1,000 new PIP claims per day?

1000 replies

flashbac · 30/06/2025 10:21

Is this true? (From someone who is naturally cynical of government info.)

If it is, is there something else behind the statistic? Is it because people have to reapply or something like that?

This is from the government website:

"Monthly PIP awards have more than doubled since the pandemic, rising from 13,000 to 34,000 - a rate of around 1,000 new claims per day, or the population of Leicester every year."

I find the statistic unbelievable.

I think this is one of the articles @Viviennemary is referring to.( the telegraph is behind a paywall so can’t see it )

If this is the case then presumably there’s either a very good reason for it ( I haven’t found one ) or the system is completely broken.

The Telegraph article was clever with words. Said claimants "with conditions such as acne". Not "were given PIP for acne".~

Whatever source this is, has misrepresented the findings in their first line.

Someone on here (can't remember the thread) says it's counted if you list it even though it may not be your main condition. Asthma is listed as one of mine even though it rarely causes problems. I certainly wouldn't get pip if I just had asthma

That could very well explain it then.
People have to put down everything but not everything is relevant.

Back to hype then it seems

I suspect that if people with acne and writers cramp are getting PIP it's because it's just listed amongst multiple conditions
My son has very complex needs and gets HRC,HRM,one of his conditions is constipation,I wouldn't dream of applying for DL A for constipation alone
But I had to list it on the application, form I can see how the media might spin it as a person with constipation getting the highest rates at DLA.

and this is how they whip up a frenzy.
Do they not think just occasionally we’d ( the public) like reporting without the hype.
Most of us can cope with processing the truth

Try again. People on UC get the WFP.

Try again - UC is not a disability benefit. It has a premium for those people with long term health conditions and disability (those not being the same thing of course). Lots of people on UC do not get that premium and still qualified for the WFA. But UC is not a disability benefit. The only benefit for disability is PIP. PIP was not a qualifying benefit for WFA.

Intelligent people would like that. But some people just love to be angry I think.

I think the notion that the shortcomings of your own life are someone else's fault is very easily swallowed...and sells papers!

Would you say that this government, in attempting to cut spending has alienated the public against the disabled?

There is a mother languishing in jail for putting on social media - wrongly of course - that someone should set fire to the hotels (mush the same as we might say '.. should be shot if they do that...' sort of thing) which led to almost three years in jail, yet the PM and his government have done the same thing to disabled people.

For the sake of the occasional applicant who slips through, we are now abused by the public.

(a) The PM and his government have not suggested violence against the disabled or burning the disabled where they live.

(b) 72% of people arriving in small boats have accepted asylum claims, yet not only asylum seekers and refugees but also people who were born here are abused by the public as a result of the kind of racist rants seen posted on this thread and elsewhere - some of them by you. Is it right that they should be abused for the sake of "the occasional applicant who slips through", to use your own turn of phrase?

Just read article in Telegraph people are getting disability payments for acne and writers cramp. I despair. Is this April fools day. Beyond madness.

No you didn't.

The article quite cleverly implies that, but says that people with acne get it. It's outright shitstirring on behalf of the newspapers.

My DD gets PIP with asthma and GERD. However she gets it for narcolepsy. Her asthma and GERD will be listed in stats as she is obliged to mention every condition she has. At one point her heavy periods that she had meds for will have been included in a stats.

So someone with acne gets PIP. Even the Telegraph doesn't say for acne.

This kind of obvious shit stirring is something that intelligent people should be able to see and there should be outrage at the blatant shit stirring and bordering hate speech from some of the media

Tell me you know NOTHING about PIP without telling me.

Also you are exactly the outraged middle England type these papers rely on as you are incapable of reading between the lines and understanding things.

Must be frustrating being you.

@deadpantrashcan No they are not - look at fightback there was recently a status posted about putting only your worse day on the forms. Many charities advise against it.

I work as a PIP assessor. When I call clients, I am advised to ask them about their worst days.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I bet you also have to explore how many days are worst days though so you can consider whether they meet the descriptor the majority of the time.

My assessors have all been absolutely lovely. Ive never had a bad experience during an assessment. They have always asked about my worst days. How often I have them, what im able to do on my best days etc.

The people I've spoken to are not robots and they're certainly not thick. I can imagine they can tell when they are speaking to people talking truth and lived experience and the ones trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

I agree that the government (and the media) are attempting to alienate the public against the disabled. It's a shame that so many people fall for it so easily.

KitTea3 · 02/07/2025 20:30

Didn't quote for some reason
Red: Fightback

They really don't advise that at all, in fact they very much advise against doing that as it wouldn't be representative of an average time and would be fraud if not worst case scenario all the time.

Granted yes you do pay for their VIP services but that's a)no guarantee you'll be awarded and b)when it is difficult to claim it doesn't hurt to have welfare advisors and layers to advise you.

It’s not fraud if someone says “please describe your worst day” and the person literally describes their worst day!

Jesus Christ!!!!!

They AREN’T saying it is how they feel every day!!!

Yes. And, with that, we are able to come to a holistically reasonable assumption based on the evidence provided by the applicant 👍

Well according to some I shouldn't even be getting it for RA, especially if I (gasps) work! So I may as well add fraud on my list of why I'm and awful human

Not half as frustrating as watching this disastrous government.

I would agree with this.
Governments are pitting people against each other.
Whether it’s the elderly or disabled they seem to be doing a good job of it too.

They should be careful how they are whipping up hate for certain sections of society.
They need to do their job and get the country on its feet again without the hyped up speeches.
However I think the main issue is our News, journalists and definitely Social media!

It gives them a good excuse for raising taxes in the autumn.

I can predict Ms Reeves - if she is still there - announcing that as she was stopped raising money from reducing benefits to the disabled, the only thing she can do is raise money in other ways, namely by taxation.

Anyone with a brain cell can write the script.

I'm not debating their age, I'm debating it's relevance to their asylum status.

If you cannot see that, I am sorry for you and any explanation would be wasted.
