What is something that is popular but is also something that you detest. It can be anything.

Picky bits - can’t fucking stand that phrase
Blake Lively - no, do not and have never got the hype. Rich nepo baby D list actress.
Love Island - trash
Dog/cats being pushed around in prams- if it has working legs, it can walk
Protein products - UPF advertised to the masses as “health” food to make a huge profit. Just eat whole foods that are high in protein.

You?

Bacon. Over-salty, stringy, fatty(not even in a good way) absolute shite to eat. I’m absolutely convinced Noone actually likes bacon and just eats it because there’s a “omg I could kill a bacon sarnie” stigma attached to it.

OMG yes!
I thought it was just me.
I don't eat meat at all now but I spent a large chunk of my life trying bacon because everyone told me how amazing it was.
Just tasted like salt to me.

Bacon I think has decreased in quality to the absolute mass produced shit we get now

now it just seems leathery & tasteless

What's with the bullying of CuthbertStrange on here? Why should she have to defend a dislike, and be abused and bullied for it? There are some real vipers on here atm, it must be school holidays...

If you read the full thread and see what was said to me by this poster, I would hope you would have a different opinion
Her words stung and that's putting it lightly
But with grieving for my son and my father and also terminally ill myself, I really didn't have the strength to get into it with her. I am very thankful though for everyone else who has had my back

It's not on a person to consider that the thing they detest someone else might have an emotional attachment to. You didn't have to scold her and get defensive. That's on you. Many, many, many, many people detest tattoos. I'm sure you're aware of that. So you didn't need to get defensive and wade in and scold her to attempt to 'change her mind'. You could have scrolled by. Instead, you instigated a pile-on. Which really makes your actions worse.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I never scolded her. I wrote a very honest, heartfelt message back which she thanked me for. I never once told her she was wrong or not entitled to her opinion. Have you actually read the full thread?

That ad for whole body deodorant. One bloke sticks his face in another bloke’s crotch and sniffs.
is that not sexual assault?

I hate that and too. There's at least one more I've seen for that deodorant and I honestly hate them all.

I don’t thinks it’s the fact that people have said they don’t like tattoos but @CuthbertStrange went quite far in her comments such a ‘low brow status symbol’ and ‘responsible for moral decline in the western world’ offensive and ott, I don’t even have tattoos and I can see that.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 02/07/2025 12:32

Oh, and one (much more personal gripe) that occurred to me this morning: the anti-farming stance that a lot of people have!

I agree that farming isn't perfect (what is?), we take up a lot of land, sometimes we're quite noisy, our animals might escape or die (sheep usually make a point of doing it in full view of any passing public), and that there are a lot of misunderstandings about farming procedures, but... unless you're entirely self-sufficient in tea, coffee beans, cocoa beans, meat, fish, milk, honey, fruits, vegetables and so on, then you are relying on farmers around the world to feed you! If we gave up tomorrow, then people and animals would starve. Our livestock would breed willy-nilly and then probably become classed as "vermin" or, at least, dangerous.

I get lots of questions about it, and always take the time to chat about farming to the curious but uninitiated!

I feel sorry for farmers, seems like a fucking hard job to me.

You are HARASSING ME!

STOP IT!!!!!!

will you two stop it please? It's childish and unfunny. Not sure why MN hasn't come along and deleted all those posts.

When someone starts like that on me on here I generally ignore to stop things escalating.

100%. A nonsensical and unhealthy ideology.

I never said people with tattoos have no morals. But the popularity of tattoos does signal a decline in civil society. We’ve moved away from tradition, restraint, and a sense of what’s appropriate. That’s the bigger issue I’m pointing to. Aside of course from the mere aesthetics as yes, they’re an eyesore.

Who gets to decide what’s appropriate?

ImaniMumsnet · 02/07/2025 14:52

Hello,

we've had a few reports of a bit of derailing on the thread from posters who seem to have had a disagreement. This is now ruining the thread for everyone else - please can we ask that we put a pin it here to prevent the thread being derailed further. Please do get in touch with us if you have something you'd like us to look into.

Thanks all!

This is a post about things we detest that are popular. No one should be bullying a poster because of their contribution. It's gone way beyond disagreeing now, this is just bullying.

I agree.

Block paved drives and front gardens. My neighbour thinks I'm lowering the tone of the neighbourhood with hedges, grass & roses. No dear, your horrible ecological weed blighted disaster looks shyte, I prefer the birds & the bees.

So you're as judgemental as she is.

I can't understand what they were thinking of. How many men would find that appealing.

DryDay · 02/07/2025 17:02

Christmas music and items in shops from the end of August. It just destroys all the magic - you’re sick of it all way before the actual event.

Taking loads of influence and inspiration from ‘Instagrammers’. Dull, dull, dull. It’s all just so basic and unimaginative.

Having music on, all the time, as a default setting. I can’t concentrate on anything - reading, conversation etc - if there’s music playing.

Fast food. Yuck. Ultra processed, unhealthy rubbish.

Alcohol. Nasty, expensive, unhealthy - cause of SO many problems (health, finances, relationships etc). Pissed people are weird, a bit scary and tedious.

Topsy44 · 02/07/2025 17:02

Formula 1
Olives

scotchbonnetface · 02/07/2025 17:07

Alcohol
40 hour work week
Long haul holidays
BBQs
Hiking
Hen do’s

You probably think I sound like a right miserable cow from that list…..you’re right, I am.
