a tram/park/uber to is around 10-15mins walk from where you need to enter, as you can't use all of the regular park entrances and they force the queues round with barriers IYSWIM.

Afterward is worse than arriving. The road closures prevent ubers from getting close after the gig - there's no access at all on lots of Bury Old Road and Sheepfoot Lane, and the side streets are all permit only access. I've just checked the residents' info and blue badges aren't exempt from these rules. Shockingly, there's no mention at all of disabled parking/drop offs. So even to get to an uber you will be walking a fair distance.

If you can walk for a mile or so after the gig there are plenty of workable options, and Bury is likely to be cheaper and easier for accommodation than Manchester. But I'm not sure there are any good solutions if your mobility doesn't allow this.

RunLyraRun · 03/07/2025 12:27

I used JustPark (or similar) to book a space on a local resident’s drive, 2 mins walk from Heaton Park, the last time I went to a big gig there. It might be more expensive at this stage but certainly worth a look.

GreenWriter · 03/07/2025 12:36

Is there anyone else that could go with your dd? And follow the original plan before the friend dropped out? Or was there no plan?

It’s sounding like a lot of faff & expense for you if you’re not that bothered about going?

LunaDeBallona · 03/07/2025 15:16

Hello!
Sorry I’ve been at work. Didn’t just abandon thread.
Ive amazingly managed to get on a driveway of someone who lives close to Heaton Park. Brother of a friend.
DD hadn’t made ANY plans with mate beyond what they were wearing - they were going to ‘sort it a few days before’ apparently as only ‘old people’ plan so much in advance 🤦🏼‍♀️
So I know it’s going to be a twenty minute walk but if I go at my own speed I should be ok.
I can’t thank everyone enough for helping,
I looked at the coaches @Changingplace which I would have been happy with but DD who is autistic couldn’t do a coach.
Im going to look tonight at booking a hotel in Bury or even further out.

Yes I’ve got a blue badge but there seems no facility for disabled parking,
DD can’t ask another friend as if friend no2 dropped out she wouldn’t be able to go - too much change for her.
Im happy to go as I loved Oasis back in the day -DD has grown up listening to the music of my misspent youth!

Again - thank you to everyone who offered advice, it’s really really appreciated .

Is there someone else that could go with your daughter?
Consider selling the tickets, and do something else?
Oasis tickets for Wembley were actually cheaper than Heaton Park! (Not sure about accessability for Wembley though)

EleanorRavenclaw · 03/07/2025 16:23

Well done OP I think that’s your best bet.
The tram line is not closed as pp have said it’s just not running through Piccadilly Gardens. The Altrincham trams are running to Bury via Victoria. For anyone going you can either walk to Market St or Victoria or get a free shuttle bus. Heaton Park tram stop always closes for gigs as it’s too small to cope with the crowds so people are directed to Bowker Vale. Someone put a good link in another post worth looking at that for advice.
Taxis take the absolute piss after gigs and charge a fortune and as pp have said can’t get anywhere near.
Good luck to anyone going it’s going to be amazing but mental.
also if anyone has a spare ticket I live in bury you can stay here

minnienono · 03/07/2025 16:36

Well done op. I must admit i usually wing it and find there’s far more parking than they admit to near by. Definitely book hotel accommodation further away from the city

Ilikewinter · 03/07/2025 17:44

It's ust crazy, I lived in Manchester and have to travel back for work. Tried to book my usual Premier Inn for the Sunday evening and it's £336 ..... yep it's an Oasis concert day! That's in Denton so complety the opposite side of town to Heaton Park.

Dont know if you've booked your hotel yet OP but I would book somewhere half way to home, get far out of Manchester!

Doseofreality · 03/07/2025 17:54

We’ve booked parking in a nearby school for £60.
Heaton Park is huge so be prepared to walk!

You dont need to respond in this way to people correcting you

Its common sense that when there are going to be road closures, tube closures, no parking, 80k people or so the normal rules of what you can book, how you can book it, where you can access it from etc etc do not apply.

It is rather unhelpful, and I see it on a lot of threads unfortunately, to make breezy statements suggesting something as 'simple' when theres no thought gone into what the reality of that would be like. I see it all the time referring to insurances of varying types, health access or 'getting someone to do a letter for you', appointments, buying stuff or contacting this or that company.

A classic example is another thread running at the moment where OPs daughter literally cannot get to work without a car and her car has been recalled - cue tons of 'helpful' advice about buying a bike and cycling the route which isnt possible for her.

MotherOfGaia · 03/07/2025 21:16

If you want I could take her and save you a load of hassle 🤣😢 jealous! I have been before but don't remember enough to help out in this department. Just wanted to say, have a great time!!

Nico23 · 04/07/2025 07:04

Hi, I live in walking distance to the park and will be attending. I went to a gig there last month and the way they lay out the walking route makes it so much longer to get entry and exit. I wanted to park in the park as I'm pregnant but there is no official parking. There are no close by car parks and all the streets are permit only for the gigs and most roads will be shut. I would look at accommodation and the bus which takes you directly into the park. The tram wouldn't be ideal as the closest one shuts at 10pm and bowker Vale is a long walk with the way they make you exit. It's always worth contacting them to say you have a disabled daughter to see what they advise. I can walk to the park in less than 10 minutes but the entry point in now the opposite end of the park which is not walking distance. Could also look at the app where people rent out their drives but you need to check you entry point first. It's a bit of a nightmare really

Oasis. Heaton Park. What do I do?
gdclarke · 04/07/2025 07:09

You can get a car parking space if you've got accessible seating. You have to book it at least 5 days before the event and it's about £21.

My only bit of advice if you’re anywhere near the front is wear a waterproof coat with a hood. Apparently the throwing of bottles of piss is going to be unrivalled by any previous piss throwing at gigs 😬

Jamesblonde2 · 04/07/2025 07:09

When I was trying to get tickets (and failed) I accepted that due to the mental hotel costs, I was going to be either driving home from Edinburgh (I wanted a seat type of stadium) or getting a hotel on the borders. I’m from the NE too. If I was coming back from Manchester it’s only a 2.5 hours drive, or maybe look at a Premier Inn around the outskirts of Leeds, or somewhere well outside of Manchester, on the way home.

Don’t be so silly, and don’t be so naive to believe everything you ‘apparently’ hear.

Nobody has thrown bottles of piss at gigs/festivals since the 90s, (and even then o think only at possibly Reading festival which is known for being a bit rough) just because Oasis have reformed I don’t think we’re reverting to this happening.

softkitty79 · 04/07/2025 07:16

I would book the premier inn Bury(doesn't look fully booked) park on QPark next to that (loads of capacity) and the tram with direct trams to Heaton park is right over the road.
Live and work in Bury.sure someone else has already suggested as not read full thread.
Good luck

Download the JustPark app, you'll be able to park close to Heaton Park on somebody's drive or a local car park for a fee (some of them are really reasonable) x
