Why is everyone so angry at Labour?

From what I understand they tried to cut (essential) benefits and put the money somewhere else. And what happened was labour MPs got angry, threat of resulting poverty in the population etc. So labour backtracked.

My questions are

  1. they backtracked so doesnt that mean they get it?

B) weren't they trying to find money to fill a hole that must be filled?

C) How else could have they raised the money? High taxed- bad people get very annoyed NHS cant handle more cuts.

I'm guessing they thought that forcing people off benefits would stimulate the economy by forcing people 'back into work'.

Well, one of the things which has happened with PIP is over the years things have changed with various court cases

For example, planning and following journeys (mobility) some criteria were originally meant for people with e.g. blindness, or physical problems but this was challenged as to why it couldn't be to do with psychological distress also

Meaning many more with MH problems getting full mobility as well often as full daily living, but at the same time as PIP was brought in the getting around distances part was reduced, so people need to be able to walk less..

it's all turned into a bit of a mess, but needs looked at properly rather than just bringing in changes without looking at it all first.

You would only get low rate mobility for being distressed leaving the house you would have to prove that alongside proving you cant walk more then 20 meters to get high rate

alexalisten · 02/07/2025 21:28

But most people have multiple conditions i have about 27 it doesnt actually mean i would get pip for any of them alone

hmmm so you think the person who put this data together, most likely a data scientist, didnt factor that in? You should email the government and let them know. All this drama and the data isnt even correct

I think the country is in a very big mess and there isn't an easy answer to it.

I think that multinational corporations are sucking all the taxes out of the country and all we have left is globe trotting billionaires and poverty. The Labour government can't do a lot about that as they're only a national government.

I think it would be better to talk to us about the real problems. I don't think cutting disability payments is a great idea.

I agree. UK governments stopped talking to people like adults some time around the banking crash, when furious sound-bites took over the national psyche. The Tories then went on to make it blatantly clear they didn't give a shit about taking care of the country and would say whatever people wanted.

Unsurprisingly, that's left almost a whole generation with no reason to trust a government and little experience of being asked to think rationally about big issues. Labour needs to stop playing by the Conservatives' rules - they don't do it well, even if they feel they should - and start acting like the grown-ups in the room.

I do think Keir Starmer's naturally suited to this role. They're on the back foot because most of our national media are pro-Tory but, if their public relations people can't deal with it, they need a better and more suitable team.

You can get 12 points (enhanced) see below - without any points from the walking distance part

  1. Cannot undertake any journey because it would cause overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant. 10 points.
  2. Cannot follow the route of a familiar journey without another person, an assistance dog or an orientation aid. 12 points.

It is correct as its listed conditions on your form me and a previous poster have repeatedly been saying this to you but your not grasping it.

The government doesnt have enough money to give more support. The only solution is self agency.

And this is where pip comes in because I get pip i can pay for private dbt as I cant get it on the nhs.

Just beacuse you and another poster and saying it, it doesnt mean youre actually correct. Are you saying the data is wrong and an incorrect reflection of PIP claims categories?

I dont know how many times i can explain the same thing to you you write down all your conditions on the form. You dont get pip based on any condition you get it based on what you can and cant do. The government then comes along and sees them conditions on a form and puts them into the database.

I dont know how many times I can explain that this is not a summary of what people have put down in their forms.

There are numbers for the people in each category. Are you saying that they've counted people twice, thrice, or more if they have more than one condition? If so thats a concerning issue with the data.

Lioncub2020 · 02/07/2025 21:48

More than 50% of households take more out in benefits than they pay in tax. Those households are angry the government is trying to reduce the bill, the other households are angry that aren't achieving it.

EaglesSwim · 02/07/2025 21:48

Cuts to PIP will not get people into work, they’re not linked.

Of course it will. If the government gives you less you have incentive to earn more yourself.

Yes as most people claiming pip have multiple conditions. And the reason you get pip has absolutely nothing to do with your conditions

Your not suddenly not disabled because the government takes your money away it means all them things you spend your pip on the government will have to supply directly at double the cost to the tax payer.

Maybe we need to be looking more into housing benefit, child benefit, child element of universal credit, free school meals, healthy start vouchers since children are a choice and disability isnt

I think the question is ‘are all of the people claiming pip actually in need of this extra support’

And the key context there being the large increase in claimants.

Edited

I think there are multiple reasons for the increase the rise in state pension age, the failing nhs, lack of social care, people having children at a much older age, and we've just been through a pandemic. If they bring the state pension age down, fund better social care which will significantly improve the nhs and make it easier for people to have children younger then the numbers would drop
