1,000 new PIP claims per day?

1000 replies

flashbac · 30/06/2025 10:21

Is this true? (From someone who is naturally cynical of government info.)

If it is, is there something else behind the statistic? Is it because people have to reapply or something like that?

This is from the government website:

"Monthly PIP awards have more than doubled since the pandemic, rising from 13,000 to 34,000 - a rate of around 1,000 new claims per day, or the population of Leicester every year."

I find the statistic unbelievable.

Scince the pandemic.. more people have become very disabled due to covid and/ or the vaccines..
My daughter included.. she's now in a wheelchair.. she sees a physio every week and occupational health carer. every week.
She has a cardiology specialist.. a rheumatology specialist.. a orthopaedic specialist.

A neurologist... a urologist and a gynaecologist..

A mental health worker.
A carer ...
She was awarded Full PIP last November.

Do you mean the severely disabled should be ripped from their loving families ti ve placed in some kind of institution?

No, their families would look after them. If they didn't have a supportive family they would be looked after by the government.

Would their families be paid to look after them?

What about the additional costs of care? The family would just need to pay out of pocket?

Either that or you are being deliberately provocative.

And those who need expensive equipment that the NHS doesn't supply?

With what if their PIP is removed ,

What money? The family wont be able to work if they are carers for their disabled relative.

If someone needs expensive equipment just to function, I would say they sit at the severe end of the disability spectrum. They should be looked after.

And if they can't afford that you are proposing to rip them apart from their loving families than
Would you also remove DLA as well from children?

AcrylicPink · 30/06/2025 17:00

WideawakeinSanDiego · 30/06/2025 16:48

I would assume they would get UC like others who are not working,

I am saying the most deserving should be looked after.

Who is defining who is deserving though? Because according to the endless threads on MN about autism it’s basically fake and down to crap parenting.

And I bet she’d give anything not to be in the horrible position of having to be unwell and having to claim it 💐

I was in town today. A small town. I saw four people using wheelchairs, a man getting very agitated because pigeons were coming within 10m of his table and displaying other behaviour that made it obvious he was not fit for work, two people who were walking along muttering to themselves incomprehensibly and looked generally quite unwell, several people using walkers, frames, etc. All just by walking through a precinct.

AcrylicPink · 30/06/2025 17:03

@MNHQ can you just let us block posters? I’m at risk of having a comment deleted again!

skyeisthelimit · 30/06/2025 17:04

PIP is very hard to get and keep. DD applied in December, it took well over a month for the form to arrive. She had her telephone assessment 2 weeks ago and was told she would get a reply within 8 weeks. so 6 months so far, could be August before get the Yes/No, nothing received so far but it will be backdated to December if she does qualify for it.

My friends DP was on PIP. His medical conditions have got worse not better, and they removed PIP because when it was reassessed recently, he said that he could sometimes walk the dog. - which he can on some days when he feels well enough, and it is good for his mental health to get out of the house. They have had to appeal.

The assessor asked DD if she could feed the cat... perhaps she will get turned down now as she said yes if she remembers.. hence it being my job 98% of the time

WideawakeinSanDiego · 30/06/2025 17:05

The severely disabled need assistance.

There is a huge difference between someone with mild depression and someone with extreme learning difficulties.

Mild depression might need medication, or a break or change of routine but it doesn't need money.

JohnTheRevelator · 30/06/2025 17:05

Wouldn't surprise me if they've manipulated the figures somehow. Wasn't there so e scandal a few months ago about them saying that the welfare bill had increased by some ridiculous amount over the last few years? I can't remember the exact figure but they were saying something like it had increased by 400% when in reality it was nothing like that, more like 40%. But they didn't announce any correction to it. They just want the public to believe the worst.

No one gets PIP for mild depression.

Ohhh I see what’s happening here. You’re believing the propaganda that pip is largely going to those with mild depression or anxiety.

No one with mild depression gets pip, no one.
Stop believing what you read in the daily mail.

Yeah, I bet a lot of these twits posting shit about disabled people are the "does s/he take sugar" type. Happens to my DH even now.

I bet one of us gets deleted, yet MNHQ are happy to allow smearing of disabled people to stand, even suggestions that their cars should be marked out are OK for MNHQ.

Tell me about it. I have worked full-time (and paid taxes) for 46 years, never once been unemployed. Worked part-time from the age of 15. I hold two Masters degrees and a PhD. My best friend is a Director of People's Servies for an English local authority. And when we go out she gets very pissed off when I ask a question and people address her with the answer.

It's "educashunul" don't you know. Otherwise known as it's profitable for MN. Never mind the hatred, never mind the vitriol, never mind the offensive twats, feel the clicks and the money just keeps rolling in.

Nobody is saying it does again it goes off how the condition impacts a person not the condition itself.
