What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

Going to concerts (really don’t get Oasis !)
Love Island
Gambling
Smoking/vaping
obsession with Tik Tok
Gaming until all hours

I think what’s happened to concerts is awful. The scramble to get a ticket and the cost of tickets nowadays. I can’t believe anyone pays £500-600 for one ticket to see oasis.

Oh, it turns out he’s actually called Tim Walker. See this morning’s Observer.

why?

if a spouse dies, should the other spouse not remarry if they wish? or is it just divorcees you don't understand making life long promises a second time?

Sorry, I phrased that badly. I meant I didn’t understand a posted listing second marriages as something they detest. I’m on my third 😳

Reality TV shows. It's cheap and lazy broadcasting. Take note ITV!
Turkish Delight - no it's really not
Dog Owners who haven't bothered to train their dogs

SchrodingersParrot · 06/07/2025 15:04

Horse racing. I just don't see the point of it.

Wishing doesn't make things happen though, so it doesn't matter what people wish!

Well it says something about people if they wish harm on others. Maybe if they murdered your granny but because you don't like what they've done with their front garden?

You don’t get ‘tongue in cheek’ do you? 🙄 I don’t actually want someone to be flooded, but I wouldn’t be sympathetic if someone who paved all around their house had water seep under their door because it couldn’t soak into the ground. They are selfishly damaging the environment and wildlife.

My dog has her basket in the kitchen. What’s so bad about having your dog in the kitchen?

Absolutely nothing. Pets are family not vermin.

I'm pretty much a "live and let live" kind of person. I'm in no position to judge anyone.

Saying that, there are some things that don't sit well with ME:

Brussels Sprouts.

Swearing and blaspheming.

Tapping noises, i.e. kids bouncing a football or kicking it on a wall; ESMR; clocks ticking; dripping water...

Bacterial Odour. Have people really never heard of natural crystal deodorant? After bathing/showering, applied to damp skin, it slays BO.

Shouting; fighting; violence; pornography and obscene websites that entrap kids; human trafficking; rape and sexual assault; cruelty to animals and humans; wars... (These kind of things keep happening, so some people must think they are acceptable and popular in their view of the world!)

Tattoos.

Body piercings.

Overdone fillers.

Stubble or beards.

Smoking or vaping.

Football and fans.

Bigotry.

Have a lovely day avoiding all of YOUR triggers! 👍🏻🥰🙏🏻

You said it would be karma if they were flooded, when I challenged that you said, "I wouldn’t wish it on anyone who had not deliberately paved front and back of their house." Pretty clear you were wishing it on them if they did pave the front and back of their houses. Then yesterday you didn't wish it on them at all and now it is tongue in cheek.

Of course it's tongue in cheek! Quite a lot of what we say is not literal - I'm dying laughing, his face fell, she flew off the handle, I wanted to curl up and die... Imagining that karma (not a real thing, by the way) would be a great thing sometimes doesn't mean that you really want it to happen.

Oh for heaven’s sake, just go meditate or something 🙄

Having read through all the replies, it seems some people have missed the fact that this is about POPULAR things you detest.
Anyway, here are mine:

  • Nose rings
  • Unnatural cosmetic work such as filler, tattooed eyebrows, eyelash extensions, fake nails, etc.
  • Reality TV
  • Slippers worn as shoes
  • Trad wives
  • Every second person being diagnosed with autism or ADHD

I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t doubt the love and pain behind your decision. But even the most heartfelt reasons don’t justify tattoos or make them any more attractive. There are other, more respectful ways to honour those we’ve lost.

I don’t have tattoos to make myself look more attractive or appealing. I have them for me because I like them. Each to their own.

you can hate them fair enough but don’t put someone down for having them for reasons that are very personal to them.

People who allow their animals to go in the kitchen.

This is a huge bugbear of mine! I'd be slow to eat at the house of anyone who did this!

Oh, and one (much more personal gripe) that occurred to me this morning: the anti-farming stance that a lot of people have!

I agree that farming isn't perfect (what is?), we take up a lot of land, sometimes we're quite noisy, our animals might escape or die (sheep usually make a point of doing it in full view of any passing public), and that there are a lot of misunderstandings about farming procedures, but... unless you're entirely self-sufficient in tea, coffee beans, cocoa beans, meat, fish, milk, honey, fruits, vegetables and so on, then you are relying on farmers around the world to feed you! If we gave up tomorrow, then people and animals would starve. Our livestock would breed willy-nilly and then probably become classed as "vermin" or, at least, dangerous.

I get lots of questions about it, and always take the time to chat about farming to the curious but uninitiated!

Dairy farmer's wife here, and I couldn't agree more! The general public are often pretty ill-informed about farming, and the current Labour Government are so off-base with their inheritance tax policy. We live in Ireland so are not affected by it (although I am a British citizen).
