Why is everyone so angry at Labour?

18thday · 02/07/2025 19:29

From what I understand they tried to cut (essential) benefits and put the money somewhere else. And what happened was labour MPs got angry, threat of resulting poverty in the population etc. So labour backtracked.

My questions are

  1. they backtracked so doesnt that mean they get it?

B) weren't they trying to find money to fill a hole that must be filled?

C) How else could have they raised the money? High taxed- bad people get very annoyed NHS cant handle more cuts.

I'm guessing they thought that forcing people off benefits would stimulate the economy by forcing people 'back into work'.

Nope. Its the posters money.

This sense of entitlement is why the country is screwed. Too many people constantly look for what they can take rather than what the can give. Unfortunately more and more the net givers are getting pissed off.

Do you think it's fair that people get tax payer funded PIP yet have enough money to go on holidays?

I haven't been on holiday in over 10 years as all my holidays from work are used on hospital appointments.

I read a post on Mumsnet yesterday - the poster received nearly £4K a month in benefits, disability, and mtnce. That’s £4K NET. Thats an insane amount £48k net P.A so before tax and NI around £70k….Thats where this country is going wrong. Average wage is £30k gross ish?????

And we wonder why people are crossing the channel in boats to get here. It's the land of milk and honey, unless you actually have to work for a living.

But we're reaching a tipping point where the money runs out.

Ahh right ok. So people who get PIP aren't allowed holidays either?

I assume we aren't allowed savings? Any luxuries at all?

So in answer to my question, yes, you think people receiving PIP should just stop their claim. Even though its not a means tested benefit.

Your acting jealous of seriously disabled individuals and its weird. You want a shortened life expectancy you want to spend half your life in hospital. You want to be drugged up to your eyeballs to the point your a walking zombie. Because il happily swap.

No. Im talking about benefits and its impact on national funds. You're just trying to shut down a discussion that you dont want other people to have.

Do you work?

Accept that it's a flawed system that is easily abused. Many people are currently abusing it. I dont know you, I'm not talking about you.

I'm saying its a huge system issue that cant be ignored because people shut down any conversation about it.

Unless you have been through the pip process yourself have no idea how difficult it is to get and the amount of medical evidence needed. People seem to think you can go to your GP say your a bit anxious get antidepressants and then claim pip it just doesnt work like that

I work. I work bloody hard, so does my DP.

I have no energy for anything else really as due to my issues I barely have enough energy left in me to brush my teeth. But yes, I am really entitled

Its 4% of the government's spending

Do you think people who work, pay taxes, cant afford a holiday should be subsiding the holidays of people on PIP? They dont actually need the PIP money- it's just extra. They have enough money to go on holidays.

Do you think the tax paying public owe you luxury?

It's many billions of tax-payer money. People shouldn't abuse a system because its only 4% of spending.

I work. I pay taxes. I also have a debilitating illness which will only get worse the older I get, which will, in the end kill me.

I'd swap my PIP money tomorrow if I could live a normal life

It means cuts can be made elsewhere rather then targeting the most vulnerable in society

Again same progressive condition I will die significantly younger then the average person will happily swap lives with others on this thread

If you can afford to save you don't need PIP - why take handouts when you don't need to. It will probably be the same reason that people give for why they don't give up council houses for those in need - because they would be stupid too. . Many of us think it should be means tested. Just because be people have a disability doesn't make them unable to support themselves.

Isn’t the point that two weeks ago Rachel’s Budget had her spending the most ever - trillions - on the NHS and public services, yet today she’s back to complaining about a five billion black hole. It just doesn’t make sense to anyone at this point. It’s exactly the outcome you would expect if you let a random woman - who fabricated her work history - become the Chancellor of a G7 country.
