What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

Reality TV especially 'celebrity' TV
Poxy scent sticks in oil
Big, fuck off, eyebrows
Eyelashes like bog brushes
Seasonal celebrations staring more than a month before their date, all for the chance for the idiotic and ignorant to worship at the feet of the Gods of hype, greed and overindulgence.
Phew, sorry got carried away.

The Salt Path book. Wanted to like this but … whiney people blaming everyone else for their problems and being rude to them. And who calls their partner Moth? Not tempted to see film.

Giving iPads/phones to little kids.

Overnight oats, just why?!

well, speaking just for myself:

I prefer my oats cold not hot. When I was a teenager I would pour milk on oats and eat them immediately, which was quite hard work but preferable in my eyes to heating them up. It was a red-letter day when I discovered that soaking (particularly in yoghurt or orange juice) changed the texture.

(and if you add cinnamon and raisins and squint very hard it tastes a bit like hot-cross buns)

merryhouse · 05/07/2025 20:29

incidentally (and not wanting to explode the thread again) - do you know the etymology of "Britain"?

I cannot stand the phrase 'picky bits'. There's a woman I keep coming across on Instagram who posts about having 'picky bits' and a 'picky tea' constantly and then posts pics of unappetising lumps of cheese and all sorts of sliced crap, topped off - always - with a handful of Ritz crackers. I really should block her because she pisses me off so much. Oh and her husband making chapatis and indian food like he's invented the wheel (they're both white British so think this is a massive flex).

Toblerone - It’s almost painful to eat and then your teeth are full of nougat.

Sam Smith - He just irritates me.

His name is Ray.

Just couldn’t imagine anyone saying ‘Let me introduce you to my husband Moth’. They would then say ‘Moss?’

couldnt have said it better myself
you cant go into a coffee bar or cafe and even many hotels now without a flaming big dog under tables never mind the bedrooms
For the record I wont stay in a hotel where dogs are allowed.

Its disgusting and unhygienic and their smell can be offensive

Absolutely. I adore dogs but hate the fact they are now everywhere in the UK. Currently on holiday in another country and dogs in restaurants, cafes, hotels, shops just aren't a thing. It's lovely.

Social media. Biggest time waster and phony postings make you think everyone lives the great life

There is nothing wrong with standards in all that we do and our modern obsession with placating everyone and lowering expectations for fear of reprisal is exactly why we see the proliferation of all that is undesirable. With no standards and discipline comes a lack of excellence. That's why you'll find countries who do emphasise standards will continue to excel and go far beyond the West.

Tattoos are ugly and we shouldn't be afraid to say so.

I don’t particularly like tattoos and wouldn’t get them but the idea that they are a ‘modern’ obsession is hilarious. They have been around since early humans existed!

Bonglington2019 · 05/07/2025 21:22

" you got this " cant fkin stand this phrase

Spottingtwerps · 05/07/2025 22:21

That society is obsessed with what sexuality people are. Who cares if you like men or women or both or neither.

I don't think it should be wished on anyone. How would you feel if I said I think it would be karma if people who wish harm on others are flooded? It wouldn't be ok would it.

Wishing doesn't make things happen though, so it doesn't matter what people wish!

I’m sorry for your loss and I don’t doubt the love and pain behind your decision. But even the most heartfelt reasons don’t justify tattoos or make them any more attractive. There are other, more respectful ways to honour those we’ve lost.

In your opinion
